All Girls Beginner’s Chess By Dynamic Chess TUE | Grades K—5 $143 Chess is typically a male dominated game, and some girls find being outnumbered by boys to be intimidating in the classroom. Dynamic Chess wants to create an opti-mum learning environment for girls, and for every student! If your daughter wants to be in an all-girls class and a co-ed class, she is more than welcome to join both! Your child will be taught the basics of chess by a female chess instructor. They will learn things such as how the pieces move, piece values, what is a check, check-mate, and stalemate. Each child will also learn good opening principles, positional concepts, and common checkmate patterns. Your daughter will be taught how to improve calculation and resourcefulness on and off the chess board! Girl Power!

Chinese By Hai-Tao Huang WED | Grades K—5 $120 In Chinese class we work on speaking, lis-tening, reading and writing mandarin Chi-nese. To actively engage students with the language I use activities, drawing and songs. Character writing is a critical part of our work along with using vocabulary in conversation.

Coding with Tynker By Kids STEM Studio MON | Grades 2—5 $206 Learn to code using Tynker's own visual programming language, featuring visual drag-n-drop logic blocks that eliminate the need to understand programming syntax. All playing levels are welcome, including abso-lute beginners! Beginners and more expe-rienced players will be separated into different groups. The class will focus in all areas of the opening, middlegame, and endgame. The class will also cover famous chess games, numerous checkmate patterns, and how to improve chess calcu-lation and visualization. The 2—5 class will move at a faster pace than the K-1 class!

Guitar Club By Fine Arts Matter THU | Grades 2—5 $175 Turn up the volume and rock out with Gui-tar Club this semester! Guitar Club pro-vides students in 2nd Grade and UP the

opportunity to grab a guitar and have fun playing music with friends. Our encourag-ing and experienced teachers are ready to help your child develop their own musical ability, self-confidence, and creativty as they prepare for an exciting final perfor-mance!

Kids’ Clay By Terra Incognito THU | Grades K—5 $160 Children are picked up at Beye school by Terra Incognito staff and escorted to our studio (246 Chicago Ave. Oak Park). Pick up, by parents or care givers, is at Terra Incognito at 4:15 P.M. Terra Incognito is a well respected Ceramic Arts Center in Oak Park with a long history of introducing area children to the joys and excitement of working with clay and a long association with the Beye afterschool pro-gram. Through this on-site program, the young artist will be introduced to the basic pinch, coil, and slab handbuilding tech-niques. Plus, the nature of working with clay allows students with prior experience to take projects to a level appropriate to their skills. We have children who, happily, repeat these classes, term after term. Pro-jects are theme based and designed to stimulate creativity, in a playful way, and will emphasize the tactile and plastic quali-ties of clay. **Children are picked up at Beye school byTerra Incognito staff and escorted to our studio. Taekwondo By Flying V Martial Arts TUE | Grades K—5 $126 Our Taekwondo classes offers a total fit-ness program integrating mind, body and spirit. The program focuses on improving not only basic motor skills, but developing students’ confidence, self-esteem, disci-pline, respect and focus. Furthermore, our program consists of a balanced cardiovas-cular workout, including punching, kicking, and blocking skills while using self-control and the Taekwondo tradition. Participants will improve coordination, power of con-centration, balance, and both physical and mental discipline. The program will en-courage students’ sense of commitment and persistence in the face of challenges while helping them enter society with a more confident and enthusiastic outlook.

YogaKids By YogaKids of Oak Park THU | Grades 1—5 $123 Kim has studied a variety of yoga styles for over 20 years. She is a Certified YogaKids Teacher (CYKT) . YogaKids is based on Howard Gardener’s Multiple Intelligence Theory. In every class, music, stories and cooperative activities insure that each child is engaged and confident. Age-appropriate breathing techniques both calm and energize. Yoga poses strengthen and stretch the body. Verbal directions and movement that crosses the body’s mid-line create new brain pathways to learn-ing and concentration. Since yoga is a non-competitive activity, self-esteem is natural-ly fostered. Both boys and girls enjoy fun, friendship and focus each week.
