*Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Abraham Maslow moved away from the view that people are controlled by the
subconscious or by the environment . He believed individuals are controlled by their
values and the choices they make. He devised a model of true human needs showing that a
well-adjusted person satisfies needs on level 1 before the other needs on level 2, etc. before the last level can be fulfilled and people can
reach their fullest potential.
Physiological needs:
• Food, shelter, sexual satisfaction, needs for basic survival.
Safety needs:
• The need to feel safe within your environment. Also refers to emotional and physical safety.
Social Needs:
• The need for love, friendship and belonging
Esteem needs:
• The need for self-respect, status and recognition from others.
Self-actualization:
• The point of reaching one’s full potential.
