Apprenticeship with LSSSDC: A Gainer for Industry

Industry can enrol apprentices either in National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme or in Apprenticeship Training Scheme

With recent changes in Apprenticeship Act,

MSDE has further boosted the Apprenticeship model in India by appointing CEOs of Sector Skill Councils as Joint Apprenticeship advisors. Mr. Ranjit Madan, CEO, LSSSDC has thus been appointed as Joint Apprenticeship Advisor by MSDE under Apprenticeship Act of India. This move has brought a huge opportunity to Life Sciences Industry players in all fields— Manufacturing, Sales and R&D— to gain the best out of a most flexible apprenticeship model in the world. Now Industry can enrol apprentices in sales force (for example Medical Sales Reps), Research & Development (for example research associates/ scientists), or any other vertical. With the new changes LSSSDC has been brought at par to DGT in monitoring and executing the apprenticeship contracts with Industry either in NAPS or in ATS. All the NSQC approved qualifications of LSSSDC (61 as of now) can be utilized for enrolling apprentices in Industry. LSSSDC has started engaging Industry players for extending the benefits of flexible apprenticeship model. Mr. Sachin Sachdeva, Joint Director, LSSSDC has been entrusted responsibility in LSSSDC for Industry engagement.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): MSDE approved the funding of 75000 employees assessment and certification for Best in Class Employers in Life Sciences Sector

Following the successful engagement with Life

Sciences Industry in year 2017-18 for getting existing workforce assessed and certified by a third party national level certification body like LSSSDC, MSDE has offered the huge financial support for catalysing the large Industry houses engagement who are proclaimed ‘Best in Class’ Employers . Under a special project called as ‘Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana – Recognition of Prior Learning for Best in Class Employers’ (PMKVY-RPL BICE), MSDE has approved funding of assessment and certification for 75000 workforce employed with such ‘Best in Class’ Employers.

LSSSDC is now working with top 18 Industry houses like Pfizer, GSK, Abbott, Sanofi India, Biocon, Dr. Reddy’s Limited, Sun Pharm, Cadila Pharma, Lupin, Mankind Pharma, Alkem Labs, Panacea Biotec, Jubilant Group, Glenmark Pharma, Hetero Drugs, Aurobindo Pharma, Wockhardt, Cipla, under ‘PMKVY-RPL BICE’.

Machine Skilling via Virtual Reality: A Success Story Today for Pharma

Granules India, Mankind Pharma, Lupin have started using Virtual Reality Pharma Manufacturing Skilling Module launched by LSSSDC for skilling their new hires and up- skilling of existing workforce

After the first ( in any sector in the Sector Skill

Council eco system), Virtual Reality based manufacturing skill centre in Hyderabad launched by Honourable Vice President of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, LSSSDC has been constantly expanding spread of Simulation based skilling via its accredited Vocational Training and Industry Partners. By end of September 2018, LSSSDC had already set up 6 skill centres equipped with Pharma VR Simulation Technology in states like Telangana, AP, HP, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. Skilling with VR technology has boosted the skills of young operators and till date all trained and certified students in these centres have been getting 100% placements. By end of year close to 500 candidates are expected to be certified as Machine Operators/ Manufacturing Chemists, leveraging this cutting edge technology. Granules India, Lupin, Mankind Pharma are the front running Industry Partners, making best use of this advancement facilitated by LSSSDC.

Mr. Ranjit Madan, CEO LSSSDC had stated that plan for LSSSDC is to enable every cluster of Pharma/ Bio Pharma to have at least one such VR Lab, which will enable bridging the Skill Gap in Manufacturing job roles in Life Sciences sector in India.

Being a certification body for a quality

focussed Industry, LSSSDC through its Industry cluster approach— especially for technical job occupations— has achieved fruitful outcome for those skilled and certified by LSSSDC. Placement ratio in technical job roles, is averaging 85%. This has been made possible through the synergistic efforts of LSSSDC, its Skill Centres and Industry Partners. As LSSSDC is growing its presence and skilling numbers, it’s imperative to maintain the quality efforts in connecting the stakeholders in skilling and hiring process. Towards this LSSSDC has leveraged technology and has launched its web-portal SKILLStoJOBS to bridge the communication between Students and Skill Centres, and Employers. Mr. Sachin Sachdeva, Joint Director, LSSSDC has stated that SKILLStoJOBS portal will not only connect the certified talent pool at LSSSDC Skill Centres with employers, but will also help

LSSSDC and KBITS launched BISEP in Karnataka State

In 2018-19, BiSEP enrolled 200+ students for LSSSDC qualifications

Since beginning of 2018-19, LSSSDC had been

actively engaged with KBITS under Govt. of Karnataka to extend its Skill Development initiative in Karnataka Cluster for equipping University students with appropriate skills required by Life Sciences Industry, especially Bio Pharma.

DBT has been funding short term skill development programs. It has mandated affiliation and alignment of its approved programs in FY 18-19 with LSSSDC qualifications (falling under NSQF) for Biopharma and Bioinformatics domain. LSSSDCs Anshul Saxena, Director-Standards and Training Advisory is now a member in HRD taskforce of DBT. As on date 10 colleges spread across India have signed MoU with LSSSDC for getting the LSSSDC affiliation and running DBT funded programs in conformity with LSSSDC Qualifications.

manpower for Bio pharma cluster coming up in Assam, partnered and participated in the conclave hosted by Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM). This created interest amongst prospective Training Partners who have evinced shown interest in setting up skill centres in Assam and N. East. Alongside, enquiries were received from youth of Assam and N. East with interest in joining the Life Sciences and were later connected with LSSSDC accredited skill centres in the NE.

With the objective of developing a pool of

skilled Medical Sales Reps (MSRs) for Pharma and Biopharma sub sectors, Mankind under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative has joined hands with LSSSDC. Under the CSR project, Mankind is financially supporting fresh skill development of appx. 200 Medical Sales Representative as pilot.

In line with its objective to provide the

Planning Workshop on NOS and NSQF Based skill Development training in Life Sciences Sector

To formulate a suitable path to set skill ecosystem in Karnataka as per National Standard and Industry demand, LSSSDC and NSDC PMKVY PMU team, organized a Planning workshop with Potential Skilling Institutions and Industrial training consultancy in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Many leading academic institutions like M S Ramahia college of Arts science and commerce, Acharya Group, Oxford Group, Pharma Training Institute, Green Miles Consultancy and Apollo Med Skills Limited participated in workshop.

Discussion during the Planning Workshop in Karnataka Discussion was held on forging closer bonds between Industry and Academia in formulating skill and training plan for Karnataka and implementation of NOS based curriculum.

Train the Trainer's programs for academics, PMKVY components of state & process and CMKK schemes of Government of India and Government of Karnataka were discussed.

Academics participated during the Meeting proposed to align NOS and NSQF based qualification in their academics as soon as possible to enhance employability of candidates.
