Superior Sound and Improved Signal Integrity

The highest audible frequency is 20 kHz. For frequencies below the one megahertz range, such as those in analog audio, the impedance of the cable does not make a significant difference. However, the impedance of the source and destination devices are important. Although the cable impedance does not matter, the capacitance does. The interaction between the system impedance, especially the source impedance, and the capacitance of the cable, will determine the distance that can be achieved.

Ideal for Recording, Editing, Distribution and Storage

The specification for digital audio was developed jointly by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) & European Broadcast Union (EBU). The key difference between twisted pair specifications for digital audio cable and standard analog audio cable is the impedance specification.

The detailed specifications of this standard are:

* Sampling rate: from 32 KHz to 192 KHz * Bandwidth: from 4 MHz to 25 MHz * Impedance: 110 Ω ± 20%

HD Designed Coaxial Cables

The European Broadcast Union (EBU) has recently decided to support both 720p/50 Hz and 1080i/50 Hz high definition (HD) formats, which results in a clock of 750 MHz and a data rate of 1.5 Gbits/second. 1080p/50 Hz with a clock of 1.5 GHz and a data rate of 3 Gbits/second is an attractive production format for high-quality sport production, and as a master format that will convert into 1080i/720p with minimal transfer artifacts; the EBU is keen to promote its adoption in the longer term.

10 Reasons and more why to use Belden’s HD coaxial cables

1. Belden exceeds the standards, longer lengths possible - Belden's HD coaxes deliver 3G

2. Belden guarantees return loss (-23 dB from 5 MHz to 1.6 GHz and -21 dB from 1.6 GHz to 4.5 GHz; Belden coaxial cables are ready for 1080p)

3. HD designed coaxial cables (high-density nitrogen-gas-injected foam dielectric; Belden's bubbles are small and closed-cell)

4. Quality and Consistency. No connector issues and re-pulling of cable5. Installable performance

6. Belden's high-density nitrogen-gas-injected foam resists deformation when bent or crushed; stable impedance and low return loss

7. Very low attenuation

8. Matte finished outer jacket, available in 10 colors

9. HD Patch cables are available: 1865A, 1505F, and 1694F

10. All cables are available in halogen-free (direct burial, UV-resistant)

11. Belden measure 75 ohms to 4.5 GHz to give the user REAL data for 1080p/50 applications

12. 179DT is designed for OB van's (extreme small, save space and weight)

13. Bundled versions (VideoFlex & BananaPeel) are available from: 179DT, 1855A, 1855ENH, 1505A, and 1694A

14. Your customer will have the same design and color at the next delivery? Belden products are the same year for year!

15. All international sport-events using Belden HD coaxial cables, because of state-of-the-art technology

Triax Standard for Professional Video Cameras

The use of triaxial cables allows a small cable of 14 mm or less to run multiple signals. Triax contains two isolated shields and a solid or stranded center conductor. Isolated shields allow the triax to provide multiple functions over one cable through multiplexing techniques.

Fiber Optic Camera Cable

Designed specifically for high-definition (HD) cameras, these composite cables can multiplex audio and video signals and power. The cables meet all the requirements of the SMPTE 311 standard developed by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). They are also compatible with industry standard SMPTE 304M connectors.

Networking: Mobile Audio/Video and Data (Copper)

Many system designers and installers routinely try to use Category 5e or Category 6 cables for A/V applications. By the nature of their design, category cables are twisted pair cables with 100 Ω impedance. This fits into the AES/EBU impedance specification of 110 Ω ± 20 %. In general, in a digital audio cable the impedance is the critical electrical parameter, not just capacitance as in analog audio cables. As a bonus the low capacitance from Belden category cables makes them excellent for use as analog audio cables.

CatSnake® Tactical Category 5e Patch CableBelden offers 4-pair CatSnake® Category 5e cables for use in:

1) Digital audio transfer over conventional data cabling. These commercially available solutions are:

* CobraNet™ * EtherSound™ * Roland’s DigitalSnake™ (cross-over cables) 2) DMX over Ethernet

Single-pair Category 5e Patch CableThis robust 100 Ω UTP with 24 AWG stranded (7 x 32) bare copper conductors is truly new, filling a user-requirement gap that has previously gone unaddressed. AES/EBU digital audio cable, 1353A, is a robust single-pair Category 5e patch cord that utilizes Belden’s exclusive bonded-pair technology for outstanding reliabillity in both indoor and outdoor applications.

NanoSkew®Today’s high resolution video displays are often run as component video (RGB, VGA, Y/R-y/B-y etc.) These delivery systems split the signal into its component parts. Such as system requires high performance cables that exhibit low signal skew (delivery timing of each component) and low return loss (reflections caused by impedance variations). Typically, these systems utilize bundled coax for the cable interconnects. Increasingly, however, system designers are turning to category (twisted pair) transmission equipment to distribute component RGB video due to category cable’s economy over coax. The use of category cables also allows for the facility owner to use the same cable for premise LAN wiring – eliminating the need for two separate cables. To meet this new video/data category requirement, Belden has designed a new series of cables.

IT Joins Broadcast Technology

With the move away from a signal-based workflow to a digital file-based workflow, the need increases for IT routing and processing of content is increasing rapidly. Multi-format solutions for audio and video creation, production, and storage needs a mix of today’s microprocessors, audio and video optimized IT technology, and high-speed networks.

Content providers, and broadcasters, need a coherent line of choices. – Belden’s broadcast and network components are the right choice!

Fiber Optic Solutions for Broadcast Technology

For years, television broadcasters have relied on coax and shielded twisted pair cables to route video and audio control signals and RF around their facilities. Coax for video and RF, and twisted pairs for analog and digital audio, have proven themselves to be easy to work with and reliable.

However, as the television broadcast business evolves from a single analog channel to a digital world, the industry is re-evaluating the role of coax. In its place, fiber optic cable is emerging as a logical solution for next-generation television signal routing, where greater bandwidth is needed to accommodate HD signals and multicast SD channels.
