The Faculty of the BELLEVUE HOSPITAL MEDICAL COLLEGE respectfully invite the at tenshy

Summer Session in this Instit ut ion This Session was first instituted in 1866 for the

purpose of presenting to physicians and middot medical stndents an opportunity for studying cershy

tain important special departments much more fully than is possible during the regular

rinter course of lectures and also in t he hope of securing for students more efficient and

systematic teaching in the regular comse of study thn~ is usually obtained under a single

preceptor During the Summer Session daily clinics will be held either at the Bellevue

Hospital in the College (from the Out-door Department of the Bellevue Hospital) at the

New York Eye Infirmary or at the New York Stnte Hospi tal for Diseases of the Nervous

System Regular recitations in the seven departments constituting the ordinary curshy

riculum of teaching will be couducted by a corps of In structor s appointed by the Faculty

The Dissecting Room will remain open until about the first of May and the Students

Chemical Laboratory under the charge of Dr A W Wilkinson Assistant to the Chair of

Chemistry will be open during the en tire Summer Session

In additon to the Clinical lectures a spechl course will be given by Prof Hari)mOllll on

Public Hygiene a course 011 Surgical Dressings by Dr Yale a COUlse on Surgical Anatomy

by Dr Bryant a conrse on Diseases of Infancy by Dr Castle and a course on the

Medical npplicatons of Electricity by Dr Cross The matliculation ticket will admit to

the lectures clinical and didactic delivered in the Hospital the College the New York

Eye Infirmary and the New York State Hospital for Diseases of the Nervous System

SUMMER RECITATION GLASS In organizing a Summer Recitation Class upon its present basis it is the aim of t he

Faculty to secure for the student the most efficient and thorough instruction in the regular

COUlse of study lecitations will be held by thc Instructors daily These recitations will

be made from text-books and the Instructors will endeavor to elucidate nil questions middotthnt

are not readily comptehended by the students In additio~ the students are expected to

attend the Clinical and Didactic lectures They will also have an opportunity of dissecting and

of takulg private instruction in Practical Chemistry in the Laboratory

The Summer Course will be divided into two terms the fi rst extending from March

15th to July 1st and the second from September 1st to the opening of the regular sessio))

The establishment of this course in connection with the Regnlar Winter Session will cany

out eyen more fully than in previous years the idea of a full collegiate year which has been

entertained by the Faculty from the very organizatio ll of the Collegc The following

schedule gives suhstantially the arrangement of the recitations and lectures for the Summer

REGULAR CLINICAL LECTURES During the Summer Session Clinical Lectures will be deliver ed in the Bellevue Hosshy

pital the College Building (from the Out-door Department) at the New York Eye Infirmary

and the New York State Hospital for Diseases of the Nervous System Thus many of the

most important of the Clinical Lectures given during the Regular Term will be continued

through the Summer It is hardly necessary to call att en tion again to t he importance of the

union of Clinical and Didactic teaching which is now carried out to the full est extent in the

Summer as well as in the Winter Session

The Students Chemical Jaboratory under the charge of Dr A W Wilkinson Assistant

to the Professor of Chemistry will be open for those who may desi re to form classes for the

examination of Poisons Urine Urinary Calculi Blood Milk ampc The disEecting room will

remain open until about the first of May The Demoustrators ticket issued for the disshy

sections during the S ummer Session will be valid for the ensuing Wiote) Sess ion

FEES AND REGULATIONS

The Fees for the Recitations Lecture~ ampc of the Summer Session are as follows

Matriculation (the ticket valid for the following Winter) $5 00

Recitations and Lectures 35 00

Cheq ical Laboratory (including material) 25 00

Dissecting (the ticket valid for the following Winter) bull 10 00

A Matriculation ticket which admits to all the Lectures Clinical and

Didactic must be taken before any of the other tickets are issued

Attendance on the recitations during the Summer Session in conjunction with attendshy

ance during the Winter Sessio~ will be reckoned as a year of pnpilage a~d a certificate to

that effect wiII be issned by the Secretary of the College As inquiries are constantly being

made upon these points the Faculty desire it to be distinctly understood that the Summer

Session has been instituted for the purpose of extending the course of medical instruction

and tbat this course can not take tbe place in any way of one of tbe two regular courses remiddot

quired for graduation

The Recitations will be held in the commodious building of the BELLEVUE HOSPITAL

MEDlCAL COLLEGE sitnated within the grounds of the Hospital between 26tb and 28th

Streets on the East River Students and practitioners on arriving in the city are reshy

qnested to report at tbe Hospital and inquire for tbe Janitor of the Oollege who will aid

them in jJrocuring comfortable accommodations without delay lbe entrance to the Hospital
