BETTER THAN EXPECTED?
You just found out your OP score.
You cant believe your eyes.
You pinch yourself to make sure youre not dreaming.
This is real.
Congratulations, you smashed that OP score!
After celebrating by doing a happy dance, crying tears of joy and calling everyone you know, you are probably feeling a mix of emotions.
Elation Happiness Excitement Relief Confusion maybe even doubt?
Be proud of yourself!
If you were expecting to get a lower OP score than you did, you may have set your uni preferences accordingly, and maybe now youre second-guessing whether you made the right decision. Should you have aimed higher?
First of all, theres still time to change your study preferences, so theres no need to panic. Take a minute to breathe and remind yourself that this is a good thing. You studied hard and now you are seeing the rewards!
All you need to do is take a moment to check in with yourself and decide whether you need to reassess your study goals.
Here are three important things to remember:
If you were excited about your study options before you got the higher OP score, there is no rule that says you have to change your preferences.
Getting a higher OP does not mean you need to ditch your dreams of becoming a historian to study law or medicine, if you dont want to. If you are happy with your study options and cant wait to study the degree of your choice, just think of your awesome OP score as a bonus (and a well-earned one at that)!
01 There is no rule that says you have to change your preferences
If getting that higher OP has thrown you into confusion and now youre not really sure what you should do, dont panic.
Now is the time to explore your options.
It can be helpful to talk to your friends, your family, your guidance or career counsellor, to uni admissions advisors as well as doing your own research.
Remember, having more options available to you now is a good thing!
Whatever you decide, you should be proud of your achievements.
02 You have time to explore your options
If getting a higher OP than expected means you can now get into a degree you used to think was only a pipe dream, well done!
Theres still time to change your preferences so that you can study your dream degree.
Whatever you decide to do, the most important thing to remember is to do what will make you happy!
03 Theres still time to change your preferences
