The sound and video techs could use some addi-tional people to help. Broaden your skills, and have fun working with us. We train you, but computer knowledge would be helpful. Contact Wally Brown if you are interested or have questions: 231-845-5699 or [email protected] . Hospitality, INC: Once again, we will host the homeless at our church from January 30 to February 6, 2011 between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 am. People like you will provide them with a hot meal, a warm cot, a hot shower, a safe place and a friendly smile every night. The success of this mission de-pends on volunteers. We have volunteer opportuni-ties for everyone! We need:

Dinner coordinator (prepare menu) Breakfast coordinator Food preparers (bring in food for dinner or breakfast) Evening visitors/snack hosts Dinner hosts/cleanup Overnight hosts Drivers Setup/takedown coordinator each Sunday.

Bev Hamman will be the Hospitality INC volunteer coordinator for our church. She will be in the nar-thex each Sunday beginning January 2 with signup sheets.

God bless you with His peace and joy throughout the celebration of His Emmanuel. Love in Christ, Bob & Sue Martin

Great Quotes from The Newsletter Newsletter

“The devil is easy to identify. He appears when you’re terribly tired and makes a very reason-able request which you know you shouldn’t grant.” Fiorello La Guardia “Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you’ll ever regret.” Ambrose Bierce

By Betty Tabor January 2: Sunday School classes resume at 9:30 Sunday morning, January 2 for Preschool Threes and

Fours through the Middle School class (6th-7th-8th grade). New students, visitors and guests are always welcome. Age appropriate Welcome Bags are given to these students. Toys for Tots: The November-December Sunday School offering brought in close to $70.00. The Sal-vation Army requested that we supply gifts for teens this year. Jennifer Courtland and Betty Tabor bought sporting goods, movies, jewelry, wallets, purses and bath sets. They delivered the gifts to the building on Melendy Street for the distribution to parents on December 15. Next Mission: Once again we will use our January and February offering for socks and underwear for children and mothers at the women‟s shelter, C.O.V.E. Children may also bring new packages of socks and underwear. Valentines for Shut-ins: Students will make valentine cards on Janu-ary 16 and 23 for the church visita-tion team to deliver to members confined to home or nursing home. This has become an out-reach tradition for our Sunday School program that touches the hearts of the receivers. Cocoa Parties: Each week one class will have a hot chocolate and cookie party during January and Feb-ruary. What a great way to warm up on a cold Sun-day morning!

More Another study that interested the Evangelism Committee was the book Take This Bread by Sara Miles. Wayne Disegna has offered to lead the study in an adult class at 9:30 Sunday mornings be-ginning January 16 and running for five or six weeks. This book is a gem—the spiritual memoir of a real twenty-first-century Christian. If interested, please sign up in the narthex on Sunday or on the Volun-teer Office Bulletin Board no later than January 9. Allan Carlson

November 13-20, five team members went on a medical mission trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Ron Applebey, a physician‟s assistant at Memorial Medical Center;

his wife, Kim, a registered nurse; Dave Hamman, Missions Chairman and team leader; Dr. Scott Sitler, Ludington dentist; and his assistant, Tammy Martin, made the eight-day trip. Arriving Satur-

day afternoon, we were taken directly to Rev. Dr. Junie Hyacinthe‟s home, which was our guesthouse the next seven days. June and her husband, Dr. Hubert, own and operate King‟s Hospital where our team worked all week, joining a ten-member surgical team from New York and New Jersey. June and Hubert also have an orphanage and an elementary school on the same grounds. Most recently, June opened up a nursing school, and Ron and Kim were asked to sit in the classroom and give a little advice to students. On Sunday, we attended the Central Methodist Church of Port-au-Prince. In the afternoon, we took a driving tour of the city. There is still much rubble around the city from the January earthquake but not nearly as much as in June. Finally, progress is being made. Later, we set up a dental chair and medical supplies at King‟s Hos-pital. On Monday, dental work was slow for Scott and Tammy; but as the week progressed it became very busy, especially on Friday. Scott extracted teeth all week. Most came out easily, but there were a couple of teeth very difficult to remove. Ron and Kim were very busy all week treating pa-tients. Ron even did some minor surgery alongside a surgeon from New York. The patient was an orphan from King‟s Orphanage. They saw only one case of cholera all week.

Dave spent most of his time meeting with the lead-ers of UMCOR, which now has an office in Port-au-Prince, and Rev. Paul Gesner, head of the Methodist Church of Haiti. They discussed the future of several Methodist projects including the Methodist Chil-dren‟s Home of PAP, the Baudin Agricultural School, Haiti Methodist School Hot Lunch Program and a school and medical clinic in the town of La-tannerie. On Thursday, a national holiday, we visited the Bap-tist Mission up on the mountain overlooking the city. We also visited the Methodist Children‟s Home and brought gifts for the children. Any free time we had after our work days was spent playing and talking with the orphans at King‟s Or-phanage. The last day, on our way to the airport, we stopped to visit St. Joseph Orphanage. Bev and I sponsor an eighteen-year-old Haitian orphan girl who works and lives with the director of the orphanage. She is only in the seventh grade because she did not start school until age ten. With support from the United Methodist Church of Ludington, we all felt we made a contribution, how-ever small, for the betterment of the people of Haiti.
