Message from Father Pergjini:

The famous Bri sh convert, Blessed John Henry Newman, said: “that what gives a river spirit and energy is precisely the firmness of its banks. If one were to knock down those banks, the river would promptly spread out into a lazy lake, serene perhaps, but lacking in direc on.” What a powerful statement to read and think that our moral and spiritual lives are something like a river. If we remove the commandments, precepts of our Catholic Church, laws, and teachings it would be like removing the banks of a river. There would never be a direc on toward the Truth and Love of Christ that leads toward salva on of our souls if we would remove the banks of the river. We are reminded that one of the five precepts of our Catholic Church is to go to confession at least once a year. Monday of the Holy Week, March 26th, from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m., every Catholic Church in our archdiocese of New York, Brooklyn and Rockville center will be available to hear confessions. During the me of confession, our parish will expose on the Altar the Blessed Sacrament. It is for us as Catholics the real presence of Christ, His body, blood, soul and divinity. In that presence the faithful can make a good examina on of conscience. It is through that me of silence before Him to think of our past when we have ignored God's commandments, precepts, the laws, teachings, and demands of our Catholic Church. Only a er a good examina on of our conscience we can humbly kneel and experience the power of the sacrament of confession. It is the power of the risen Christ given by Him to our Catholic Church to be absolved from our sins. What an amazing experience to be embraced by the grace of the sacrament of confession so we can properly receive Holy Communion. It is only this way, and no other way, that we can stand in the Truth which is the Eternal truth of our salva on. Amen.

1. Examine your conscience. 2. Be sincerely sorry for your sins. 3. Confess your sins to a priest. 4. Resolve to amend your life. 5. After your confession, do the penance the priest assigns.

“Bless me, Father, in this confession. It has been - (state the length of time) – since my last confession. These are

my sins.” Then tell your mortal sins and the number of times committed. If you

have no mortal sin to confess, then confess the venial sins you have committed since your last

confession. When you have finished telling your sins, you should say: “For these and all the sins of my past, I am truly sorry.” The priest now gives the necessary advice, assigns your penance and asks you to say the Act of Contrition. Then wait and listen as the priest gives the absolution. Then say “Thank you, Father”, then leave the confessional and then

perform the penance assigned by the priest.

“O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all My love.
