The Lowry Outlet Mall contains outlet stores of well-known high-
street businesses, including Cadbury’s, Marks & Spencer and Gap.
The mall contains coffee shops and convenience food chains, and a
multi-screen cinema operated by Vue. Outside the mall, a bar and
several restaurants overlook the Lowry plaza.
The Imperial War Museum is located nearby and hosts an
extensive collection of historical artifacts. There is MediaCityUK, an
international hub for technology, innovation and creativity, situated
in Salford Quays. If sport is your thing, Manchester United Football
Club is based in the Old Trafford section of Salford Quays, boasting
the largest club football stadium in the United Kingdom.

INVESTING IN SALFORD
Salford offers a rich and diverse range of parks and open spaces with over 60% of the city being
made up of green spaces. There are over 30 parks and recreational grounds, two country parks
and five local nature reserves all in the area.
Salford Quays came into existence in 1983 and was previously the site of Manchester Docks. It is one
of the first and largest urban regeneration projects in the United Kingdom following the closure of
the dockyards in 1982.
Significant investment, restructuring and regeneration took place between 1986 and 1990. Roads and
bridges were built including a promenade along the waterfront. This area of Manchester saw public
funding and private investment total around £280 million by the early 1990s.
More recently, Salford Quays has seen many enterprises investing in the area, including The Peel
Group who own MediaCityUK, which houses the BBC. In 2010, the high-rise blocks of The Heart and
NumberOne (both 22 storeys) were added to the skyline. In November 2017, the first of 4, 26 storey
apartment blocks completed adding another block to the skyline, the tallest building on the Quays.
Salford Quays has also seen significant investment in sport and leisure facilities being used as the
venue for the first International Triathlon Union World Cup event. It also hosts the Great Manchester
Swim.
In 2012 the Salford Quays were rejuvenated for the London Olympic Games, in which they were used
for swimming and diving meaning that six gold medallists have swum at the Quays.
Construction on the Metrolink Trafford Park line commenced with minor work in late 2016. The
line is scheduled for completion in 2020. Trafford Park is the biggest employment area in Greater
Manchester, with over 1,300 businesses employing more than 35,000 people and will now be
accessible from Salford Quays via this route.
Salford is home to Salford University, one of the four universities in Manchester, attracting many
students each year.
Investment in the arts, industry, sport and leisure activities, and with Manchester City Centre and
The Peak District and Lake District on the doorstep make Salford an attractive area for continued

Salford itself is integral to the Greater Manchester economy, which is the economic
powerhouse of the north-west of England. Its economy is growing at above the UK’s

Located in Greater Manchester, Salford has excellent transport links to
Manchester city centre and the rest of the country.
Getting to and from Salford by rail, road or air is easy.
Manchester Airport, the third busiest in the UK, is only 20 minutes by road
from Salford. It handles 20 million passengers a year. This makes Salford an

Salford Central and Salford Crescent are the two main rail stations that
serve the city. There are a further seven smaller stations on three main lines,
these offer services to Wigan, Liverpool and beyond. A short journey to

There is easy access of the A5603 and M602 motorway – a major route in

Housing prices in Salford are competitive, at just over 20% lower
than the average for the Greater Manchester area, and an incredible
44% lower than the UK average. All of this bodes well for buy-to-
let property investors given that Salford is just a short commute to
Manchester city centre. There is no doubt that property yields here

CURRENTREGENERATION
There are several multi-million-pound projects currently underway in
Salford contributing to securing a future for generations to come.
In recent years, significant investment has been ploughed into
new infrastructure and public realm, new homes, education and
health facilities, new businesses and shops. These include major
developments, city parks and green spaces.
Significant focus has been placed on connecting Manchester city and
its residents to the growing opportunities in and around Salford in
