Sichuan Province, and has so far yielded over 40 outstanding graduates under this program. The program
exerted substantial academic influence on such fields as the translation of German poetry to Chinese and
Chinese classics to German, and Goethe studies. To promote the further development of the program, a
university-level research institute, “Research Center for Classical German Literature”, was established, and

The Master‟s Degree Program in German Language and Literature commits to developing high-end
talents with systematic knowledge of German Literature, proficiency in translation theories and practice,
excellent abilities to offer instructions, perform researches and adapt to the changing society, and general
understanding of Marxism and the country‟s relevant guidelines, policies and regulations. According to the
Plan for this program, students are to be shaped into intellectuals with rigorous and realistic scholarship,
academic ethics and integrity and humanistic accomplishment. Upon completion of their studies, students,
proficient in speaking, writing and reading in German, are capable of proposing novel insights in their
dissertations and analyzing and solving practical problems with the theories and skills they have acquired.
Owing to their solid professional qualifications, they can work as translators and interpreters,
administrators, coordinators of foreign affairs, researchers, and instructors in government bodies, news
agencies, enterprises, universities and research institutes etc. In addition, they are qualified and well
prepared to pursue their doctoral degrees in relevant disciplines like German Literature, German
