Professor Yike Guo, received a first-class honor degree in computing science from TsinghuaUniversity,China,in1985,andhisPh.D.incomputationallogicfromImperialCollegeLondonin1993.Hisresearchfocus is intheareaofbigdataanalyticswithbroadapplicationtoscience,engineering,andmedicineusingdataminingandmachinelearningtechnology.Guohasservedin leadership roles at two corporations—CEO at InforSense, a spinout company of ImperialCollegeLondonthathefounded,andchiefinnovationofficeratIDBSLimited,anworldleadingcompanyinscientificdatamanagement—thathavetransformedhisresearchachievementsintotechnologyproductsthathavemorethan50,000usersworldwide.In2017,hewasnamedoneofthe10mostinfluentialdatascientistinChina.

Dr.JamilSalmiisaglobaltertiaryeducationexpertprovidingpolicyadviceandconsultingservicesto governments, universities, professional associations, multilateral development banks andbilateralcooperationagencies.UntilJanuary2012,hewastheWorldBank’stertiaryeducationcoordinator.HewrotethefirstWorldBankpolicypaperonhighereducationreformin1994andwastheprincipalauthoroftheBank’s2002TertiaryEducationStrategyentitled,“ConstructingKnowledge Societies: New Challenges for Tertiary Education."During the past twenty-threeyears,Dr.Salmihasprovidedadviceontertiaryeducationdevelopment,financingreformsandstrategicplanningtogovernmentsanduniversityleadersinabout95countriesallovertheworld.Dr.Salmi’s2009bookaddressesTheChallengeofEstablishingWorld-ClassUniversities.His2011book,co-editedwithProfessorPhilAltbach,wasentitledTheRoadtoAcademicExcellence:TheMaking of World-Class Research Universities. His latest book, Tertiary Education and theSustainableDevelopmentGoals,waspublishedinAugust2017.

Dr.NithBunlay

AfterreturningfromHiroshimaUniversity,Japanin2005withhisPhDinLanguageandCultureEducation, Dr. Nith Bunlay founded and directed Graduate Program of Education at Royal

UniversityofPhnomPenh.Inlate2011,hewaspromotedtobetheDeputyDirectorGeneralofHigher Education and has since been actively involved in developing and monitoring theimplementationofpoliciesandstrategiesofhighereducationsub-sector.SupportingtheHigherEducation Quality and Capacity Improvement Project, Dr. Nith plans and leads all highereducationcapacitydevelopmentprogramsincludingorganizingin-countryworkshops,sendinguniversityfacultytopostgraduatesstudies,andtomanyworkshopsandconferencesabroad.Some of the focus of the capacity building activities are higher education administration,leadership,researchpromotion,agriculturaleducationandtraining,andSTEMeducation.Asforhis involvement in academic society, Dr. Nith founded Cambodia Society for Research andDevelopment (CSRD) and is currently the the Secretary General of that society. Dr. Nith hasparticular interests in Curriculum Development, Human Resource Development, ProfessionalDevelopment, InternationalizationofHigherEducation,StudentMobility,andCreditTransfer.Forhisvoluntaryexperiences,hehasbeenactivelyinvolvedinCommunityDevelopment,YouthDevelopment,StudentExchanges,andCross-culturalUnderstandingactivities.

Dr.NopraenueS.Dhirathiti

Dr Dhirathiti is an Assistant Professor in Public Policy at the Faculty of Social Sciences andHumanities,andalsoholdsanadministrativepostasaDeputyDeanforInternationalRelationsandCorporateSocialCommunicationattheFacultyofGraduateStudies,MahidolUniversity.Sheholds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science (International Relations) from ChulalongkornUniversity, Thailand and twootherMaster’sDegrees in Politics and theWorld Economy andInternational Relations from LSE,University of London,U.K. and International Relations fromHitotsubashi University, Japan, respectively. She holds a doctoral degree in Politics andInternational Studies from University ofWarwick, U.K. She has been conducting research inhigher education policy and governance both in Thailand and Asia Pacific. Recently, she hasfocusedontheissueoflifelonglearningpolicyamongtheelderlypeopleandco-productionineducation.Herinterestisalsointheareaofhumansecurityandthewayinwhichpeoplecanbeempoweredthrougheducation.SheisnowconductingseriesofresearchfundedbytheThailandResearchFund,theNationalResearchCouncilofThailandandtheOfficeofHigherEducationonco-production in lifelong learningaswellas theharmonisationofhighereducation inASEAN.

BeforejoiningMahidol,shewasappointedaseniorspecialistinhighereducationresearchattheASEANUniversityNetwork (AUN) during 1998-2000 and SEAMEORegional Centre forHigherEducation and Development (SEAMEO RIHED) during 2007-2009. She also involved as aninternationalconsultantfortheRETAprojectonDynamicAsiaattheAsianDevelopmentBankbetween2010-2012.

Prof.Hsiao-chinHsieh

Prof.HsiehhasbeenworkingasProfessorinCenterforGeneralEducation,InstituteofLearningSciences, National TsingHuaUniversity since 1998 and has been serving as Vice PresidentofStudent Affairs at National Tsing Hua University since 2014. She obtained Ph.D degree inEducation Policy Studies from University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. Prof. Hsieh’s researchinterests includeSociologyofEducation,EducationalStratification,EducationalPolicy;GenderEducation, Higher Education, General Education; Gender and Science Education, AlternativeEducation.

Prof.JinghuanShi

Professor Jinghuan Shi, the executive vice president of the Institute of Education, TsinghuaUniversity,andadoctoraltutor.ProfessorShiisthe11thBeijingCPPCCmember,andPresidentof Beijing Female Professors Association. Her main research interests are higher education,historyofeducation,internationalandcomparativeeducation,andteachereducation.

Prof.Kai-mingChengisEmeritusProfessorattheUniversityofHongKong.HewasChairProfessorofEducation,DeanofEducation,Pro-Vice-ChancellorandSeniorAdvisortotheVice-ChancelloroftheUniversity.AttheadministrativelevelheworkedinhumanresourcesandcampusIT,buthismajorcontributionwasinfundraisingandnetworking.HeisnowDirectorofEducationPolicyUnitattheFacultyofEducation.HecreatedtheSummerInstituteonhighereducationatHKU.Hiscurrentattentionisonthefundamentalchangesinsocietyandtheirchallengestoeducation,andtheattentiontolearningasthecorebusinessofeducation.Hewasfoundingco-convenoroftheStrategicResearchThemeonLearningScience.HehasbeenconsultantwiththeWorldBank,UNESCO, UNICEF, UNDP and the Asian Development Bank. Dr.AnatolyOleksiyenko

Dr. Oleksiyenko is a researcher of higher education policies and academic organization. Hecontributes a synergy of unique cultural, theoretical and practical perspectives to studies inglobalhighereducation.Dr.OleksiyenkoiscurrentlyconductingacomparativeresearchonglobalcompetitionandcollaborationstrategiesofresearchuniversitiesinEastAsia,EasternEuropeandNorth America. Dr. Oleksiyenko’s comparative study on Sino-Russian competition andcollaborationintheacademicR&DwasfundedbytheResearchGrantsCouncilofHongKong,andhereceivedtheEarlyCareerAwardfromtheUGCin2012.Dr.Oleksiyenkoalsoadvancedopportunities for higher educationpolicy studies by having launched theM.Ed. specialism inHigher Education, the first of its kind in Hong Kong. The specialism has been shapingcompetenciesofhighereducationpolicyresearchers,academicmanagers,andcollegeteacherslocallyandglobally.Dr.OleksiyenkoalsoplaysanactiveroleinknowledgeexchangeintheFacultyandbeyond.Thusin2011,heco-foundedtheCommunityforHigherEducationResearchinHongKong andco-organizedmorethan40researchseminarsoverthe last fouryears. In2015,hefoundedtheUkrainianCommunityforHigherEducationResearch.

Prof.GerardPostiglione

Prof.PostiglioneisChairProfessorinHigherEducation,FacultyofEducation,TheUniversityofHong Kong. He is former Associate Dean for Research and Head of the Division of Policy,AdministrationandSocialScienceEducation.Hehaspublished16booksandover150articlesand chapters. In 2006, he received the Outstanding Research Supervisor Award from TheUniversityofHongKong. In2011,hereceivedtheBestBookAwardfromtheNorthAmericanComparativeandInternationalEducationSociety.In2014,hereceivedtheHumanitiesandSocialSciencePrestigiousFellowshipAwardbytheHongKongGovernmentResearchGrantsCouncil.In2015, he received a LifetimeContributionAward from theNorthAmericanComparative andInternationalEducationSocietyforstudies inhighereducation. In2016,hewas inductedasaFellow of the American Educational ResearchAssociation for his contribution to research. In2016, his autobiographywas published in Leaders in the Sociologyof Education. In 2017, hereceived a second Best Book Award. Prof.TerryAugraduatedfromTsuenWanGovernmentSecondarySchoolin1978andcontinuedher education atHarvardUniversity and StanfordUniversity,where sheobtainedher PhD inPsychology in1987.ShewasAssociateprofessoratBrownUniversityandProfessoratUCLA,priortojoiningtheUniversityofHongKongin2002asChairProfessorofPsychologyandservingasHeadoftheDepartmentofPsychologyfrom2003-2005and2007-2008.Withherrichcross-disciplinaryhumanresourcesexperience, shewasappointedtobe the interimVice-President

and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Staffing and Resources) in January, 2016. She is adevelopmental psychologist by training, and her research interests include: language andconceptual development; health, science, and languageeducation; developmental challengessuchaschildhoodanxietyandautism.HerresearchhasbeenfundedbytheNationalScienceFoundation(NSF),theNationalInstitutesofHealth(NIH),andtheNationalInstituteofMentalHealth(NIMH)intheU.S.,aswellastheResearchGrantsCouncilofHongKong(RGC-HK).

Mr.DavidBishop

Mr. Bishop is a Principal Lecturer at theUniversity ofHongKong and the InternationalMBAProgramatFudanUniversity,Shanghai.HehasbroadlegalexperienceintheUnitedStatesandacross Asia, particularly China. Mr. Bishop has worked on major real estate, private equity,financing,andM&Adeals,andparticipatedinnumerousnegotiationsinChina,HongKong,andTaiwan.Hehasalsoactedasoutsidecounselinconnectionwithvariouscorporate,technology,lifesciencesandcommercialmattersforMNCsoperatinginAsia.Inadditiontoarobustprivatelegalexperience,Mr.Bishopfocusessignificanttimeonactivitiesandprogramsprovidingdirectbenefittothecommunity.Heconsultscompaniesabouttheirethics,CSR,probono,andsocialentrepreneurshipinitiatives,andisfounderanddirectorofmultiplenon-profitcompanies.

Dr. Chan has been involved in the implementation of outcomes-based approach to studentlearning, assessment, feedback and technology enhanced learningpedagogies and tools. She

Prof.PaulCheung

Prof.CheungisDirectoroftheTechnologyTransferOfficeandProfessorintheDepartmentofElectrical&ElectronicEngineeringattheUniversityofHongKong.HeisalsoProgrammeDirectoroftheMScinE-CommerceandInternetComputingprogrammeattheUniversity.HejoinedtheUniversity of Hong Kong since 1980 andwas Dean of Engineering from 1994-2000. HewasAssociateVice-President(Research)from2012-15,andjuststeppeddownfromthatpositionon1January2016.Heisresponsibleindrivingmanyinnovationandentrepreneurshipsinitiativesin the University including the DreamCatchers, the Entrepreneurship Academy and [email protected].(Eng)degreewithFirstClassHonoursandPh.D.degreefromtheImperialCollege,UniversityofLondon,bothinElectricalEngineeringin1973and1978,respectively.Hisresearchinterestsincludecomputerarchitecture,digitalsystemdesign,digitalsignalprocessingandbiomedicalengineering.ProfessorCheungisactiveinservingthe professional community, and was the IEEE Asia Pacific Director from 1995-96 and IEEESecretary in 1997. RickGlofcheskiobtainedhisBAatWilfridLaurierUniversity,hisLLBatUniversityofWindsor,andhisLLMatCambridgeUniversity,England.AfterpractisinglawinCanada,mainlyincivillitigation,hejoinedtheUniversityofHongKong.Hisprimaryareasofteachingandresearchareintortlaw,labourandemploymentlaw,andteachingandlearninginhighereducation.Hehasalsotaughtcriminallaw,contractlaw,legalsystem,andmedicallaw.RickistheEditor-in-ChiefofHongKongLawJournal.HeisaPanelMemberoftheBarAssociationQualificationCommittee.HewasHeadoftheDepartmentofLawfrom1996-99.HeistheauthorofTortLawinHongKong(HongKong:SweetandMaxwellAsia,3rdedn,2012,920pp).Heisauthorandco-editorofEmploymentLawandPractice inHongKong(Sweet&MaxwellAsia,October2010, 900pp), forwhichhewasawarded (jointly with Farzana Aslam) the University Research Output Prize 2011. Prof.IanHollidayreadforaBA/MAinSocialandPoliticalStudiesatGonvilleandCaiusCollege,Cambridge,graduatingwithfirst-classhonoursin1982.HethenmovedtoNewCollege,Oxford,graduatingwithanMPhilinPoliticsin1984andaDPhilinPoliticsin1989.In2006,hecametotheUniversityofHongKongforafive-yeartermasDeanofSocialSciences.SinceJanuary2015,

hehasbeenVice-PresidentandPro-Vice-Chancellor(TeachingandLearning).FormostofhistimeinHongKong,ProfessorHolliday’sresearchhasfocusedonMyanmarpoliticsandgovernance.He istheauthorofmorethan100academicpublications.Hewasfoundingco-editorofPartyPoliticsandtheJournalofAsianPublicPolicyandrelauncheditorofContemporaryPolitics,andservesontheeditorialboardsofaboutadozeninternationaljournals.Prof.Hollidayispassionateaboutteachingandlearning.AsDeanofSocialSciences,hespearheadedtheintroductionofagraduationrequirementthatundergraduatestudentscompleteoff-campuscredits inthetwinareasofsocial innovationandglobalcitizenship.Healsocreated,anduntil2014directed,theFaculty’sMOEIprogramme.LaunchedontheThai-Myanmarborderin2008,andtodayoperatinginCambodia,MyanmarandThailand,MOEIenablesundergraduatestudentsfromtheUniversityofHongKonganditsglobalpartnerstodeliverintensive-modeEnglishclassestochildrenandyoungadultsinimpoverishedandmarginalizedcommunities.Acrosssevencyclesfrom2008to2014,morethan300MOEIstudentstaughtEnglishtomanythousandsofyoungSoutheastAsians.

Prof.JohnKao

Prof.Kaoassists thePresident/Vice-Chancellorof theUniversityofHongKong in leadingandstrengtheningtheUniversity’sglobalnetworksofcollaboration,buildingkeyrelationshipswithrelevantstakeholdersinMainlandChinaandoverseas,maximizingopportunitiesacrossteachingand learning, research, knowledge exchanges and technology transfer, and deepening theUniversity’spresenceandengagementworldwide.

Prof.GabrielLeung

Prof.LeungbecamethefortiethDeanoftheLiKaShingFacultyofMedicineinAugust2013.Prof.Leung,aclinicianandarespectedpublichealthauthority,concurrentlyholdstheChairofPublicHealthMedicine.PreviouslyhewasProfessorandHeadofCommunityMedicineandservedasHongKong’sfirstUnderSecretaryforFoodandHealthandfifthDirectoroftheChiefExecutive'sOfficeingovernment.Prof.Leungspecialisesinthefieldofpublichealthmedicine,astatutorilyaccredited specialty that covers the full rangeofpublichealth sciencesand their constituentdisciplines. Prof. Leung maintains a substantial teaching commitment in the undergraduatemedicalandpostgraduatepublichealthcurricula.HisteachinghasbeenrecognisedbytheawardoftheUniversityTeachingFellowshipandtheFacultyTeachingMedal,respectivelythehighesthonourforteachingachievementsconferredbytheUniversityandthemedicalschool.Hehasmentored15PhDand4MPhilresearchpostgraduatestodate.

Ms.HelenLockey

After completing a BEd teacher training degree, Helen started her career teaching in asecondaryschoolandsubsequentlyinthehighereducationsector.Aftersevenyearsintheclassroom,shemovedintoamanagementandadministrationroleinwhichshewaspartofaseniormanagementteamrunningalargedepartment.Inthelastdecade,shehasworkedinthree president's offices, primarily gathering, analysing and reporting on educational andinstitutional intelligence for academic, strategic and financial planning purposes. Apedagogically-informedadministrator,Helenensuresthatdata isholisticallyconsideredbyincorporatingacademic,administrativeandprofessionalperspectives.

Prof.MattewPryor

MathewPryorisHeadoftheDivisionofLandscapeArchitectureandanAssociateProfessor(Teaching)withinHKU’sFacultyofArchitecture.HeteachesDesignStudioaswellastechnicalcoursesinprofessionalpractice,plantingandecologyandsustainabledevelopmentpractices.MathewisaFellowandPastPresidentoftheHongKongInstituteofLandscapeArchitects,and Chair of their Publications Committee.He is also a Registered LandscapeArchitect inHong Kong, and a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute in the UK. He is also aCertifiedArborist.Beforejoiningacademia,Mathewworkedformorethan20yearsinprivatepractice and has extensive experience in strategic planning, master planning, design,documentationandcontractadministrationonawiderangelandscapeprojectsthroughoutChinaandSouthEastAsia.Hehasspecialistexperienceinthedevelopmentofmega-projectsincludingthemeparks,majorurbanparksandcivicopenspaces,streetscapeimprovements,tourist enhancement schemes, and waterfront promenades. He has also undertakennumerous environmental remediation projects including creation and enhancement ofwetlands,and theecological restorationofdegraded landscapes.He isbestknown forhisworkontheHKWetlandPark,HKDisneylanddevelopment,andonthelandscapetreatmentofslopes.Hiscurrentresearchstudiesincludealong-runninginvestigationonthescienceandpractice of tree transplanting in Hong Kong, as well as on street trees, environmentalremediation,productivegreenroofs,publicopenspaceandwalkabilityinthecity.

Universityon1September2015.PriortojoiningHKBU,ProfessorChinwasProvostandDeputyVice-ChancellorandChairProfessorofComputerScienceofTheUniversityofHongKongfrom2010to2015.Beforethat,hewasDeputyPresidentandProvost(2006-2010),Vice-PresidentforResearchandDevelopment(2003-2006),andChairProfessorofComputerScience(1992-2010)atTheHongKongUniversityofScienceandTechnology.From2001to2003,hewassecondedtoApplied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) as Vice President for InformationTechnology.ProfessorChinobtainedhisBachelor’sandPhDdegreesinElectricalEngineeringattheUniversityofMissouri,Columbia,in1975and1979respectively.HeworkedattheGoddardSpaceFlightCenterinMarylandoftheNationalAeronauticsandSpaceAdministration(NASA)fortwo years before starting his teaching career at the Department of Electrical and ComputerEngineeringattheUniversityofWisconsin,Madison,from1981to1995.Prof.Chin’sresearchisin the areas of computer vision, image processing, and pattern recognition.
