Tag Farnborough Airport Ltd. has submitted a planning application for an increase in aviation business move-ments from 28,000 to 50,000 per annum. Cut and Blow

A new television sitcom is being filmed right here in Brookwood.

A Brookwood born production company has launched its new project on home soil in Brookwood. Lubbock and Peploe produc-tions are steaming ahead in to their new television sitcom – ‘Cut and Blow’. Headed by actor and singer Martin Dickinson who set up the company to produce the work of Jo Peploe and Nathan Lubbock-Smith. Cut and blow is steaming into production with confirmation that the location to be used for filming is going to be here in our quiet village of Brookwood. When I spoke to Martin he said ‘That’s correct we are going to pick up a film set and drop it in to a quiet village in the centre of one of England’s most picturesque counties, Surrey. Brookwood Crime Update

Brookwood Canal Update

I hope those of you who either visited the boat rally at Brookwood Country Park or saw the 30 plus boats making their way through Brookwood to ascend the Deepcut flight of locks enjoyed seeing them. Those of us who took part thoroughly enjoyed it even though there were a few challenges to overcome in Deepcut. Deepcut is now closed mainly due to low water supplies in the Hampshire area and because some issues were uncovered with the Deepcut flight. The Canal Society is planning for another rally in May 2010.

Those of you who have walked the towpath recently will have noticed that Sustrans have rebuilt it between Brookwood Bridge (A322) and Pirbright Bridge at the bottom of Deepcut. The finish that is on the path at the moment (20-Jun-09) is, as I understand it, not the final finish - there will be a very fine shingle covering (as it is now in Woking). There have been a couple of 'chicanes' added mainly to get around some of the tress but that will also hopefully slow some of the cyclists down a little. If you have concerns over the speed of any cy-clists please do call the Basingstoke Canal Authority on 01252 370073 - they are the only ones who can take any action.

If you have any other questions about the canal please do let me know - 01483 473630.

Crime can’t crack itself. See something suspicious? Ring 0845 125 2222 & Report it.

The major incidents this month continue to be the noise and mess nuisance on Sheets Heath recreational ground. The light nights and cheap drink have fuelled the problem of youths gath-ering and underage drinking. Our local PCSO’s and bobbies are doing their best but they cannot pos-sibly be there 24/7 and we have to rely on the greater Surrey police for incident response - which has often been very slow to non existent in coming. WBC staff are also doing their best to keep on top of the rubbish clearing with Serco and often Sheets Heath residents feel obliged to collect the detritus in black bags to maintain the area fit for general use. This issue actually requires a greater coordinated response and wider thinking than it is currently being given and will undoubtedly attract much heated attention at the next Police Panel Meeting in early July.

CID Officers are urging a cyclist using the Brookwood Canal towpath to come orward as he or she may have useful information to help with an investigation. The cyclist was travelling along the path near to the bridge and the petrol station at Connaught Road’s junction with Brookwood Lye Road in Woking on Sunday, 7 June some time between 3pm and 5pm. Detectives believe the person they would like to speak to would have seen a teen-age girl and a young Asian male. DS Rob Bryant, officer in charge said: "If you are that cyclist we are keen to talk with you as there are likely to be details you can provide which can help us with our enquiry. If you are this individual or know who it may be please call Surrey Police quoting reference SH/09/3025."

Don’t forget the Police Panel Meeting at Brookwood Primary School - Tuesday 14th July - & have your say.

Brookwood Community Update

Mike, I took a friend's dog for a walk yesterday - from my home in Sheets Heath Lane to the Recreation ground. I was appalled at the amount of litter (mainly bottles - glass and plastic and tins) thrown into the surrounding land. I suspect that this may be associated with the huge number of teenagers gathering on the Rec at weekends recently. There's not much point in complaining about what I saw unless I am prepared to do something about it so my offer is to give up a Saturday morning to try and clean things up. I'd need help in terms of people and bags and a way to get rid of the rubbish - so I am prepared to give up a Saturday morning - is anyone else in the village - including the Sheets Heath residents. Kind Regards. Kathryn.

I agree Kathryn. I know that Councillor Preshaw has organised group clean ups in Brookwood Park. I am sure that be-tween us we can organise a pick up and get rid of the mess. Thanks for suggesting it. Ed.

Sea Cadets Set Sail Sean Christie, from Woking Sea Cadets, has just returned from a trip of a life time on board the Sea Cadet Training Ship, TS Royalist. A ‘Square Rigger’ sailing ship, commonly referred to as a ‘Tall Ship’, is manned by Sea Cadets and set sail from Gosport bound for Brixham, South Devon. The start of the voyage was delayed slightly when the ship ran aground briefly on a ‘misplaced’ sand bank. This was then followed by rough seas with many of the crew becoming very sea sick. Sailing every day meant the cadets had to climb the masts and clamber out along the sails. This took a great amount of courage and effort as the sails were very heavy. On route, the voyage took TS Royalist to Weymouth and then onto Dartmouth where the crew were able to sample some shore leave. Overnight anchorage meant the cadets had to ‘man the watch’ to secure the ship, which meant hours on deck in the cold night, as would be expected in normal Naval duties. On the last day of sailing, with all the sails fully out, TS Royalist sailed round to Brixham. During the passage, a fender 'accidentally' fell over board and had to be re-trieved, ‘man over board’ drill with the sails up, which proved very challenging! It appeared that the fender liked the water so much, it suddenly fell overboard again, much to the amusement of the cadets and staff. If you are aged between 10 and 18, and would like an op-portunity to seek an experience like this then join Woking Sea Cadets at their headquarters in Westfield Avenue, Woking. Parade times are Monday and Thursday nights, 7pm to 9pm. Further details can be found on the web site www.units.ms-sc.org/woking

County News from your elected representative – Elizabeth Compton I was delighted to have been re-elected to Surrey County Council as the Member for St Johns and Brookwood. My thanks to all those who voted for me. My priorities for Brookwood are: • Supporting Brookwood as a thriving village community with its own personality by opposing insensitive redevel-

opment • Battling proposals for increased air traffic movements from Farnborough airport which would aggravate the pre-

sent overflying • Securing better and safer roads for Brookwood. Before the election, I sent in Connaught Road as one of the

three roads in the Division most needing resurfacing • Supporting the excellent Brookwood Assistance to Neighbours scheme • Promoting the Basingstoke Canal as an amenity for local walkers, cyclists and boaters If you have any issues that you would like me to pursue for you then contact me on 01483 762167 or E-mail: [email protected]

BROOKWOOD SCHOOL SUMMER FAIR – 6th JUNE 2009

Although the weather could have been kinder, the rain certainly didn’t stop the crowds flocking to Brookwood School Fair. The fair which was opened by the schools very own crocodile and pirates, was the culmination of the weeks activities in school around the theme of books. Organised by the Friends of Brookwood School, the day included displays from the Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs, African dancing by children from the school, a tug o war competition and displays by Cadence Band. Some children took part in a fancy dress competition, whilst others enjoyed the variety of stalls run by local groups, teachers, parents and indeed the children. Bisley Almac Band once again provided musical entertainment for the crowds. Brook-wood Rainbows were the proud winners of the Best Dressed Stall competi-tion. ‘It was just wonderful to see so many people from the local community and the school working together as a team, to provide funds for stage light-ing for the school, raising just over £2200.00 – it was a fantastic time en-joyed by all,’ said Judith Hookins, Chair of the PTA.
