The configuration of analogue sensors, in addition to the hardware configuration, also needs a software configuration. This configuration can be performed in two ways:

Standard configuration

Configuration performed for the standard sensors and/or as digital inputs; in this case it is only necessary to select, among the available choices, the sensor type to enable.

Special configuration

To offer the possibility to use all sensors (impedance, voltage and/or current) present in the market, we implemented the special configuration of the analogue inputs. This, together or not with a signal transducer (only voltage and/or current) allows, for some analogue input, to customize the conversion curve of the generic sensor.

Follow the indications of the sensor producer to better define the curve of measure, the decimal digits and the points of resolution desired.

Following, an example of curve of a sensor with input with voltage 0..5V named “OIL LEVEL”:

1) Select the generic device.

2) Select the file “New” if you desire to create a new sensor or if it is not present in the file

“Sensors”. Select “Open” if the file of the “sensorname.sns” has already been saved in the PC or you want to use a compliant one, available in the file “Sensors”.

3) Click on “+” or “-“ to add or remove the points of resolution of the curve.

INFORMATION! If the sensor is linear, only 2 points are sufficient. The more points are added to the curve, the higher the resolution.

After creating the sensor, it is possible to save it, “Save” , for a future use and/or transmit it to the card.

The digits “In the PC” and “In the card” allow the view of the sensor, respectively to be transmitted and after transmitting.

Page 11: BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual

10 BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual

INFORMATION! The sensor configuration follows the same rules used for the parameters in reading and writing, that is, if we transmit a sensor configuration to the card, this last will overwrite the previous configuration. Before overwriting, we suggest to save eventual sensors present in the card. To save the sensor configuration of the card, press “Save” and name the sensor with *.sns extension.

For the analogue sensor, two thresholds of intervention are available with possibility to define, through a bit combination, the sequence to use when a threshold is detected.

Selecting with double click the “Configuration” boxes, a window will open where possible to flag one or more intervention sequences.

After selecting, click “OK” to confirm.

INFORMATION! Only available for some model of devices.

The value “AND/OR0103-Logics” allows to configure, through a Boolean logic, the digital outputs depending on one or more status conditions in a given event. The possibility to use the AND or OR ports and their relative negation (NOT) on the single status condition, allows to satisfy the most part of the requests. For each configuration up to 30 logic blocks are available.

INFORMATION! It is not possible to use contemporarily more than one AND or OR logic operations for the same output.

In the following example, we configured an output with AND logic and 4 logic blocks with n. 4 logic condition inverted.

For the logic configuration it is necessary to select the “AND/OR 0103-Logic” in the functions connected to the “Digital outputs”.

Page 12: BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual

BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual 11

In the above example, we configured a digital input, which will be available if all conditions are satisfied.

1 – If the device is in AUTO mode.

2 – If the engine is started.

3 – If the generator voltage is in tolerance.

4 – It there are not cumulative pre-alarms (Box denied).

The selectable and available conditions are shown in the window relative to the single block.

To configure the digital output with 0103 value, select the icon “+” (add) to open the choice window and thus define the condition and the event status.

Click on icon “+” to expand the under menu, select the status condition to be used and click on

“OK” to confirm or “Cancel” to delete the operation.

INFORMATION!: Some status conditions might be not available: “Digital inputs”, “Digital Outputs”, “Alarms” and “Thresholds on measures Status” if not configured in the plant and/or not available..

It automatically checks the software update and, if necessary, updates the software installed in the PC.

It interrupts the communication with the device, if active, and closes the program BoardPRG3.

In this menu, it is possible to define the parameters of communication between the PC and the device.

We remark that the current PCs have not serial ports, so that it is necessary a Serial adaptor RS232/USB or, for more recent devices, only the USB cable for peripherals. If you use the Serial adaptor RS232/USB or directly the virtual USB, it is important to correctly notice which serial port is correctly assigned to the interface.

1) From menu COMMUNICATION, by selecting “Select communication resource”, a window “Communication resources” opens, which allows to select the resource (serial port or Ethernet) to be used for the connection. We remark that the eventual USB/SERIAL RS232 adaptor will have to be connected before the program is started.

2) Select the resource meant to be used so that the corresponding box is ticked. When the resource is highlighed

(normally in BLUE) ,press the button CONFIGURE to set the communication parameters (this activity is not significant if you select Ethernet communication).

Page 22: BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual

BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual 21

3) Select the speed (Bits per second = Baudrate) in the same way as set in the controller.

The other fields have to be configured as in the picture (unless they have been modified at controller level).

Below the default parameters are shown:

The program can communicate with the controllers through serial port or Ethernet or virtual USB (virtual serial RS232).

Then select from COMMUNICATIONS the voice “Select the serial address”.

If you chose the communication via serial port, only the first line (the one containing the address) will be modifiable. Instead, if you chose the ETHERNET communication, the other fields will be modifiable.

In case of ETHERNET communication, it is usually enough to set only the “IP address” box. Leave the other data as per default.

Activate the connection through the selected serial or Ethernet port. Check the correct data

exchange through the message counter, which is in the bottom right of the window:

A correct communication will return the increase of positive packets, number on the left of the bar “/”, leaving the number on the right of the bar “/” to 0.

Page 23: BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual

It deactivates the communication between the serial port with the device, so allowing to modify the communication settings and/or to use other softwares using the same serial port.

Pressing the button “Read” (from keyboard: “CTRL+R”) a command confirmation window will open up to proceed with the reading of the parameters configuration. Confirm “Yes” to proceed or “No” to cancel.

After the confirmation to proceed and, when the reading of the parameters in the device has finished, these parameters will be shown in the column “In the device”.

INFORMATION! This procedure permanently overwrites the parameters currently saved in the device. We recommend to read the procedure at paragraph “Parameters Configuration” carefully before activating the function “transmit”.

Pressing the button “Transmit” (from keyboard: “CTRL+W”) a command confirmation window will open up providing the transmission of the parameters configuration. Confirm “Yes” to proceed or “No” to cancel.

After the confirmation to proceed, the data transmission of the modified parameters is performed in the column “In the PC” on device “In the device”.

Page 24: BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual

BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual 23

INFORMATION! The modification and the transmission of the parameters is subject to password level, inserted in the device and validated in the box “access code”. Further information at paragraph “Access code”.

When the transmission has finished, if the parameters have been modified, the two columns will be aligned with the same values and there will be no highlighted differences, either on the structure tree (on the top left), or in the cells of the columns with some highlighted zones.

To modify the parameters values, before transmitting them, it is necessary to copy the parameters from device to PC, respectively from the left column “Nel dispositivo” a quella di destra “Nel PC”. Cliccare il pulsante “Copia” e confermare con “Si” per procedere alla copia dei valori dal dispositivo o “No” per annullare la copia.

If you chose to copy the configuration, the software will align the values from column “In the device” to column “In the PC”.

Clicking the button “Default” it is possible to upload in the column “In the PC” the basic parameters usually inserted as a default program. This function allows a comparison between

Page 25: BoardPrg 3.xx User's Manual
