Dear Friends:Many centuries ago, the author of the Book of Proverbs illuminated the source of greatest joy for parents: “the father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who begets a wise son will be glad in him.” (Prv. 23:24) Some things never change! To this very day, nothing gladdens the heart of a parent more than to see his or her child succeed and find happiness in the pursuit of worthy and noble goals.

As educators, we have the privilege of helping your children find wisdom — that wisdom which comes from knowing and pursuing all that is good, true, and beautiful. This issue of the Link is filled with accounts of the many achievements of our students in every field, from physics to fine arts, and football to faith.

We are indeed proud of trophies won on the playing field and in academic as well as fine arts competitions. My greatest joy, however, was reflected in a remark made by Andrew Wentworth at our annual Founder’s Dinner. He expressed his gratitude for his McGill-Toolen experience in these words: “I want to thank you personally for giving me and thousands of others the ability to both receive an excellent academic education and be filled with zeal for the Catholic faith, which is so desperately needed in today’s world.”

As Christian parents and teachers, we labor to see our children obtain the knowledge they need to be successful in college and life, but we rejoice to see them acquire knowledge ‘for the love of God.’

Congratulations to all of our students, especially the Class of 2018, for an amazingly successful year –thank you for giving us, your parents and teachers, so many reasons to rejoice.

Sincerely,

Fr. Bry Shields

Andrew Wentworth: Andrew is the son of Sean and Cynthia Wentworth. He is an Aquinas Scholar, a member of our elite Chamber Singers and a varsity athlete. He will be attending St. Joseph’s Seminary College next fall.

The day after I was asked to speak at tonight’s event, I began thinking and reflecting on how the last four years

have specifically changed my life, and I kept going back to the outstanding academic achievements of the class of 2018: With 2 perfect scores on the ACT, 4 National Merit finalists, and 20 Aquinas scholars, including Emily and I, the academic excellence of our class certainly testifies to the stellar quality of education at McGill-Toolen Catholic. So, as I thought about what I could say, I could not get past the academic formation McGill has blessed me with…until I realized where I was sitting. It was 7:30 in the morning and I, along with a few other classmates, was preparing to pray The Liturgy of the Hours in the beautiful chapel across the agora from where we are gathered tonight (dining hall). By far, the new chapel has been one of the most transformative parts of my high school experience. Specifically, the central location of the chapel, compared to its previous location isolated on the second floor of Toolen, makes it so convenient for just dropping in for a few moments of silent prayer in between classes! Not only has it been used by some for personal meditation, but also for team and faculty masses and by the religion classes for praying the rosary and Stations of the Cross. In fact, just this morning, a couple of friends and I were gathered outside the chapel about to go in, we peeked our heads in, and Father Boutin was celebrating a mass for our Golf team. Caroline Picard, one of the students who was with us, said she knew

the code for St. Mary’s chapel, and we went there and prayed Morning Prayer before the first bell. So, Father Shields, it might be a good idea to set up a sign-up sheet for reserving the chapel!

But honestly, at the end of the day, isn’t that the entire reason behind this school? A bold Catholic identity is at the heart of every aspect of McGill-Toolen. It’s evident in our sporting events, our normal school day, and even the layout of our campus, with the chapel being at the center of the school. This all shows how every McT event is centered on and anchored in Christ. The chapel has greatly influenced my faith life by enabling me to establish a daily structure of prayer.

Another blessing that has had a profound influence on my life is being a part of the family of Chamber Singers under

the direction of Ms. Beth Haley. Her class is definitely the highlight of every school day. I have been a part of it for 3 years, and so we have a lot of experience singing for various school masses as well as special masses for the Archdiocese. I am so very grateful for the opportunity this group has given me; to participate in the mass in a special way, by

leading the congregation in music and song. Ms. Haley also always makes sure to tell us: “You’ve got to BELIEVE what you’re singing!” Since much of what we sing in Chamber is liturgical in nature, a lot of what we are singing about is the Good News! It has definitely brought to life what I’ve learned in my theology classes—which I also have nothing but high praise for. Every year I have been blessed with a theology teacher who is not only on fire for the Catholic faith themselves, but who has taught us why we should also be passionate about our faith.

Overall, being a part of Chamber Singers, cross country and track, Ambassadors, campus ministry, and Aquinas has helped form me into the well-rounded person I am today.

Our Students say it best! The following are excerpts from remarks made by two of our outstanding seniors at our annual Founder’s Dinner this May.

But honestly, at the end of the day,

isn’t that the entire reason behind

this school? A bold Catholic identity

is at the heart of every aspect

of McGill-Toolen.

I was already aware, because of my older siblings who went here before me, that there literally is something for everyone here at McGill Toolen. However, what I didn’t realize until experiencing it first hand is that there is one very important thing that makes McT stand out, that is worth EVERY-THING to me. That is the chance to grow in knowledge of the Faith and the opportunity to pursue my relationship with Christ in an intimate way.

Contrary to some who may think it’s our awesome foot-ball team, or physics team, or even Chamber Singers—you fill in the blank with any of McGill’s numerous great extra-curricular clubs and sports—in my opinion, it’s the education in our faith that truly is our school’s claim to fame! I want to thank you personally for giving me and thousands of others the ability to both receive an excellent academic education AND be filled with zeal for the Catholic faith, which is so desperately needed in today’s world.

Emily O’Neill: Emily is the daughter of Mike and Gina O’Neill. She is the 6th generation of her family to attend McT. She is an Aquinas Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, a varsity athlete and a member of the Chamber Singers. She will attend Auburn University in the fall.

These past four years at McGill have been so incredible. I have learned so many things, met so many people, and grown immensely in my Catholic faith. I have had the opportunity to join clubs, sports teams, and academic programs to become the best possible version of myself. I am involved in many things here at McGill. I am a part of the track and field team, the swim team, the Aquinas program, the ambassador club, and chamber singers as well as campus ministry. Each of these things has uniquely impacted my life in a way that I could not have had anywhere else.

Track and swim have allowed me to do what I love while meeting so many people who I would otherwise never have the opportunity to get to know. This weekend, I will get to compete in my last ever state meet in track, and I am actually very sad about it! I love my team and my coaches so much, and I am really going to miss being a part of that wonderful program.

As a St. Thomas Aquinas Scholar, I am able to challenge myself academically, taking several AP and honors classes. I feel so ready for college because I have been pushed to try my hardest in school and make good grades. I am thankful to Mrs. Robertson for always checking up on us to make sure we are surviving our AP classes each quarter when she feeds us pizza and these amazing blondies that Mrs. Ankerson bakes for us, and I will always appreciate Ms. Falzini constantly emailing us to stay on top of our college applications

processes and scholarship opportunities. I’m not sure they realize the positive impact that they have on every individual student here.

Being a chamber singer has also been amazing. I get to sing every day with some of the best people. This group is one big happy family, and I am so thankful to be a part of it. Being a chamber singer gives me the chance to sing at school masses, in the Cathedral, and in competitions around the southeast. For example, we just got back from Nashville last week, and that trip was so much fun. I’ve never been to Nashville, so I’m happy that my first experience there was with that group. We placed first in our mixed group and second in both our boys and girls groups because we have such and incredibly talented director Ms. Haley. She never fails to teach us how to improve our musical abilities.

Finally, campus ministry has taught me to fully embrace my catholic faith. I have grown so much since my first year here as a 14-year-old freshman. I look back at these past four years to all the days when a group of us would get together to pray Liturgy of the Hours in the chapel before school, or when a group of girls would get together on Thursday morn-ings to read the daily readings and discuss them over a fresh pot of coffee, and 20-hour bus rides every January to attend the pro-life march in DC. All of these things individually and uniquely impacted my life in a way that still continues to draw me into the faith.

Here at McGill, I realize that we have the best commu-nity anyone could ask for. I have made some really amazing lifelong friends. Every day, I get to come to school and be with people like Andrew and our other friends all day long. The people that this place produces are the most quality people anyone could meet. I have grown so close to so many people who not only exhibit their faith daily, but push me to draw closer to my faith as well.

We also have the best teachers who exhibit this same wonderful quality. Our religion department has helped me understand my faith in a deeper, fuller way. Teachers such as Mrs. Reilly, Coach Abraham, Mr. McDonald, Coach Arens-berg, and others are so on fire for Catholicism and growing closer to our Lord, and they daily inspire each student they encounter. I can remember walking into religion class on the first day my senior year and hearing Coach Arensberg speak to us. I remember thinking “wow”. This man is so holy. One day I want to be as holy as he is! And this doesn’t just apply to him but honestly to every religion teacher I’ve had here. The experiences that I have had learning in these classrooms are ones that I am going to take with me with me next year to Auburn, and beyond because what we learn here is just that important, and I am just that inspired to embrace my catholic faith as my teachers do.

McGill-Toolen Catholic High School is THE best high school. I may be graduating this year, but I will always be a yellow jacket.

Physics Team

Ingenium Staff

6 theLink · · · · Summer 2018

As members of the Class of 2018 walked across the stage to accept their diplomas, they finalized their reputation for breaking records. They started their final year of high school with two students earning perfect scores on the ACT and four being named National Merit Finalists, and they ended with $19 million in scholarship offers. In between, 20 percent of the class scored 30 or higher on the college entrance exam, the Physics team won another state championship, the Ingenium earned national recognition, and both the Band and the Chamber Singers earned the highest accolades possible.

The Physics team, under the direction of science instructor Adrian O’Keefe, walked away with most of the trophies given at the state competition at the University of Alabama. McT’s Team A won first place overall, Team B won second place, and Team C earned fourth place; all three teams won the top three spots in the private school division, taking home the first place trophy for the fifth year in a row. The senior leaders were Marvin Collins, Peter McDonald, and Patrick Spafford.

McT’s literary magazine, the Ingenium, earned the Alabama Scholastic Press Association’s All Alabama first place award and the National Scholastic Press Association’s All

America award. Under the tutelage of English teachers Mary Carter and Nancy Fontenot, the Ingenium was born three years ago, and budding creative writers have produced a magazine that is recognized as one of the best student-produced magazines in both the state and the nation. Senior editors for this year’s edition, “Bridges”, were Elizabeth Baldwin and Michelle Roca.

The performing arts groups added to their outstanding records this year as well. The Marching Band earned the highest ranking at the Azalea City Marching Festival, a superior for the tenth year in a row. As evidence of the band’s talent, Drum Major Taylor Fridley will attend the University of Alabama this fall, where she earned a prestigious position to play the clarinet in the Million Dollar Band. The Concert Band continued the pattern with a superior at the state level for the eighth consecutive year. Both bands are under the direction of Sean Noah. “I am very proud of the level of commitment that the band members show on a daily basis,” he said. “It is very impressive to watch the marching band and listen to the concert band play at such a high level. There are some college programs that would struggle to match the ability of the McT Band Program.”

Choral Director Beth Haley led the Chamber Singers to another victory at the national competition in Nashville this spring, with the Men earning second place and the Women and Chamber both taking first place. “They competed with schools three times their size and performed wonderfully,” Haley said. “Whether they perform as a company or as separate ensembles, these singers always bring their A game.”

None of these successes would be possible without our dedicated faculty. Our teachers accrued nearly 3,000 professional development

hours last year. During the summer, many teachers give up their free time to hone their craft, attending seminars around the country. Social Studies teachers Mark Tenhundfeld,

Abby Woodard and Lise Knott graded AP exams in Salt Lake City, Tampa, and Kansas City respectively. English teachers Marlena Braun and Catherine Woodyard attended the AP Literature workshop at Northwestern University in Chicago. Science teacher Adrian O’Keefe attended an AP Physics workshop in Palo Alto, California while Science Department Chairman Kerry Goff organized a Flint STEM camp for middle schoolers. Teachers Lucy Holmes, Virginia Hodges and T.J. Singleton traveled to Boston for a conference on the latest developments in teaching foreign language.

Our Math and English departments also started a formal math tutoring program and a writing center this year. With members of Mu Alpha Theta, the national math honor

society, moderator Kristen Brack organized students to help other students twice weekly. English teachers Marlena Braun and Camille Johnston, with the assistance of National Honor Society members and Aquinas students, opened the writing center two times a week on opposite days for students who needed assistance with any writing assignment. They all plan to continue to grow these programs in the fall for students needing extra help.

Meeting the needs of McT students is always a top priority, which has led to the founding of the Annunciation Program, set to roll out this fall. The Annunciation Program will serve developmentally disabled students with cognitive impairments and/or significant learning disabilities. While the focus with be on academics with a significant emphasis on vocational/transitional exploration, a primary goal is for each student to be as fully integrated as possible into the life of the school community - to maximize a student’s potential in academics, faith formation, social skills and life skills.

As the new school year begins, we welcome new faculty members, Hollye Dueitt, who will teach English; Matthew Scott, who will teach PE and coach; Thomas Clarke, an ACE teacher who will teach Biology; and Deacon Bill Harkins, who will teach Theology.

Congratulations to this year’s award recipients

“The secret to happiness is to love moment by moment and to thank God for what he is sending every day in his goodness.” –St. Gianna Molla.

If we had one way to describe our semester it would have been just that. We are filled with awe and gratitude at what the Lord accomplished each and every day through Campus Ministry these past few months.

We cannot stop talking about how grateful we are to every single person who donated to our McT 365 Campaign. Campus Ministry cannot run as it should without help. Every time a new donation came in we would cheer or dance. We firmly believe our kids deserve the best and when we are able to provide that for them we are so excited. We are looking forward to relaunching that in January.

Women’s retreat exploded this year going from 63 girls attending last year to 135 this year. 1-3-5. IT’S INCREDIBLE!! The retreat is open to all four grades and pulls in a wide spread group of gals to Orange Beach for the weekend. Our theme this year was “Known” which focused on how each and every one of us is known for who we truly are and loved right there. The idea that being loved is not something that is earned but rather something that we were created for, regardless of if we feel like we have earned that loved. We cried, we laughed, we prayed, we worshiped, and we danced... a lot.

Late in the spring semester a core group of senior guys, accompanied by several underclassmen leaders, joined us for a Men’s Day Retreat. Beginning with Mass in Mobile, we headed to Florida to kayak down an 8-mile stretch of the river. After an exhausting but fun several hours on the river, we came back to Mobile to grill out, play basketball and close our night with Adoration, worship and interces-sory prayer. For the senior guys, it was a great day to reflect on their time at McT and look forward to their college years. We discussed the importance of brotherhood and accountability at every stage

in a man’s life. It was a blessed weekend.

Every year we are excited to team up with our entire faculty and staff for a retreat as well. This year in March, we came together for Mass and breakfast and then set out from McT on mission. We went in groups to places throughout Mobile such as St. Mary’s Home, the Carmelite Monastery,

the Visitation Monastery, Most Pure Heart of Mary School and Ronald McDonald House. It’s always a fun day to hang out with people outside of our department and get our hands dirty in some service work.

Aside from our big retreats, most of our ministry is done through the day to day work with the students. A lot of parents ask for our insight on what’s going on in the life and mind of their teen. We have a very privileged position of seeing a side of the teens that most don’t get to see. What we have learned is that kids are filled with anxiety to succeed. The fear of failure is in the back of their minds at all times. Failing at a sport, failing in school, failing to be what their parents expect them to be, the list goes on and on. Our advice:

Pray for your children. Every single day pray for them. They go through so much more than what we notice.

Let them know you are proud of them. Take the time to look them in the eye and let them know you see them and are proud even if they didn’t land that 4.0 or make the sports team they wanted.

We will spend most of the summer taking trips with youth groups as well as planning for next year. Again we cannot do what we do without the support of the McT family as a whole. We are humbled by the beautiful witness this school community is of the universal church working together to draw us all closer to Christ.

We introduced The St. Augustine Schol-arship Program to fill a need that our current tuition assistance programs do not by offering scholarships to families whose income might exceed the financial aid recommendations of the FACTs program, but for whom tuition is still a struggle. This program will help ensure that our Catholic students, who embody the values and ideals that we seek at McGill-Toolen Catholic, can experience all that we have to offer. Within the program we offer scholarships for the children of those who serve our Catholic community, such as Catholic school teachers, first responders, active-duty military, children of alumni and our Aquinas scholars. To qualify for this scholarship, students must demonstrate academic achievement, community service, and a commitment to their Catholic faith, as well as financial need. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2500 each year, for four years.

To be eligible for consideration, the student must be registered as a freshman for the 2018/19 school year at McGill-Toolen CHS and meet the following criteria: • Catholic students currently enrolled in a K-8

Archdiocese School• An active member of one of our parishes enrolled in another

school system (Parish priest recommendation required)• Submit a FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment

(https://online.factsmgt.com/aid)• Cannot be a recipient of a grant under the Alabama

Accountability Act• Meet the requirements of the specific scholarship for which

the application is submitted. Thanks to the generosity of our donors through our

Day of Thanksgiving Campaign and proceeds from Dancing with the Stars, we were able to award 10 scholarships at our Annual Scholarship Breakfast this May to incoming freshman – members of the McT Class of 2022! These students will receive $2500 per year for their 4 years at McGill-Toolen Catholic.

We know the need for this program is great and have made it a fundraising priority for the McGIll-Toolen Foun-dation. We will once again be dedicating proceeds from our annual Thanksgiving Tuesday Campaign (November 27, 2018) and Dancing with the Stars to the St. Augustine Scholarship this coming year.

Brooks Green was selected the McT Male Student Athlete of the Year and won the Mobile Rotary Club Tennis Player of the Year for the last 5 years. Our Girls Tennis Team finished 4th this season. The girls had a very strong performance at the state tournament by 7th grader Ada Barber who finished Runner Up in the #5 singles to a senior from Vestavia Hills.

SoccerGirls Soccer returned to the championship game this year in Huntsville to finish Runner Up to Vestavia Hills by a score of 2-1. Falling behind 2-0, the scrappy Jackets scored on a 25 yard goal by Chloe Martin. Chloe scored a record 105 goals in her career at McT!

Boys Soccer returned to the Final Four this season before losing to eventual state champion Auburn High 1-0. This Senior class reached the semi finals 2 out of the last 4 years.

BaseballBaseball lost in the first round to eventual state champion Auburn High in the best of three series 2-1. Behind strong pitching from juniors Spencer Hadley and Chandler Best the Jackets returned to the play offs for the 3rd consecutive year. Chandler Best recorded 3 no hitters including a perfect game against Murphy this season.

SoftballSoftball continues to improve each year and with graduating one senior this year, the Jackets look to have a solid unit for the 2019 season. A strong middle infield of Lindsey Mecom and Corinne Stein will be the anchor for the coming season. Freshman Pitcher/3rd Base Bailee Welsh committed to Texas State.

GolfOur Boys Golf Team finished 3rd this year with two golfers finishing under par in the championship round. Price Brown at -2 & Brendan Reilly at -1. Graduating one senior the Jackets look to contend for the championship in the 2019 season.

Our Girls Golf Team returned to the state tournament for the first time since 2014. They will lose senior, Kay Pond, but the returning trio of Meghan Stein, Laura Burch and Maribeth Reilly should help the Jackets return to the state tournament for many years.

Track & FieldWe installed a new record board at the Banks/Harris Track this year and several of the records will already need to be updated after this incredible season. McT swept the

The spring athletic season of 2018 will be marked as a season of distinction. This spring we saw records fall and new records established. We saw teams and individuals become champions, some by large margins and others by the slightest of margins.

The evening began with a cocktail hour and dinner buffet in the new student center with 750 guests.

Fr. Shields, President of McGill-Toolen Catholic, and Devon Walsh, WKRG Anchor and McT Alum served as masters of ceremony. The first act brought the crowd to their feet with Principal Michelle Haas and former Yellow Jacket, DJ Fluker as Beauty and the Beast. They were followed by Tricia Donaghey Vallee and Bart Briggs who channeled the King with their Elvis inspired routine and took home the Mirror Ball Trophy for Fan Favorite. The husband and wife team of Andrew and Teresa Cash won over our judges with their beautifully executed Ballroom routine to take home the trophy for Best Technical Routine.

Our entire cast outdid themselves: Kay Rehm and Charlie Willcox; Tjaden O’Dowd Cox and Mike O’Dowd ; Dominique Matranga Hicks and Tim Finnorn; Emma Mayhall and Phillip Murphy; Amy Cornelius Huff and Gary Cowles; Deidra Dekle and Monsignor Farmer; Christy Hirschfeldt Evans and Jason Veasey, Chelsea Lipford Wolf and Wesley

Williams and Laura Kahalley Megginson and Alec Naman.

The true purpose of the night was to raise funds for McT and the Overall Winner was the team with the most votes – each vote cost $1 -and Team Elvis took that title as well raising $32,378! The team of Finnorn and Hicks came in 2nd with $21,377 and Evans and Veasey in 3rd with an impressive $18,195 . It was a fabulous evening that raised more than $160,000 for McT!

It’s great to be a Yellow Jacket! As we wrap another successful school year, I cannot help but think about how instrumental our alumni have been in its success. Our academics are stronger than ever, boasting a professional and dedicated staff – many of which are alumni. It is both amazing and inspiring to see the amount of support our school, programs, and teams receive both in person and via social media from our alumni. They are so proud of their alma mater and the accomplishments of the programs that they were once a part of. Once a Jacket, always a Jacket!

The month of April brought us the first annual Alumni Giving Challenge, with donations going towards The Fund for McGill-Toolen Catholic. The Challenge brought in 50 new donors and helped push our total Alumni giving to The Fund to over $268,000 for the 2017-2018 school year. The Class of 1985 came out on top boasting the highest number of donors, with the Classes of 1968 and 1959 finishing second and third respectively.

The Class of 1968 held their 50th Reunion in the Student Center on Saturday, April 21, 2018 hosting alumni from Bishop Toolen, Convent of Mercy and McGill Institute. They held an intimate

Mass in the White-Lipscomb Chapel dedicated to their deceased classmates and took a tour of campus, reminiscing about classrooms, teachers and the memories they made together. Over 210 alumni and their guests enjoyed the main event in the dining hall. Afterwards, classmates put their own stamp on the storied McT tradition of painting the cannon! We love having our alumni back on campus and look forward to hosting the Class of 1998 in the fall and the Classes of 1969 and 1999 in the summer of 2019.

Please make plans to connect with us next school year and we hope to have you as a part of our 2018 Homecoming Celebration. “Who are We? McT!”

Sincerely,

Jennifer D. Tolbert ’97

Mary Lou Sheffield Noletto BT ’49 celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the opening of her dance studio, Sheffield School of the Dance, at the Showtime recital June 8-9, 2018. “Miss Mary Lou” graced the stage with her family, Sheffield Dancers, and Sheffield Alumni for a memorable finale.

In attendance for the celebration were here four children, Herbert “Ray” Noletto Jr. MI ’73 (Jenny), Theresa Noletto Hutchins MT ’75 (Bob), Celi Noletto Shinn MT ’77 (Donnie) and John R. Noletto MT ’78 (Tanya) and niece, Joanie Noletto MT ’79. Her grandchildren that were not able to be present are: Joe Noletto MT ’97 (Colleen), Nick Noletto MT ’98 (Megan), Katie Noletto Felis MT ’03 (Andrew) and Gabe Shinn MT ’11.

C. Gary Raby MI ’62 and his wife Georgia Ellard Raby ME ’64 have been married over 53 years and now reside in Hoover, Alabama. Gary is retired from sales and he and Georgia love Alabama football, playing Bridge, and visiting the Gulf Shores beaches. They have two daughters, Gina Raby Stoval and Ginger Raby Matthews, and a late son, Chuck. Gary and Georgia are very proud of their 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and still value the time they spent at McGill Institute and Convent of Mercy.

Connie Simpson, “Nanny Connie”, MT ’78 just released her first book The Nanny Connie Way: Secrets to Mastering the First Four Months of Parenthood, which includes quotes from some of her most beloved clients including Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. Connie started out working with well-to-do moms in Mobile and across the bay in Fairhope. From there, word spread about her amazing way with babies - and with their parents. Soon, she became “the” nanny to call when celebrities needed help with their newborn. In a loving, no-nonsense and funny voice, Connie’s message is that parents already have everything they need to be successful. In a first for the publishing industry, readers can actually see and hear Connie via augmented reality through the Nanny Connie app. Throughout the book, there are places where readers can aim a smartphone or tablet and, with a click, Connie appears to pop out, giving additional information. “I can update the information, so the book is forever giving,” she says. At the end of the book, readers can upload their own videos, adding to those some of her celebrity clients have already contributed. Connie likes to think she’s building a

And now her book can serve as a foundation for new parents who can’t afford to have a nanny take care of the baby in the middle of the night to let them sleep. “Most people don’t do much encouraging. She set a goal at the end of that year to run a half marathon or marathon in every state. She loves to travel and decided to

combine the two. In 2010, Elizabeth embarked on an 8 year journey that changed her life. In the past 8 years she has now completed 61 half marathons, 12 marathons, 10k’s, 5k’s, and several relay races. The Bishop Toolen, Convent of Mercy, and McGill Institute classes of 1943-1947 have established the annual tradition of holding a reunion the first Saturday of May at Felix’s Fish Camp. The event began after the Class of 1945 held their 50th Reunion and decided they needed a regular get together. They met with the Class of 1944, added the classes of 1946 and 1947, and later joined forces with the Class of 1943 to create this special reunion event now 22 years strong! The group invites the surviving spouses of their classmates to this reunion every year as well, showing their school spirit and their commitment to family.

On January 12, 2018, McT Hoops hosted men’s basketball alumni for food, fellowship and a pre-game talk with head coach Phillip Murphy. Alumni were welcomed home at center court prior to tip-off of the anticipated area rivalry game against the Murphy Panthers. Elisa Toth, McT’s Fundraising Coordinator, worked with McT Hoops and other sports programs and booster clubs to institute two other alumni nights in the spring of 2018. McT Women’s Soccer hosted alumnae on March 19th at their senior night match-up against Spanish Fort. McT Baseball welcomed alumni onto the field after their senior night game against Mobile Chris-tian on April 9th.

A very special welcome was given to the 1979 Men’s Tennis back-to-back State Championship team at the McT Tennis banquet on May 3rd. The 1979 team were the

honored guests at the banquet, and helped recognize the men’s team for their 2018 7A State Championship title – the first for the men’s program since 1979!

We are excited to announce that two Alumni Nights have already been set for fall sports. The McT Football program will welcome their alumni on Friday, September 14th as the Yellow Jackets take on Davidson at the Lip. The Dirty Dozen will welcome alumni at their match against Bayside Academy on Thursday, September 20th in the Portier Center. Complete details about these nights will be emailed to alumni and posted on social media once they are finalized. Please contact Elisa Toth at [email protected] if you would like to connect with your former sports program and their booster club to get more information on participating in their Alumni Night.
