Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Joachim, There are a few events that had to be canceled due to the increased number of Covid-19 omicron infections. Our priest Winter Gathering was cancelled this past week. My Wiatava Lodge Banquet with the BSA’s Order of the Arrow was postponed. I was to give the Invocation. Many of us had to change our schedules around in some way due to increased infections of Covid. Many medical experts expect to see a significant decrease in omicron infections in February, starting in various parts of the country. In the meantime, we ask all parishioners attending Mass to wear a facemask while indoors, to sanitize their hands regularly, and if you feel ill, do not come to Mass. Father Miguel Angel was supposed to take some time off after Christmas but was diagnosed with Covid 19. He was isolated for 10 days. He will begin his vacation on January 19th and will return to the parish on February 3rd. Father Steve and I will “hold down the fort” while he is away. Recently, my mother Marjorie Hanifin was diagnosed with shingles. She is 93 years old and lives at Brookdale Nohl Ranch Senior Living in Anaheim Hills. The shingles appeared on her face and forehead, leaving swollen eyelids. Those who had chickenpox may develop shingles; it is unknown what reactivates the virus. A chickenpox vaccine in childhood or a shingles vaccine as an adult can minimize the risk of developing shingles. Physicians suggest those over 50 years of age should get the shingles vaccination. I wanted to give you a brief overview regarding the Restroom Construction project. We have been continuously working on this project for 3 years. We are still raising money – as of last week $563,152.49 has been raised. We are in discussions with the Diocesan Construction Office and are ready to put the project out to bid to construction companies – we will need three bids. We will submit a budget to the Diocese of Orange once a construction company has been selected. Gratefully yours in Christ the Good Steward,

WASC/WCEA Accreditation: Saint Joachim School has been diligently working on a document, called a self-study, to renew our Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) accreditation. In March, we will have a visit from several principals, teachers, and superintendents from other Catholic Dioceses in California who will review our self-study and interview teachers, students and staff, as well as spend time on our campus to get a feel for our school culture. If all goes well, we should have our accreditation extended for another six years, which is the maximum amount of time. Please pray for our school as we go through
