History

British Study Centres was founded in the 1930's by Joseph Cleaver, grandfather of ourcurrent Chairman and Chief Executive, Simon Cleaver. To this day, the Company remainsa resolutely 'family' firm, privately owned and managed by Simon and his family.In the early days the Company concentrated on correspondence courses and as such wasa precursor to the Open University which grew up in the 1960's. The Company grewquickly, establishing offices and examination centres across the entire (then)British Empire and beyond and in the process becoming the UK's largest group ofcorrespondence colleges.

Our Chosen Charity:The Hotcourses FoundationHelping HIV + Orphans in AfricaThe Hotcourses Foundation was set up in 2004 to help fund the education of HIV+ childrenin the developing world whose access to education is limited or non-existent.British Study Centres School of English and its parent organisation, British Study Centres,try to do what they can to help by making annual donations to the Foundation.Our objective is to make a measurable, tangible difference to the lives of children in someof the poorest parts of the world. Initially we have focused on AIDS-orphans in Kenya,providing money to fund their education and provide school uniforms and related resources.The Hotcourses Foundation is particularly proud of the primary school it built in Kitui,eastern Kenya, which came top in recent assessments of schools in the area.We are now building our second school in the region.

How Does It Work? Live Online Lessons myBSC

Our online courses consist of two main components – live lessons during which you interact with your teacher and fellow students, and guided self-study delivered via our e-learning platform. In addition, you can book private lessons to focus on your personal learning needs. At the end of the course you will receive a BSC certificate and progress report.

Lessons are delivered via a powerful video conferencing platform Adobe® Connect™. All you need is a compatible computer or mobile device with Internet connection. You don't have to download any software – we will just send you a link which takes you directly to the online classroom. Lessons are held every week at a specified time with a maximum of 4 or 8 students in each class.

In addition to the live lessons with our teachers, you will receive access to myBSC, our learning platform with a wide range of additional study material. Here you will be able to continue studying at your own speed in your free time. Your teacher will also set homework through the system and will be able to monitor your progress.

Comfort & Convenience Authentic Experience Certified Courses
