WelcomeTo the Provincial Industry Disability Employment Summit 2016
This annual industry event, in support of the employment of people with disability in the formal economy, aims to bring some knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities to you and your colleagues; while also we hope that you’ll come away from the Summit feeling you got the benefit of:
• Unique access to specialist thought-leaders in disability employment and human capital, who offer world-class business intelligence and insights applicable in a local corporate context;
• Providing you with access to meet and network with your industry peers;• Awareness of the work happening in the disability sector and for meeting the supply of peo-
ple with disability for employment in the formal economy;• New connections for industry peers and industry partners, who you can work with in future
projects for disability employment.• Finally, we hope that this Summit (and others like it) can contribute to the process of bringing
the private, public and disability sectors together for future collaboration and socio-economic success in the employment of people with disability.
We’d like to say a BIG ‘Thank You’ to TFG (The Foschini Group) for kindly hosting today’s event. Both for their so generously providing this venue and such awesome facilities, as well as for their hospitality in making everyone attending the Summit today feel so welcome. This generosity and support, by TFG, of the Summit (and the employment of people with disability) is greatly appreciated by the DEF and, we’re sure, by everyone attending today’s event.
We’d also like to thank all of today’s guest-speakers and all the participants of the Industry Employer Panel-Discussion, including practitioners from: TFG, Spur Group, Capfin, Virgin Active, & Vodacom.
Today, the focus of the Summit is:
• What are the barriers and challenges for disability employment (& economic empower-ment). Primarily, we’ll take a business perspective (as that’s where many of the jobs are, so to speak); but we’ll also consider the perspective of the supply-side of the sector (including: NPOs, B2B suppliers and people with disabilities in the labour market).
• What jobs does business have for disability employment at their organisations (and what additional roles and careers might be suitable for disability employment with the right knowl-edge, resources, and support)?
• What do corporate employers need from supply, in order to make it a reality that they can employ more people with disability at their companies?
• How can we grow the number of people with disability in the formal employment sector, as well as to contribute to their economic empowerment?
However, just as the world isn’t ‘flat’ (the reality of geography and socio-economics have something to say about that!), nor is the approach, needs and experiences of all organisations equal (in all regions and all sectors) when it comes to Disability Employment!
That’s why at this year’s Summit we’ve scheduled representatives, topics and presentations from across a broad range of corporate employers, supply-side organisations and sectors. All of them address the matter of disability employment, whether it’s with an emphasis on the medical and social context of particular disability or more about the details of disability employment best practice.
Throughout the day, we also have lots of breakaway sessions and activities happening during the Coffee & Networking break-times, some of which we hope you find informative and others you find fun. (Refer to the AGENDA for more about these break-time sessions and activities.)
The DEF (Disability Employment Forum) is a disability sector committee, formed by many of the key decision-makers and stakeholders representing the disability sector. It was formed three years ago, after the first Provincial Industry Disability Summit in Cape Town, in order for the disability sector (and other sectors too) to collaborate in addressing the challenges and opportunities of disability employment in South Africa.
Blueprint 3.0 serves on the DEF committee and has been responsible for arranging and managing all aspects of this year’s Summit. For more about Blueprint 3.0, see our website: www.blueprint3.co.za
We hope that you enjoy today’s industry Summit and, when you leave at the end of the day, you feel that you got value from attending.
But, for now, lean back and enjoy the guest-speaker presentations, the industry panel-discussions, the Breakaway Sessions & Activities, and networking.
And, remember, when you get an opportunity during the presentations and networking, please tweet about your experience of the Summit on Twitter at:
(And Summit Networking Selfies on Twitter are most welcome!)

Blueprint 3.0: Who We Are & What We’re About
Blueprint 3.0 was born out of a moment of clarity: a renegade belief that smart and talented professionals can put a dent in the universe by solving anything we set our hearts and minds to achieve.
We deliver the best of both worlds for our clients in a way that is as real as it gets. We do this by applying our team’s smarts to solving any of our clients’ 99 problems as elegantly as possible. It’s our way of creating a little bit more sunshine for SA’s employers and the labour market.
How We Solve Your 99 Problems & Add Some Sunshine:
We apply our expertise and know-how to helping our clients in the following ways:
• Human capital strategy and solutions: We assist our clients in a wide array of HR related challenges, while we particularly enjoy helping them with talent - talent attraction / acquisition, talent develop-ment, and talent management.
• Talent attraction marketing and (lean) digital content creation: We assist our clients develop their talent acquisition function to meet Web 2.0 trends and best practice. We help employers (especially their HR/Recruitment Team) with the following digital talent attraction functions:
• Set-up &/or enhance their talent attraction digital-footprint
• Develop a visual and comprehensive strategy for their digital talent attraction, including their channel-management & content-creation functions
• Create and produce high quality client branded multimedia digital content (on a lean budget) for them to post online to promote their brand and jobs in order to attract and engage the top talent in the local labour market
• Provide digital talent-community management services on their digital platforms, in a way that increases end-user engagement and followers
• Once we’ve got this all up-&-running, we then help our clients capacity-build these skills and functions, in order that they can bring them in-house (as part of their HR/Recruitment Team). We do this in a way that facilitates them to be able to maintain this high value function in-house while being within a sustainable budget over the medium to long-term
In short, we help you build your digital talent attraction function from scratch (or enhance your existing digital talent attraction footprint), then we assist you with the skills-transfer and handover – all so that you can bring this function in-house and run it effectively over the medium to long-term.
And, we do this in a way that minimizes the pain and anxiety and risk to you, while providing a new (and sustainable) ‘string to the bow’ of your talent acquisition tool-kit. [Apologies for mangling our metaphors there.]
• Strategy, surveys & research: We like strategy! This is because we believe that good strategy makes all the difference in everything that follows thereafter (when executing and operationalizing the work itself). Good strategy (versus bad strategy) is the difference between long-term success versus mediocre results or failure.
We’ve worked on strategy at industry, organisational and departmental levels, as well as across sectors and disciplines.
We’ve conceived, drafted and created strategies for:
• BPESA, the BPO & Contact-Centre industry body: we wrote their current industry skills development strategy
• DEDT, WCG (the department for economic development): we wrote the Provincial multi-sector career awareness strategy for the Western Cape Government & the Premier’s Skills Forum (the PSF)
• Several corporate organisational and departmental strategies for digital talent attraction and acquisi-tion, both for employers and for staffing suppliers
• Currently, we’re assisting the disability sector with a skills and supply-side strategy to address disabil-ity employment in SA
• In terms of research and surveys, we worked on many varied projects and research papers, includ-ing on: local and international labour market trends and demographics (including for disability em-ployment); how consumer adoption of digital media and mobile computing is changing good talent acquisition & talent management strategy / best practice; industry salary surveys; new trends in career awareness and mapping strategy / best practice; how digital tech’ and media are disrupting traditional HR and employee engagement models; industry and organisational staff absenteeism and attrition trends (as well as employee engagement and retention strategy / best practice); Gen-Y/Mil-lennials in the world-of-work; amongst many other interesting human capital topics and themes.
So, you can see that we like finding elegant and clear solutions to complex challenges, incloding for any one of the 99 problems facing our clients! If you’d like to find out more about Blueprint 3.0, then contact us directly at: [email protected] Or call us at: 076 613 9645
