audio and so on, including illustration and photography.

Things You Should...

• Have a working knowledge of video and video software.

• Know your outlet (YouTube, Vimeo, your website, etc).

• Know your audience.

• Know your goals.

• Know your limitations.


Content Is Key

Preparation can be very helpful. Writing scripts, notes or cue cards;

storyboarding ideas and concepts before any sort of production work begins.

Designating the proper amount of time for prep, production and completion of

your video.

The number one concern with producing videos should be content.

• What message are you trying to convey?

• Is the information relevant and/or relatable to your business?

• Presentation is important; smooth delivery, believability, succinct messaging.

• Entertaining (funny, emotional), informative (educational, eye-opening).


Books Get Judged By Their Covers

Give people what they want. There’s nothing wrong with giving away tips, tricks

and secrets. It can add honesty, integrity and validity to you and your business,

and people like that.

Appearances can speak a lot about your business.

• Good Lighting: People need to see what you’re showing them.

• Good Sound: People need to hear what you’re saying.

• Supporting Graphics: Sometimes more visuals are necessary.

• Good Content: Make it worth their while. Make them come back.

Tips for Creating Better Video

The sky’s the limit... but so is your time and knowledge.

• Dedicated space with good lighting for shooting your videos.Natural light is best. Don’t overkill with light, but a nice even balance.

• Invest: Buy a better camera, microphone/audio recording device.Nikon D5100 is under $500 | Zoom Recorder is under $200

• iMovie or Windows Movie Maker is easy enough for anyone to use.iMovie is only $15 | Windows Movie Maker is free

• Some graphics and a little bit of background music can be a nice touch.Be supporting with the graphics, not driving. Be subtle with the music, not overpowering.

• Take a class if you need to (local college or online).
