SALAM SEJAHTERA

PRESENTING the 6th editi on of Borneo Post Internati onal Educati on Fair (BPIEF) is a milestone for us.

BPIEF has come a long way as a CSR acti vity of Borneo Post for students and those intending to obtain higher qualifi cati ons.

This is our way to give back to the society that has supported us over the years and made us the largest local English daily in Borneo.

We are blessed with insti tuti ons of good repute that have been with us since the beginning and the scores of visitors who specially made their way to BPIEF to meet up with the exhibitors.

The BPIEF Committ ee takes this opportunity to express our heartf elt thanks and grati tude for the conti nuous support and guidance of our Patron the Honourable Datuk Hajah Fati mah Abdullah, the State Educati on Department and State Department for Women & Family.

We also thank the teachers, students, exhibitors, parents, volunteers as well as the various organisati ons whose feedback and

suggesti ons have allowed us to improve.

We, at BPIEF, welcome new and returning exhibitors from public and private insti tuti ons both local and overseas.

We acknowledge the corporati ons who sponsored lucky draw prizes as well as gift bags.

Terima Kasih.

DORGE RAJAHBPIEF chairman

WE believe that all students have a bright future, we just have to give them the chance to show what they are capable of.

The key to this is getti ng an educati on. Educati on opens up a world of possibiliti es, inspires dreams, insti lls confi dence and opens the mind.

Sarawak Educati on Department is fully committ ed to ensuring students are educated with the right skills, outlooks and atti tudes to enable them to face the multi -faceted challenges in life that come with increased technological advancements, migrati on patt erns, economic, environmental, politi cal and social progress.

Success is oft en measured based on our ability to prepare our students for the rigours and challenges of the world around us.

Our community conti nues to have high expectati ons of us and we conti nually need to assess our programmes, policies and related strategies to ensure they are relevant to 21st century needs and aspirati ons of the country.

As thousands of students go down the halls of the educati on system every year, they will need accurate informati on on choices of further educati on or training programmes. This is where the Borneo Post Internati onal Educati on Fair comes in.

As a commendable CSR acti vity, Borneo Post brings local, nati onal and internati onal educati on insti tuti ons

under one roof right to our doorstep.I strongly urge students and parents to

visit Borneo Post Internati onal Educati on Fair for the exposure and to look at the very wide range of choices and opti ons available for their terti ary educati on and skills training.

In 1997, the Government of Malaysia established the Asia-Europe Centre (AEC), the fi rst step of Asia-Europe university cooperati on in educati on designed to support the Fourth Pillar of the ASEM process. Three years aft er its incepti on, on 2 January 2000, the AEC was transformed into a full-fl edged academic insti tuti on. Campus lifeDunedin is the only true university city in New Zealand and Australia with more than 21,000 young people coming not only to learn, but also to live in our beautiful coastal city. In 2013, the Huffington Post listed the University of Otago as one of the fifteen most beautiful university campuses in the world. Located on the edge of the Dunedin Botanic Garden, Otago’s stunning campus offers students an unrivalled campus experience and vibrant cultural life. Situated just a few blocks from the city centre, almost all students live within walking distance of the campus and key facilities. Most undergraduates study at the main campus in Dunedin and stay at one of our 15 residential colleges or in character-filled flats/apartments close to campus. Otago has world-class teaching facilities and libraries and our state-of-the-art gymnasium enables students to get fit and stay fit while they study. Our students are also spoilt to live in New Zealand’s first ‘Gigatown’, meaning that the city has access to the fastest internet in the Southern Hemisphere. Academic programmesHome to a large number of internationally ranked departments, Otago ranks among the top 100 in the world in 12 different subject areas with four of those falling in the top 50. That’s an amazing accomplishment for a moderately sized university located at the bottom of the world. Otago has particular teaching and research strengths across the areas of Applied Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Dentistry, Earth Sciences, Economics, Education, English Language and Literature, Food and Nutrition, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Public Health, and Tourism. Many of our programmes are the only ones of their kind in New Zealand. Otago is home to the country’s only dental school, the only school of surveying and the country’s only standalone botany programme. We have the largest science communication programme in the world and the most successful genetics programme in Australasia. Our law school is regarded as the best in the country and ours is the oldest and largest medical school in New Zealand. Otago’s annual Foreign Policy School continues to attract leading national and international speakers. For more than two decades, the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs has used the school to train the new cohorts of New Zealand diplomats. Otago at a glance:• Ranked 159th in the world (QS World Rankings 2014)• Ranked 19th for Psychology, 37th for Law and top 100 for Accounting and Finance (QS 2014)• Ranked in the top 100 universities in the world for Life Sciences and Medicine (QS 2014)• The oldest University in New Zealand, est 1869• Highest number of national teaching awards• Otago has one of the highest numbers of PhD completions in the country• 70% of Otago’s academic staff were identified as internationally or nationally distinguished
