The quality and consistency of a man’s decisions reflect his character. Christian character begins with justification, but it grows throughout the life long process of sanctification. God’s grace is sufficient for the task and a major part of God’s gracious provisions in his word. The Bible provides the very “words of life” that instruct us in salvation and Christian living. By obeying God’s commands and making decisions based on his word, Christians can strengthen their character.

It is obstacles that make men strong . It is not helps, but difficulties, conflicts, rebuffs that make men of moral sinew. Too much ease and avoiding responsibility have made weaklings. The youth should be taught that this world is not a parade ground, but a battle field. The true test of character is found in the willingness to bear. Mental ability and genius are not character, for these are often possessed by those who have the very opposite of a good character. Reputation is not character. True character is a quality of the soul, revealing itself in the conduct.

We must set goals for our lives Col 3:2> Set your affections on things above, not

provoking one another, envying one another. Prov 1:7> “ The fear of the Lord is the beginning

of wisdom.” Standards of success should be our pursuit. We can accomplish it because of the

promise of God> 2 Tim 1:7> He Hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Heights That May Be Attained Dear youth, what is the aim and purpose of your life? Are

you ambitious for education that you may have a name and position in the world? Have you thoughts that you dare not express, that you may one day stand upon the summit of intellectual greatness; that you may sit in deliberate and legislative councils, and help to enact laws for the nations? There is nothing wrong in these aspirations. Aim high, and spare no pains to reach the standard.

Just know that the honor of God lies at the foundation of all true greatness.
