LAMs Our term 2 meetings started today. Student progress reports were handed out on Friday afternoon so that we can spend part of the time discussing them. The meeting also has time planned to review the negotiated goals from term 1. We did send home a review sheet a week ago. Some of them have come back but many have not. Some meetings were a bit tricky as we did not have the feedback to work from, so in order to give teachers time to properly prepare for your meeting, they do need to be returned to school at the very least one day before your meetings. As a matter of courtesy we will stick to this format and save any impromptu questions or issues for another meeting.

Pick ups and drops As much as we welcome support at school, please be aware that teachers are busy when in class and discussions with them should be reserved to an organised time outside of their teaching time. We are still operating under COVID restrictions/processes and all visitors to our school are required to first visit the office to check in with QR or if a quick drop-in/off complete the register. One of our admin staff will go to the class and take the kids over or collect the kids for you. If you are dropping your child off at the gate outside of class times please direct them to go to the office. If you do have a need to meet with a teacher, call the school and we will set up a time for that discussion.

Please also be aware that regular late drop offs or early pick-ups do have an adverse impact on students’ academic growth and are recorded as absences in the school system. Although it may not seem like much did you know that just 10 mins less school per day can add up to over half a year less learning in a student’s school career? I understand that there are essential commitments that families may have but would encourage you to rethink early pick-ups or drop offs if they can be avoided. Our goal for attendance is 95% full time attendance at school and as one of our targets this is one that we are striving to achieve. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Best Wishes to Miss Hanns Best wishes to Miss Hanns on her expected new arrival early next term. A very exciting time for her and her family. As mentioned last news we were very pleased to announce that Miss van Kool has accepted the offer to teach our little class for terms three and four while Miss Hanns is on leave having her baby. Miss van Kool was back to visit us last week and is extremely excited to start working with the Little Class after the break.

Small Schools Soccer Knockout Our first round knockout match is against Gooloogong Public School in Forbes this Thursday. Consent forms from those students selected are due back at school by Tuesday 9am at the very latest. If they have not been received by then we may have to consider finding and alternate player. Thank you to Melissa Brown for supporting the team.

School Disco We have made arrangements for our school disco on Thursday, 24 June. All of our kids - kindergarten to year six are invited to the disco. Mums and dads are welcome to drop the kids off, I will leave the kitchen at school open and warm for you to have a cuppa and a chat and maybe watch some TV if that suits you. Please let us know if you would like that, otherwise I’ll see you when you drop the kids off and pick them up. As usual it will be held at the Bedgerabong Hall. We will start at 6.00pm and finish at 8 pm. It will be $5 per student entry which includes venue hire entertainment and snacks.

School Term 3 Just a reminder that term 3 for students starts Tuesday July 13. We intend to start with Tootie Fruity that week so you may be able to be prepared and make the term payment as soon as school goes back - remember we ask $50 per family per term (or $8 per family if you choose a weekly option) payment can be made via Paypop on our website, cash or cheque to Bedgerabong School. We won’t be having hot food lunches the first week back. Hot food lunches for the kids will start week 2 of term 3.

Marimba Opportunity I have been in contact with our friends in the NSW Small Schools Marimba Ensemble and have what sounds like some very exciting news. The Opera House series of concerts have been cancelled for a couple of years as renovations are undertaken - however in its place are a series of concerts at the Sydney Town Hall. I believe the date is August 19. As usual it would be a - one song on stage performance, however accepted students will need to be very proficient in at least 10-12 other songs to be able to rehearse and play with the ensemble. Given it is a smaller venue the size of the Marimba Ensemble has also been reduced and we may have 3-4 positions available. I’m awaiting more specific details and confirmation of the number of places we will be offered. I’ll be asking for any Expressions of interest straight after the break. It will mean lots of lunchtime and several after school rehearsals. It might be worth any children who are keen to start practicing and working during the holidays. Happy to provide any support- the kids already have access to the songs and ‘cheat sheets’ through their Google Classroom.

K-2 news Last week of term! And last week for me!

The students in the K-2 class have been busy learning about coding. We have been playing an iPad app called 'Scratch Jr', which allows the students to code, sequence and program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems,

design projects, and express themselves creatively. I have been demonstrating different aspects of the app on the class board and encouraging the students to use their new skills to complete different Scratch challenges. It's a great tool to teach the students about the multiple layers and elements that go into a cartoon or video game. They are exposed to colour, direction, position, layout, numbers and

multiple steps. Over the break work with your kids to create a Scratch project or challenge each other with a coding task e.g. make Scratch dribble a basketball across the screen and shoot it into the hoop.

Thank you all for an amazing start to the year. I will miss seeing all of the students

everyday but I plan on dropping out for some surprise visits here and there (can't get rid of me that easily). Miss Hanns

Big Class news The term is drawing to a close and I think the children are ready for a break to recharge the batteries. We have had a busy, productive and successful term and I’d like to say well done to all of the children for their efforts. We still have a week to go - so in maths our focus this fortnight has been on Patterns & Algebra and Position. In guided English groups we have been delving deep into inferencing and by the time of printing, all students should have completed their persuasive writing assessment task. I am looking forward to catching up with all the Big Class parents this week - don’t forget to send in your pre-meeting sheet if you have not already done so. Another reminder - as mentioned in the last newsletter, a $100 excursion deposit is requested before the end of term. We have already paid the accommodation deposit so we need to start having funds come through. Please contact the school if you have any questions regarding the excursion. Enjoy your Winter break everyone! Mrs Faulkner

FREAKY FACTS Venus spins clockwise. It’s the only planet that does! One teaspoon of a neutron star would weigh six-billion tons. Neptune’s days are 16 hours long.
