Introduction

The Black Box is a Flight Recorder used to record specific Aircraft performance parameters

Inside the black-box

Flight Data Recorder (FDR)

Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)

6

Flight Data Recorders

The Flight Data Recorder(FDR) is designed to record the operating data

from the plane’s systems

Page 7: Black box1

• Time • Pressure altitude • Airspeed • Vertical acceleration • Rudder-pedal position • Control-wheel position • Horizontal stabilizer • Fuel flow

Few Parameters Recorded By Most FDRs

Cockpit Voice Recorder

CVR is designed to track the conversations of flight crew

Technology Used For Recording And Storage

Magnetic tape

Solid-state technology

Memory Boards

Magnetic tape recorder Solid state recorder• Introduced in the

1960s• It can track about 100

parameters.

• Magnetic-Tape CVRs store the last 30 minutes of sound.

• Introduced in the 1990s

• It can track more than 700 parameters in larger aircraft.

• CVRs that used solid-state storage can record 2 hours of audio.

Built To Survive• In many airline accidents, the only devices that Survive are the Crash-survivable memory units (CSMUs) of the flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders.• Typically, the rest of the recorders’ chassis and inner components are mangled.

Testing a CSMUThere are several tests that make up the crash-survival sequence:

Crash impact Pin drop Static crush Fire test Deep-sea submersion Salt-water submersion Fluid immersion

Underwater Locator Beacon (ULB)

Submergence sensor on the side of the beacon.

Pulses at 37.5 kilohertz (kHz).

sound as deep as 14,000 feet (4,267 m).

The beacon cannot be heard by the human ear but can be easily detected by sonar. 15

Retrieving Information

This portable interface can allow investigators quick access to the data on a black box..

Retrieval of FDR Retrieval of CVR Once the beacon begins

"pinging," it pings once per second for 30 days.

16

Use of Black Box

• Retrieval comes first.• Help identify the reasons for a plane crash.

“Mistakes are a great educator when one is honest enough to admit them and willing to learn from them”

17

This black box alone was left to tell the story of the crash of Egypt Air Flight 990.

Challenges….!

20

Page 21: Black box1

• From the study of Black Box we derived a information that how the information about aircraft mishap is analyzed & unanswered question is answered.

• The black box was good, in its time .• Let’s pray for safe Journey.• The U.S. government's Next Generation Air

Transportation System, is now to take up the challenge.
