Scholastic Olympics By: Emily Jones

On March 14th the Bay Head School seventh grade class competed in the 24th annual Donovan Catholic’s Scholastic Olympic academic competition. Bay Head School has been participating in this event for over 15 years, and each year the seventh grade does a great job to represent BHS. Two students competed in each of the eight different categories: science, history, English, spelling, art, math, technology, and music. In the art competition contestants had to sketch a still life picture using the objects that were given to them. The spelling group competed in a spelling bee style competition, and the rest of the categories completed a multiple-choice test in their respective area. After all of the scores were tallied students received medals for the top three spots in each division. It was a great event for the entire seventh grade. Costa Demetriades said about the event, “I think that the Scholastic Olympics was a great experience for the whole seventh grade to participate in. I participated in the English section with my partner Madelyn Akersten. Although neither of us won, I had a great time just being there at the school and I bet all of us did.” When asked about her experience experience at her event, one of the contestants for the science category, Haley Nelson, said, “The Scholastic Olympics was a wonderful experience for the seventh graders at Bay Head School. The students who supported those participating were so encouraging, while the students participating in the Olympics thrived while showing their skills in each subject matter. What a great opportunity and experience for all!” Ms. Wills, who accompanied the seventh grade to the Olympics, said, “Bay Head is so proud of all of the students who participated in the Scholastic Olympics this year.” I am pleased to announce five 7th grade students placed and received medals for their endeavors. I was honored to escort the 7th graders and experience this event with them,” says Ms. Wills.

Open House By: Beatrice Karron

On April 1, Bay Head School held it’s annual open house. The open house is an opportunity for people who are interested in BHS for their children to come see the school and learn about all the things that we do here. Student Council members hosted the event, and Law Club, Anime, Stock Market, and Newspaper club members all helped out too. Each club and activity made a poster board showcasing they highlights of each club .The faculty each created boards giving a little information about themselves their interests. As people came in, BHS student took them on tours of the school, showing off the clubs, trips, activities, and programs the students participate in. After the event ended, all the student felt a sense of pride in their school, and were proud to show off BHS to the community.

Bay Head takes a Bite out of Theater Week By: Laine Pritchard

This years students perform in the Theater Week production, “The Golden Goose”. “The Golden Goose” is about three depressed princesses. The king and the queen try to make their daughters happy by

bringing different people in to make them laugh. Theater Week is offered to students from grades 1-8. There was a wide range of students in all grades participating. Michael Taubenslag runs Theater Week every year for Bay Head School. The students who participated in Theater Week put much time and effort into learning their roles. Practices were from 2:30-4:30, everyday after school for a week. This led up to the performance on Friday, at the Sacred Heart Church. Everyone got to make their own costumes, whether it was different articles of clothes from their closets or fun and creative dresses from the program. Sixth grader Trevor Kalb says his favorite thing about Theater Week is the rehearsals and just having fun!

I know this year has gone by so quickly for my classmates and I; we can’t believe it’s already almost over! In the past two months we’ve had PARCC testing, field trips to the Algonquin theater, the Holocaust museum in New York, and Insectropolis. In addition, seventh grade participated in the annual Monsignor Donovan Scholastic Olympics, where they won 4 awards!
