The age that mostly answered our survey was 16 -19 year olds. This means that when we make the music video we have to make sure that it relates to 16 – 19 years old more, whether it makes them cry, laugh or inspire them, we have to make sure the video can be related by 16 - 19 year olds. Another age group we have to allow the video to relate too is 20 – 25 , this is helpful because it allows us to give a more realistic and adult understanding about a situation.

The majority of answers were from females. The artist/band we have chosen are male however in order to appeal to our female audience we will make sure there is (as close as possible) a gender balance with female characters in our narrative. Additionally, our female audience may be attracted by a male artist as stereotypically females like and are fans of male artists and bands.

From the survey that we did, we have seen that rural is the number one setting that the audience would like to see in our music video. Similarly, woods was another setting that the audience is most eager to see be included in our video. We will use these results to make the video as suitable to the audience and cooperate their ideas within the video.

Love was the main theme that the audience would like to see in our video, therefore we will base our idea around the theme of love and work with it to fit with our main idea. This theme is easy to work with and we have the ability to make a detailed video with the film.

The participants in our survey have said that they would like to see 1. a performance video and 2. a narrative video. Our idea, which we will outline in our pitch, will involve a narrative story with a performance element to make it flow. The inspiration we have drawn for our music video is PIXAR’s UP (2009). By doing our video in this manner, we appealing to around 75% of our target audience.

By looking at our results from question 6 it appears that the artists the audience prefers are solo artists – Ed Sheeran and George Ezra had an overall rank of two and three collectively. However by looking at question 8 we can see that over 60% of participants want to see a band not a solo artist. So therefore to combat this we need to make sure the band we choose are styled to look like Ed Sheeran and George Ezra or choose a band that have a similar style.

Mumford and Sons are an Indie Band who share the same style and appearance as Ed Sheeran and George Ezra. If we choose this band, we will be giving the audience a band as requested and the style they prefer.

The results of this question are question are clearly that the audience would prefer to see an artist that that identifies as female (or indeed ‘other’) as opposed to a male artist with collectively 75% of the participants chose the former as opposed to 25% who chose the latter. In practice it is hard for us to find an actor who identifies as other for our music video so we will try to have a gender balance in our video whether the artist is male or female so we can please and reach a larger audience.

Our target audience participants said that they would prefer to see a music video featuring a band for our main task with 26 votes and 62% of the vote. When we are planning our main task we will take this into consideration however even if we choose a song by a band whether the audience sees the band in the video itself will depend on whether we choose to do a performance video.

We asked our audience what type of clothing our audience would like to see in the video. The majority of the participants said they would like to see ‘quirky and original/bright colours’ clothing with 45.5% of the vote (20 votes out of 44). The bright and original/quirky clothing fits well with the indie genre we have decided to go for which means that this is a part of muse-en-scene we are likely to use in our main task.

Example in the music industry (indie genre): Emma Blackery ‘Sucks to be You’

Most of the participants of our survey said that the reason they watch music videos is for the story of the video with a large majority of 36% of the votes. Therefore this means when we make our music video we should focus on the ability to convey a story through the audio and visuals as it is what our audience prefer.
