Penance Service for the Opening of the Year of Mercy
A Deanery-wide Penance Service for the Opening of the Year
of Mercy will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on Sunday,
Dec. 13th. The Service will include the unusual Rite of the
Opening of the Holy Year Door of Mercy which will lead to the
Adoration Chapel. Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski will be the
Celebrant and Homilist. As the Holy Father, Pope Francis is
solemnly opening the Holy Door in Rome, and thus ushering in
this Holy Year of Mercy so Bishop Rozanski will open our
Franklin County Holy Door to usher in the Holy Year here.
Following the tradition of a Holy Year “A Plenary Indulgence
is granted to all faithful who prayerfully enter the Holy Door and
with the usual conditions for a Plenary Indulgence (sacramental
confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer in keeping with
the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff, with the soul completely
removed from attachment to any form of sin). In addition a
Plenary Indulgence may be gained each and every time an
individual participates attentively and piously in a sacred
function or a devotional exercise undertaken in honor of the
Blessed Sacrament, solemnly exposed and conserved in the
tabernacle.”
Infant Jesus of Prague Novena December 17th through December 25th
Miraculous Infant Jesus, prostrate before Your
sacred image, we beseech You to cast a merciful
look on our troubled hearts. Let your tender heart
so inclined to pity be softened by our prayers, and
grant us that grace for which we ardently implore
___. Take from us all affliction and despair, all
trials and misfortunes with which we are laden.
For Your sacred infancy’s sake hear our prayers and send us
consolation and aid, that we may praise You with the Father and
the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen!
ALTERNATIVES Gifts for the Manger
As we remember the Infant Jesus in the Manger, please remember
the women in unplanned pregnancies and their babies who are
made in the image of Jesus. The generous parishioners of Blessed
Sacrament are again sponsoring “Gifts for the Manger” to support
the work of ALTERNATIVES Pregnancy Center. A list of items
needed by the mothers, babies, or by the office staff to do their
work is next to the manger. Choose a gift from the list, wrap it
up in any kind of pretty paper, put a tag on the gift to describe its
contents and place it in the manger. These gifts will help
ALTERNATIVES continue to be a presence in Franklin and
Hampshire Counties, reaching out to women who are lonely,
afraid, desperate, and in need of emotional and material support.
Please pray every day for these mothers, babies and staff of
ALTERNATIVES. Thank you!
Holy Hour for the Sick and Dying
A Holy Hour is observed each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
in the Adoration Chapel at Blessed Sacrament Church. Included
are the singing of hymns, recitation of the Rosary, and the Chaplet
of Divine Mercy for the Sick and the Dying. The hour concludes
with Benediction. If you know of someone who is ailing and in
need of special graces and prayer, come and spend an hour
for his/her intention.
Living Nativity
The San Damiano Group and youth from the Basilica of St.
Stanislaus, will host Greccio in Chicopee - A Living Nativity,
taking place at The Basilica of St. Stanislaus B. & M. in Chicopee
on Sunday, December 27th at 5 p.m. See the birth of Our Lord
through the humble eyes of St. Francis, as he recreates the first
Nativity. This presentation is based on the story of St. Francis’
Nativity on the mountain top of Greccio, Italy; a little town close
to Assisi. This presentation will include LIVE ANIMALS and acting
by the youth of St. Stanislaus Parish. This event is free and open
to the public. Following the event, there will be a reception at the
Parish Hall and coats and winter garments will be collected for
the homeless. Please join us for this great presentation and
rediscover the real meaning of the Christmas season through
Christ’s birth in the Manger. For more information, please call
the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 413-594-6669, or Joseph Dziok
at 413-221-8315.

O
Advent Wreath Prayers for Home
THE THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT: JOY
Leader: The third candle of Advent is the Candle of Joy. It reminds us of the joy that Mary felt when the angel
Gabriel told her that a special child would be born to her - a child who would save and deliver his people.
VOICE: God wants us all to have joy. The angel who announced to the
shepherds that Jesus had been born told them: "Do not be afraid. I am bringing
you good news of great joy for all people - for to you is born this day, in the
City of David, a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord." We light this candle to
remember that He is the bringer of true and everlasting joy.
(Light Advent Candle Three - Pink)
Leader: Let us pray - Loving God, we thank you for the joy you bring us. Help us prepare our hearts for this
gift. Bless our worship. Help us to hear and to do your word. We ask it in the name of the one born in
Bethlehem, Jesus our Lord. Amen.
The Great “O Antiphons” of Advent
On the evening of December 17 the final phase of preparation for Christmas begins with the first of the great
"O Antiphons" of Advent. These prayers are seven jewels of liturgical song, one for each day until Christmas Eve.
They seem to sum up all our Advent longing for the Savior.
O Sapientia or O Wisdom (December 17)
O Wisdom (Eccl 24: 5), You came forth from the mouth of the Most High (Sir 24: 30), and reaching from
beginning to end You ordered all things mightily and sweetly (Wis 8:1). Come, and teach us the way of
prudence (Isa 40: 14).
O Adonai or O Lord and Ruler (December 18)
O Adonai (Exod 6: 13) and Ruler of the house of Israel (Matt 2: 6), You appeared to Moses in the fire of the
burning bush (Exod 3:2) and on Mount Sinai gave him Your Law (Exod 20). Come, and with an outstretched
arm redeem us (Jer 32:21).
O Radix Jesse or O Root of Jesse (December 19)
O Root of Jesse, You stand for the ensign of mankind (Isa 11:10); before You kings shall keep silence and to
You all nations shall have recourse (Isa 52:15). Come, save us, and do not delay (Hab 2: 3).
O Clavis David or O Key of David (December 20)
O Key of David, (Apoc 3: 7) and Scepter of the house of Israel: You open and no man closes; you close and no
man opens (Isa 22:22). Come, and deliver him from the chains of prison who sits in darkness and in the shadow
of death (Ps 107:10).
O Oriens or O Rising Dawn or Morning Star (December 21)
O Rising Dawn, (Zac 6:12), Radiance of the Light eternal (Hab 3:4) and Sun of Justice (Mal 3:20): Come, and
enlighten those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death (Ps 107:10; Lk 1:78).
O Rex Gentium or O King of the Nations (December 22)
O King of the Gentiles (Hag 2:8), and the Desired of all, You are the Cornerstone that binds two into one (Eph
2: 20). Come, and save man whom You fashioned out of clay (Gen 2:7).
O Emmanuel (December 23)
O Emmanuel (Isa 7: 14; 8: 8), our King and Lawgiver (Gen 49:10; cf. Ezek 21:32), the Expected of the nations
and their Savior (Isa 33:22): Come, and save us, O Lord our God.
