Good day to all our readers. I hope that everyone enjoyed Easter and the long weekends. This week I decided to place a light-hearted, feel-good story on the front page. In every community there is always so much good to report, and I firmly believe that hard-hitting, serious news should not be the only focus. I have met so many interesting people in Boksburg while working as editor these past two weeks. This week we will only have an online newspaper, but you can look out for a hard copy soon. I will be on leave this week, but my co-workers will be watching my e-mails, so if you have news, don’t hesitate to e-mail me.

On Wednesday 23 April the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality held a second public meeting for Boksburg residents to raise their concerns regarding community service delivery. The meeting formed part of the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for Boksburg. The IDP is a five-year plan through which the Ekurhuleni municipality aims improve each community through public participation. With the gained insight from each community, the municipality will plan, budget, allocate resources and make decisions based on the requirements put forward by the community. Some of the most popular concerns that were raised by Boksburg community members were:• Electricity problems in Impala Park: in March 2014 Impala Park residents had to live without electricity for nearly three days. In April there were a few more power outages that further enraged residents. “How are we going to cope when Eskom makes more cuts in winter? I am tired,” one of the residents said at the meeting. Other residents complained that the power outages are disruptive, but also dangerous, as some residents rely on respirators and no electricity for days on-end could be life-threatening. At the meeting the residents suggested that the municipality repairs the electricity cables, which they believe causes the frequent power failures.• The call centre being unavailable:

residents complained that the Ekurhuleni call centre does not meet its customer service objectives. The Ekurhuleni MMC (Member if the Mayoral Committee) Palisa Nkunjana, responded to this complaint and said that their biggest challenge is that the calls are not being responded to. The MMC explained that they are in the process of improving the call centre, but they need to speak to the different departments. The MMC asked that residents remain patient until May/ June when they aim to have the issues resolved.• Ward 33 complained that they have not had service delivery (such as sanitation, electricity and road upgrades) for almost 15 years. • A gentleman from Ward 42 said that road maintenance, especially with potholes, in Boksburg is a problem that needs to be addressed, as it affects community safety on the roads.• A few residents complained about the increase in household expenses, such as water and electricity. The residents want to know

how the municipality will spend the money and why an increase is needed.• Residents in Ward 33 complained that speeding on community roads must be better controlled by incorporating more speed bumps into the roads. They also suggested that existing ones in the area should be properly painted. Several children have died after being hit by cars in the roads. The municipality members who were present at the meeting have agreed that this will be on of their top priorities in the area. The MMC has assured that every concern raised at the meeting will be taken into account while drawing up the Integrated Development Plan for Boksburg.

The current 2013/2014 financial year capital budget for Boksburg is R50, 694, 293. The budget for each department in Boksburg is as follows:

• Energy: R5,000,000• Environmental Resources Management: R1,028,000• Health and Social Development: R7,116, 293• Real Estate: R3,700,000• Roads and Stormwater: R1,500,000• SRAC: R5,850,000• Transport: R19,500,000• Water and Sanitation: R7,000,000

Intensified Easter operations which commenced in earnest on Thursday (17 Apr) from midday in all the three operational regions of Ekurhuleni, have thus far resulted in the arresting of suspected drunken drivers, speedsters, pedestrians drinking in public and issuing of numerous citations for moving violations. Two fatalities have been recorded in Ekurhuleni since 17 April. One took place at 05h10 on Friday 18 April at the intersection

of Snake and Dube streets in Benoni and the other occurred at 05h30 on Sunday, 20 April at the intersection of North Rand and Rondebult in Boksburg. Road users have been, for the past weeks, reminded by way of education campaigns, of the importance of obeying the rules of the road in order to avoid unnecessary loss of limb and life. Static and roving roadblocks targeting hazardous locations in respect of accidents, smash-and-grabs and other crimes have been

the order of the day. Taverns were also targeted with the aim of ensuring that patrons don’t drink in public as well as making certain that they comply with the conditions of their permits.Twenty-three arrested suspected drunken drivers included thirteen in Vosloorus, four in Kempton Park, three in Daveyton and one in Kwa-Thema. Thirty speedsters were arrested in Brakpan, Benoni and Kempton Park areas. 434 fines were issued to motorists for exceeding the speed limit in locations identified as hazardous due to speeding. Overall, 1,123 speed fines were issued Ekurhuleni-wide. Twelve persons ended up behind bars for drinking in public (drinking and walking) in Kwa-Thema, two for being in possession of fake driving licenses and one for impersonating a police

officer. Officers are ready for the high volumes of traffic expected on our freeways coming into Ekurhuleni and those passing through. The monitoring of our main routes is underway and motorists are urged to travel within the speed limits, to observe safe following distance, to adjust their speed according to prevailing conditions, to exercise patience when caught in traffic snarl-ups and to generally be considerate to all other road users.

Time is one of the commodities business owners never seem to have enough of. One of the consequences of this is that their families suffer. Those that are able to devote sufficient time to their families usually complain that they never seem to have the time to take on new business opportunities. Whether it is time to take that long awaited holiday, time to spend with the family, market or systemise the business, there is never enough time to go around.

Q: How do successful people increase the value of their time?A: Successful People put a high value on their time. They don’t waste it. They realize that time is their most valuable asset, so they do everything they can to get maximum results.

In this article you’ll discover my top three tips on time-saving:1. Time is moneyThis means that the things you know - your skills, talents, knowledge, experience - have value and that someone is willing to pay you for them. When you’re not fully utilizing your God-given skills, talents, knowledge, and experience, you are indeed wasting money.2. Give Yourself an Extra Hour Each Day I have learnt very early in my life that when I’ve wanted to complete something that was very important to me, I would get up at 5:00 A.M. and work for an hour or longer before eating breakfast. To get up early and give yourself an extra hour of uninterrupted time each day will ensure that your mind is bright and alert, you have lots of energy,

your concentration level is high and most importantly, you’re highly motivated. 3. Do One More Thing Before You Call it a Day At the end of each day, look at your daily to-do list and do one more task. The concept of making one more phone call or completing one more task before calling it a day has helped me further my career in many ways. Since I started doing this I’ve reached hundreds of people who were still sitting at their desks at 5:30 P.M. The “gatekeeper” had gone home…so there was no one to screen their calls. And I’ve completed thousands of tasks that have enabled me to stay a couple of steps ahead of my competition.Get more things done during the course of the day, and you’ll have more time to chart your course which means you can really accomplish your goals - the ones you’ve only dreamed of achieving. ActionCOACH’s top time management tips• Set personal motivating goals• Don’t finish today until you planned tomorrow• Eat a frog for breakfast EVERY day…• Don’t major in minor things• Create a default diary / stick to it• Invest time don’t spend it• Have an agenda for all meetings• Learn to delegate to your team• Hire an ActionCOACH to keep you on trackSuccess Tip: Don’t put off till tomorrow what can be done today…because tomorrow may never come…right? For more information, contact business coach Elsa on 082 321 7704, or e-mail to [email protected].

The business owner and time mastery

Groetnis!

The annual Rand Show took place from 18 to 28 April 2014 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre Nasrec. Every year locals can look forward to a variety of fascinating entertainment, and this year was no different. From stunt-car drivers, to fascinating science demonstrations by the Naked Scientist, rollercoasters, live singers, bidding shows, and much more. One of the favourite stunt acts this year was the Pit Bull International Xtreme Motor Show.

These adrenalin-chasing Italian drivers had all the spectators biting their nails with suspense, as they did their stunts; at one stage they had a petite acrobat from the Ukraine placed in the middle of the track and drifted the sports cars around her. For the first time ever they also had four cars drifting on the track simultaneously, with volunteer passengers from the crowd inside the vehicles. SA’s strongest man and the helicopter rides were also among the highlights of the Rand Show this year.

out of the 12 rounds, but in the end, Avanesyan reclaimed his World

Boxing Council title in a very close fight. “My first four rounds were controlled

fighting. I did my best to come back after that. Twelve rounds are hectic. When

you are in there, it feels like 22 hours. I learnt to finish off. Next time I will prepare for knockout. It is all on points, so it is not easy to make it,” Mabuza explained.Even though Mabuza lost the fight, the Russians were very impressed with his boxing technique and invited Mabuza to come and fight against more of their top Russian boxers. “I will work hard and fight for another belt,” Mabuza said.
