Weidmann KnoW-hoWexcellence in quality and services

“made byWeidmann” means topquality – there is no compromise onthat. Weidmann meets all international standards. Weidmannensures superior quality control alongthe entire supply chain. Weidmann’srange of electrical insulating papersis your assurance for consistent, impeccable quality. The quality systemfollowing iSO 9001:2000/en 29001and a manufacturing process with

decisive knowhow, continuouslyoptimized over decades, guaranteethe high quality of the products andservices whichWeidmann is morethan happy to offer you at any time.Working with this highvalue insulation material, you benefit from theentire savings potential of all optimizations without the risk involved inproducts that have not been testedto the highest standards.

Weidmann has been involved fordecades in the design and optimization of insulation papers. Specializingin insulation paper, Weidmannoffers a broad spectrum of cellulosebased paper, ranging from flatuntreated paper to creped, coated, calendered, thermally upgraded orlaminated material structures. inaddition, Weidmann slits, cuffsand creases papers on demand.

presspapermulti-ply electrical insulatingpresspapers

Weidmann manufactures severalgrades of presspaper for a variety ofinsulating applications. all are manufactured to international standards ona multivat cylinder machine. Thismethod of construction builds up acontinuous web of processed fibersin homogeneous layers to create apinholefree structure.

Grade K Presspaper is made of 100%sulphate wood pulp. it is a highstrength paper with excellent electrical properties. it is ideal for a broadrange of applications. it can be dyedto various colors achievable with anunbleached furnish. dyeing has noeffect on quality.

Grade 3 Presspaper is made froma mixture of sulphate wood pulp andcotton. it is a flexible paper thatconforms easily to uneven surfaces. Favored by coil winders, ithas excellent edge folding (cuffing)properties. Weidmann developedthis paper jointly with transformermanufacturers to meet their need forinsulation with an optimum combination of electrical and mechanicalstrength, low permittivity, and maximum oil absorption. The furnish forthis paper is composed to minimizedrying times and maximize agingproperties.

Grade 4 Presspaper is made of100% cotton. it combines electricalstrength, mechanical toughness, and flexibility for superior performance under the most arduousservice conditions. This grade is oneofWeidmann’s most successfulpresspapers. it has been in continuous production for many decades, and reflects a history of continuousimprovement made possible bycarefully selected raw materialsand developments in processingtechniques.

grade K t/u presspaperthermally upgraded paper

Grade K Thermally Upgraded Presspaper is made of sulphate wood pulpand is used mainly as a layer insulating paper in low voltage and highvoltage windings of oilimmerseddistribution transformers. The lifetime of the transformers is directlyrelated to the condition of insulationpaper of the winding. Thermallyupgraded paper is a cellulosebasedpaper that has been chemicallymodified to reduce the rate at whichthe paper decomposes.

The purpose of thermally upgrading insulation paper is to neutralizeacids caused by thermal degradationof the cellulose over the lifetime ofthe transformer. Thermally upgradedpaper retains a much higher tensileand bursting strength than untreatedpapers when exposed to elevatedtemperatures.

diamond dotted presspaperelectrical insulating presspaperswith B-stage resin dots

diamond dotted Presspaper improves the mechanical strength ofoilimmersed transformer windingswithout reducing partial dischargelevels. Weidmann manufacturesthis paper by applying discrete dotsof Bstage resin on both sides in adiamond pattern. The size and shapeof the dots are carefully chosen toavoid interfering with vacuum dryingand oil impregnation.

during Bstage, the resin dots aredry and tack free, permitting storage and handling similar to normalpresspaper. When the winding isheated for drying purposes, theadhesive dots melt and cure, thuscreating permanent bonding sitesunaffected by further heating cyclesthat may occur in service. The bonding

strength is adequate to supporteffective gluing in unsupported coildesign.

The pinholefree multiply paperallows single layer application inLV foil windings. Temperature risetime in the drying oven is important, particularly during the final transitionto the temperature at which the resinstarts to melt. To obtain maximumbond strength, this transition shouldbe completed as swiftly as possible. The drying requirements of the transformer normally provide for adequatecuring of the resin. nevertheless,Weidmann recommends carefulmonitoring of oven performance.

crepe paperhigh elongation insulating papers

Crepe Papers come in a variety ofqualities developed to meet therequirements of the transformerindustry. The extensibility of CrepePaper facilitates wrapping irregularcontours, which can be useful forjoining and forming tapping leads. The low dissipation factor makes itespecially suitable for high voltagebushings and instrument transformers. Other typical applications includewire wrapping, and shielded ringsplaced within end sections of powertransformer windings.

Weidmann manufacturers CrepePapers from highquality electricalgrade kraft base papers (100% sulphate wood pulp) in reel widths up to2500 mm.The elasticity and pliabilityof the base paper combined withcontrolled creping process parameters determine the properties of thefinal product. Careful final inspection ensures compliance with themost demanding requirements.

aluminium Crepe Paper providesefficient shielding against electrostatic fields. The eddy currentformation in the aluminium causedby magnetic fields is moderate. Typical applications include transformercoils, cables, bushings, electroniccomponents, and other electricaldevices.

To manufacture this paper,Weidmann laminates electricalkraft paper on aluminium foil, usinga nonconductive adhesive that isinsoluble in water and hot oil. itshigh elongation and flexibility allowsaluminium Crepe Paper to wrapsnugly and precisely around anysize or shape.

storage recommendation

Cellulosebased insulation exhibitshygroscopic properties. Therefore, itshould be kept dry in the storeroom. On receipt of a consignment of material, the packing must be examinedto ascertain that it is undamaged andthe moisture proof wrapping is intact.if the wrappers are satisfactory, it ispreferable to leave the material in itsoriginal packing until near the timefor use.

if the packaging material showsany sign of damage, it is advisableto check that the contents are dryand then repair the wrappers beforeplacing the insulation in the storagearea. insulation must never be storeddirectly on a concrete floor but mustalways be kept on wooden palletsor shelves.

do not store any insulation exposedto direct sunlight, near radiators oropen windows and doors or beneathoverhead heaters.

Before use it is also recommendedthat crates and cases should beunpacked and the material allowedto adjust to the prevailing relativehumidity of the storeroom/workshop.This does not mean that rolls andsheets etc. can be left uncovered. They must always be kept cleanand protected from airborne dustand droplets of moisture that maycondense on, and fall from, overheadstructures.
