DeStress Fest

The library is happy to announce that we will be hosting our semesterly DeStress Fest

at the library during the week prior to finals (November 26-30). The goal of this event is

to ensure that our students have a place to decompress from the high levels of stress

that finals can bring. Therapy dogs from Miracle Mutts will kick off the week from 10am-

2pm in the library lobby on November 26.

In addition, the library will have puzzles, coloring pages, word games, and origami for

students to destress with during the entirety of the week. Please let your students know

that this resource exists for them as their stress levels amp up at the end of November.

Get out the BC Vote: A Recap

Librarian Laura Luiz conceptualized and executed 3 different Get Out the BC Vote events on the Panorama and Delano campuses during the month of October. The goal of these events was to help students and community members understand the local ballot measures, and to help them register to vote.

The League of Women Voters of Kern County presented during the first event, Robert Price of the Bakersfield Californian presented during the second event, and Bryan Osorio, candidate for Delano City Council, presented during the Delano event.

We are delighted that students attended these workshops, and we hope that they have been helpful.

Laura created a Get Out the BC Vote LibGuide that we encourage all faculty to use in the days leading up to November 6. The LibGuide features help for the state and local ballot as well as instructions on how to register to vote and how to find your polling location. Find the LibGuide at bakersfieldcollege.libguides .com/GetOutBCVote2018

How the Library Can Help You

We wanted to remind our great faculty colleagues of a few of our newer services, as well as some of our more established services you may have forgotten about.

Online Library Workshops via Canvas

The library began offering its workshops online through Canvas this semester. Faculty may embed any or all of the 7 different modules into their own courses. These modules were primarily made with our online classes in mind, although any faculty are welcome to use them. Contact a librarian with any questions you might have about this service.

Video Tutorials

Have you visited our YouTube page recently? The gracevdblibrary YouTube channel has been blowing up with new videos from librarian Mindy Wilmot. We now offer a Research 101 series that introduces viewers to research and to searching different databases offered by the library. You can find the videos at: www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/library/workshops

Cerro Visiting Author

Our Cerro Visiting Author this year is Temple Grandin! She will be on campus on February 12, 2019, to present on her work regarding autism and animal behavior. To prepare for her visit, the library will offer free copies of her books Thinking in Pictures and Animals Make Us Human at the start of Spring 2019.
