Dear parents,

Welcome to December’s

Newsletter. This month’s

edition was assigned to me,

Dimitra Maravelaki (BA in

Greek Philology and MRes

in Modern Greek Studies)

and I am one of the newest

additions to our school. I am

really delighted that I am given

the opportunity to create this

month’s Christmas Edition of our

newsletter. I our school I teach

year 1 and 2. Given the

opportunity that am given

through this newsletter, I

would like to

wish you all

Happy and

Exciting Holidays

and may 2019, be a

wonderful year for all

of you!

December has been an exciting

month full of Christmas events

and activities! Firstly, students

from all the branches participated

in our Christmas School

Production which took place in

our school on Sunday the 16th of

December.

The school staff and management

board of our school celebrated

together at the Greek Restaurant

Ulysses under festive and

Christmas mood. One of the

highlights of this month was also

our charity event, co-organised by

the Respiratory and Cystic

Fibrosis Unit of Birmingham’s

Children Hospital, hosted in our

school in Erdington on Monday,

10 of December.

Every Christmas, the Greek School

of Ayia Triada organises a number

of charity events in order to

support vulnerable members of

our society not only in

Birmingham but also in Greece

and Cyprus. This year, we invited

parents, guardians and children

themselves to create their own

charity shoeboxes with items for

school, hygiene items, clothing to

help children of all ages in poverty

and refugees. The participation

was exceptional and we sent a

big number of charity shoeboxes

to the Cypriot Youth Organisation

NEPOMAK.

We are more than glad that this

year, as always, the members of

our school-the parents, guardians

and children themselves- were

there to contribute to our charity

work.

On the 10th of December we were

more than glad for hosting Mrs

Joanna Bennet in our branch in

Erdington. Mrs Bennet presented

the distinguished work and

services of the Cystic Fibrosis Unit

of Birmingham’s Children

Hospital. Pupils of year 6 and 7

attended the presentation and had

an interesting conversation with

Mrs Bennet about the Lung

Function ward, a day unit that

helps children with health issues.

For one week, children and staff

from all our branches were

wearing their Christmas Jumpers

and donating money to support

the Birmingham’s Children

Hospital.

During our Saturday assemblies

in Erdington, students learnt

about Christmas customs from all

over Greece and Cyprus,

presented by Miss Dimitra

Maravelaki. In addition, children

from all our branches engaged to

a lot of fun Christmas Activities!

Mr Papadopoulos shared with

year 8 his experience from the

period of dictatorship in

Thessaloniki. Also, he gave us

important and unpublished

documents for the school archive.

His memories about his life in

exile were amazing and children

had the chance to ask him

questions about it. We owe a

huge thank you to Mrs Mina

Christodoulidi and the whole

family!
