Task Card 1

• Media messages about body shape and size will affect the way we feel about ourselves and our bodies only if we let them. One of the ways we can protect our self-esteem and body image from the media's often narrow definitions of beauty and acceptability is to become a critical viewer of the media messages we are bombarded with each day. When we effectively recognize and analyze the media messages that influence us, we remember that the media's definitions of beauty and success do not have to define our self-image or potential.

• Challenge: Divide a paper board in a half and then paste in one half of it at least 12 women that appear in it. In the other half paste the photos of your female relative and friends.

• Reflection question: At the bottom of you will write down the answer to this question: “Do the the women of the magazines look like the women around you?”

Teens seem to don't care about their eating habits and their priorities are more with friends, sports and homework. Adolescence is also a time of rapid growth and development that makes healthy eating habits even more important. That's why is so important that teenagers are encouraged to make nutritious food choices.

• Challenge: Plan a menu for a day! Using the MyPyramid Poster you should plan a healthy menu that include breakfast, lunch, after-school snack, dinner or bedtime snack.
