Why is it Important to see the Big Picture?
Jesus often gave word pictures to help us
understand the Kingdom of God.
The Kingdom of God is like…
•a farmer who sowed seed• treasure hidden in a field•a net that caught many kinds of fish• the landowner who hired workers• the King who gave a wedding
banquet for His Son
Interpreting Scripture:
1. What did it mean to the hearers in that day?
2. What does it mean to us today?
v. 19 Kingdom of God is like…
…a mustard seed which grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.
What did it mean then?
•Ezekiel 31:3-6
•Daniel 4:20-22
•Ezekiel 17:22-24
Why a Mustard Tree…
…and not a Cedar?
What about today?
God is hosting an Olympic-type event!
v.21 Kingdom of God is like…
…yeast that a woman took and mixed in a large amount of flour.
What did it mean then?
•½ a hundred weight•3 large measures•A large amount
How much flour was that?
