School Site Council Survey

This year our School Site Council is composed of two teachers,

three parents and me. School Site Council members are charged with the obligation to make decisions that will best serve the whole school community.

One of their duties is to conduct an ongoing evaluation of our educational programs. As part of their ongoing evaluation of our educational programs here in the Bolinas-Stinson

School, the School Site Council has prepared a survey of parents, staff, recent alumni and current students, in order to receive direct input from stakeholders regarding our

programs.

Parents, teachers and recent alumni can take the survey in the comfort of their homes.

You will receive an email from the school next week with a link to the appropriate survey for you. Students, from 5th through 8th grades, will have the opportunity to take their

survey at school during the school day.

Your input is valuable and important to us in our efforts to evaluate our school programs

in order that we best serve the entire school community. The survey is short and should take no more than 15 minutes, possibly five to ten. We appreciate your taking the time

to give us a piece of your mind.

The Art Department is happy to announce that our school has just started an exciting partnership with

the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation (SAFF) through their Artists Teaching Art program. Artists

Teaching Art (ATA) is an arts education program developed by the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation

(SAFF) to serve students K-12 in both public and private schools throughout Marin County. As

California schools transition to the Common Core Standards, ATA understands that arts integration is

an important part of this transition. ATA along with participating schools, teachers and professional

artists collaborate to create a variety of artist-in-residence projects designed to inspire children to think

differently about core subjects such as, math, science, history, geography, literature and art through

project based learning. The program supports deeper learning and thinking by connecting the core

subject to an art form while maintaining the integrity of both the core subject and the artistic process.

Action weaver artist,

Travis Meinolf, will be

conducting a fun and

meaningful weaving

project with 4th and

5th graders during

the next four weeks.

Student’s artwork will

be on display on the

Art show on May 30th.

National Bike to School Day!

JOIN MILLIONS OF KIDS NATIONWIDE

ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 2014

LET’S FILL UP THE BIKE RACKS AND NOT THE GAS TANKS ON MAY 7!

Safe Routes to Schools will host a welcome table to greet all students who travel green by bike, foot, carpool or bus on National Bike to School Day. If you live far away, then drive part way and walk the remaining route with your child. Consider setting up meeting points with other families to gather and bike/walk together at a specific time so as to arrive at school early enough for hot chocolate.

Also, we need a volunteer or two to help with that since Anny will be on Friday Assembly duty shortly thereafter. Volunteer parents will also be distributing erasers to students who arrive to school by bike, foot or carpool as an incentive to encourage green travel for the remainder of the school year.

Thank you for your support in continuing to transform Marin County into a place where traveling to school by foot or bike is the most popular mode of transportation.

Summer’s coming and the Bolinas Stinson Summer Camp is ramping up for great summer fun and out-door

explorations for kids entering 1st -8th grade. Our program has been providing safe, supervised activities and

delighting campers and their families for 4 weeks in July since 1992. BSSC is a great way to give your children an

active and memorable summer experience.

Our website:bostinsummercamp.org is where to check us out, learn what’s new this year, as well as download a

registration form for this summer’s program. Brochures are also available in the school office and in our local

libraries. The deadline for early registration is May 15th!

Scholarships are available for families who qualify for assistance, and of course, the program is tax-deductible as

childcare.

We’re excited about our program this summer. All campers, accompanied and guided by their counselors and

instructors, trained in CPR and First-aid, experience a range in activities geared appropriately for age groups. These

include: art, music, games, tennis, archery, survival skills, beach play, fort building, costumes and skits, soccer,

hockey, farming and food harvesting, tide-pooling, swimming (with lifeguards on duty) and boating in the Lagoon,

short or long hikes and nature-related discoveries at PRBO, Pine Gulch Creek, Martin Griffith Preserve, RCA Beach,

Mt. Tamalpais, Bass Lake, and Pt. Reyes Seashore. This year we’re focusing on our local native ancestors with lots

of fun, creative and informing activities for all campers. Contact: [email protected] phone: 415- 868-
