Presented with passion and humor, “makingme1st” sparks insight into how you can experience greater well-being and deliver your best. The program is a practical, systematic and profound approach based on Raj Kapur’s life and his years of experience with business leaders across dozens of industries. The makingme1st philosophy is rooted in the belief that, as individuals and organizations, we can put ourselves in a position to succeed by placing ourselves first. (Continued in next column)

Company: Endowance Solutions Year founded: 2007 Owners: Rob and Rita Hienekamp Bishop Ranch Location: 2603 Camino Ramon, Suite 250

Business type: Endowance is a business process consulting firm that helps clients define a mission, vision, values and goals, as well to create a strategic roadmap that will achieve those goals.

Business Approach: In simple terms, we help companies get better at what they do. If they are in trouble — which is often due to structural or process issues — we help them identify and solve the problem. When times are good, we help them become even more efficient and profitable.

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge is to achieve buy-in throughout the organization. Sometimes people don’t understand the process improvement strategy. Often, there are political issues — conflicts of interest among departments. Also, people often resist change. It’s a common concern that must be addressed.

Favorite Tasks: What I enjoy about what I do is seeing our customers succeed, seeing the results that we have envisioned materialize.

Least Favorite Task: It is difficult sometimes to manage all of the personalities involved; to get everyone behind the process of transformation.

Source of Inspiration: Success. It is inspiring to know that we did the right thing, that our customers are seeing results and that there is a higher level of employee satisfaction.

What Makes You Excel?: Creativity. I try to take a fresh approach. And I think that as a European, I have a different perspective. In Europe, we try to have fun at our jobs and perhaps we have a better work/life balance that ultimately contributes to doing well.

Suggestions for Young Executives: It’s important to focus. Don’t try to do too many things at once. Set two or three goals. And work long days (laughter).

A Goal You Still Want to Achieve: I have lots of goals. Short term, my goal is to make sure that when I’m not around, the company continues to drive forward.

Favorite Pastime: My wife and I enjoy boating, jet skiing and walking/playing with our three black Labradors.

Favorite Stressbuster: We work so hard we don’t notice the stress. No, actually we just make sure to enjoy downtime, to take time to play.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Hawaii. The island of Maui.

Favorite East Bay Restaurant: The Amber Bistro in Danville.

Favorite Music: We have 3,000 songs on the iPad or iPhone and it’s all over the place. Our tastes are eclectic.

Favorite Cause: I don’t know that we have a special cause, but as a European I feel a responsibility to my employees to provide very good benefits even though we are a small company. In Europe, we are accustomed to three or four weeks of vacation and good health care insurance.
