The basics of the cloth simulator

How to simulate a realistic hanging towel

Use the particle system to create fluffy fur

Ever wonder why so many architectural interiors look cold and uninviting? Everythings hard. You wouldnt want to livein a house filled entirely with hard surfaces, so its no wonder were repulsed when seeing them in renders.

Fabric helps contrasts hard surfaces with flowing soft, comforting material. If youre finished an interior and theres no

organic surfaces (soft, flowing shapes) then add some.

In this tutorial Ill show the tips and tweaks to get nice fluffy towels that complement your scene instead of detractingfrom it.

    Final Result

The techniques in the tutorial can be used for creating pretty much any soft fabric; tablecloths, blankets, silk bedding etc.Go nuts

    Creating the Towel

    1. Start a new scene. Delete all the default objects and replace with a Plane. Scale it double along the X axis(S>X>2).

    2. In edit mode, add a vertical loop cut in the middle of the Plane, so that the faces are even.

    3. Subdivide the Plane (W>Subdivide) and in the toolbar set it to 50 cuts:

    4. Go back to Object Mode, enable Cloth under the Physics panel, then check Pinning.

I nailed it on the first try. Keep up the good work Mr. Price. Here is my result.

Five is better than one, a bit tricky to copy frames from the same simulation for the variations, but it

can be done with the corrective shape keys.

OK, after wondering why my Blender crashed it looks like it was the fault of the Bump node. Got rid of

it and it doesn't crash now but now my "stripes" are textureless :/ Oh well, I'm still a noob with bump

    and normal maps anyway.

Hope you guys like what I've done with it! Even though my computer can't handle more particles than

    this, I am pretty content!

(The tiles are 100% 3D and improvised, there is no texture in this image what so ever.)

By some odd reason, I can't render my final result :( Every time I hit F12 I get this at the console before

it freezes and closes. What does it means it can't synchronize the object? I tried to open a new file and

append the towel only but it only freezes when I point the camera straight at the towel itself then it

    freezes.

I'm not sure, but I think that you don't have enough RAM to store all

the hair particles. Try to lower the child particles a bit maybe? Also,

if you are rendering with GPU, try with CPU rendering
