Lesson 4 - Who is Jesus: his compassion
His interactions with people demonstrate his compassion
◦the centurion's servant & raising the dead son (Luke 7:1-10)
▪a centurion in Israel would be the equivalent of a Japanese military officer in China during WW II ▪the humility & great faith of the centurion▪Jesus saw the funeral procession and “was filled with compassion”
◦the woman with bleeding & raising the dead daughter (Luke 8:40-56)
▪a crowd welcomed him: by now Jesus is well-known; word has spread▪the crowd was crushing him, yet he knew when the woman touched him▪the humility & great faith of the ruler and the woman▪Jesus' compassion: he didn't rebuke the woman. He didn't discriminate: he cared enough to heal not only an adult, but also a child; not only a son, but also a daughter.
Jesus' compassion is unmatched by any other person in human history.
