Qualifications explainedNational Certificate (NC) and Higher National Certificate (HNC) both provide the practical skills you need to do a job and the theoretical knowledge employers expect staff to have.Professional Development Awards (PDAs) are principally designed for those already in a career or vocation who wish to extend or broaden their skills base. They may also be embedded within another qualification such as HNC/HND.
Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs)SVQs are work-based qualifications which set the level of occupational competence for each sector of the economy. They are assessed in the workplace and have five levels to reflect the various skills, knowledge and experience which employees should have as they progress in their industry.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) QuALIFICATIONS
It may be that you wish to improve your knowledge of English to have a speaking, listening, writing and reading qualification that allows you a better understanding of English language.These qualifications are for candidates whose first language is not English. The topics and tasks covered are relevant to learners and are related to everyday work, study, community and social situations.The ESOL qualifications are delivered at different levels, at each level everyday communication is studied, covering a range of subject areas such as purchasing goods and services, health, travel, free time and leisure. At each level work and study related skills are studied, covering a range of subject areas such as organisation skills, understanding situations, presentation skills, letters, emails, application forms and making telephone calls.The learning and teaching is related to the particular context in which the candidate operates, such as their working environment. Learning is practical and skills based and reflects the outside world so that candidates can become autonomous language learners. Learning activities have a focus on goal setting and self-evaluation so that candidates benefit from future learning.
