HOLY CHILD PARISH BRIDGEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA
Holy God, you loved us into being and sent your Son into our midst, even after we rejected that love and turned away from you. May our contemplation of your love
for us free us to live Jesus’ command to love one
another, just as you love us.
Below is an outline of our grouping that was read at all Masses last weekend. For more information about all Parish Groupings, including Clergy Teams, Maximum Number of Masses and Categories visit onmissionchurchalive.org
Love One Another: The Call to Build Relationships: As the On
Mission for The Church Alive! announcements continue to sink in, we hear Jesus’ call in today’s Gospel to “love
one another.” It’s a simple command, without condition or rationalization. To love one another is the call of the Christian life and is at the heart of the On Mission! initiative. In the coming months the parishes in our grouping will begin to work together to build relationships rooted in faith, hope and love. These relationships should not be forced or fake but should recognize that we are one in our Catholic faith and that nothing should divide us. Then, with our common faith and love for one another as our foundation, we will be able to form parishes that are truly alive as resources, efforts and energies are shared. It can be easy to love what is familiar to us. As we journey On Mission for
The Church Alive! let us seek new ways to heed Jesus’ call to love one another. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Also, you can contact Ken Masztak at 412-400-9231 or [email protected] or Mark Zik at 412-
265-7533 or [email protected].
Your generosity has truly been a blessing. When we meet with families requesting assistance, we have to balance their needs with our financial resources. Sometimes
that involves asking the landlord or utility to accept partial payment to delay eviction or shut-offs. Some of our client’s needs can be addressed with food cards or a couple hundred dollars but if there has been a hospitalization or loss of job, the need can reach upward of $1,000.00 per family. During the month of May, our expenditures exceeded $3,000.00 for rent, utilities and furniture. Thankfully the need isn’t always that great. Please keep our clients in your prayers and know that your donation of $3,655.85 is going to go a long way to help people in our own community. GOD BLESS!
Bridgeville Area Food Bank: During the April 21st distribtuion, 103 families were assisted which included 51 children, 79 adults and 68 of the elderly. The following list of suggested food items are the most needed and distributed at the
food bank. Tuna, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, evaporated milk, pork & beans, mac & cheese, cereal, tea bags and jello. As always, “pot luck” items and monetary donations are appreciated. Please place your food donations in the baskets at the main doors of the church. Saturday, May 12 is the Annual Postal Carriers Food Drive. Thank you for your continuing generosity.
Festival of Praise! The Festival of Praise for May will be celebrated at Saint Paul Cathedral in conjunction with an all-night Vigil of Pentecost service. Bishop Zubik knows that the transition phase of On Mission for the Church Alive! will be challenging for many throughout our Diocese and he is calling the whole Diocese together for an all-night Pentecost Vigil at the Cathedral on May 19th. The Festival of Praise segment of the Vigil begins at 7:30 PM. The full Vigil schedule online; com and go at you please. Diopitt.org/events/Pentecost-vigil ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!
Join Catholic Musicians from around the Diocese of Pittsburgh for a Choral Festival sponsored by the Pittsburgh NPM Chapter (National Association of Pastoral Musicians) on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:30 PM at St. Bernard Church. There will be a chorus of over 100 singers under the direction of Dr. Caron Daley, Director of Choral Activities at Duquesne University; accompanied by organ and the Pittsburgh Brass Project. Admission is free. Donations of non-perishable food for those in need as well as tube socks for the homeless will be gladly accepted.
We extend our condolences to the family of Emilia “Mia” Fodor who was buried from Holy Child Parish. May she rest in
peace in the kingdom of God. May her family and friends know the faithfulness of Christ’s love.

A Family Perspective (by Bud Ozar): Today’s gospel challenges us to “love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus is our model and he asks us to “lay down our life” (our time, attention, opinions and needs) for each other. This is the sacrament of the family, when God is made visi-ble in our sacrificial love for one another.
