    BACKGROUND

     The education of the Filipino youth is everybody’s concern. While government is tasked to

    provide free and quality education to every Filipino child and youth, the community where

    they grow is an important stakeholder in their education. The private sector, which will

    sooner or later employ these young Filipinos, is also an important stakeholder in their

    education. The successful collaboration of all these stakeholders is therefore pivotal inensuring that Filipino children and youth go to school, remain in school and learn in school. It

    poses a great challenge to educational stakeholders.

    It was with this spirit of volunteerism and publicprivate partnership for education that

    !epublic "ct #$%$, or the &"dopt"'chool "ct( was made in )**#. Through the "dopt"

    'chool +rogram "'+-, private sector companies and professionals are given the opportunity

    to contribute in improving the public education system of the country. To recognie their

    goodwill, they can avail of ta/ incentives of up to )$01. 2ver the years, the "dopt"'chool

    +rogram has attracted more than %00 partners, generating some +3 billion worth of pro4ects

    and interventions.

    In its e5ort to bring the spirit of the "dopt"'chool +rogram to the community level andma/imie civil participation and utilie local resources to improve the public schools, the

    6epartment of 7ducation launched the 8ational 'chools 9aintenance Week in 9ay %00:.

    6ubbed, ;rigada 7skwela, the program brought together teachers, parents and community

    members every third week of 9ay to work together in repairing and preparing public schools

    for school opening. In the spirit of bayanihan, private institutionsommittee. This will provide information in monitoring the school’s progress in

    accomplishing the ;7 work plan. These data will also be the basis for the drafting and

    ?naliation of school’s accomplishment reports to be submitted to the district and division
