Here are a few notes & reminders … Remember: “Jellies are cute, sandals are cool. Swim shoes are neat for a backyard pool. BUT...when coming to daycare where we jump and run; gym shoes please for safety and fun” – this is mainly because of the mulch in the yard – not the safest when it comes to open toed shoes. Thank You! We’re loving the summer weather now that it’s arrived and we are spending a lot of time outside playing, swimming and more playing – please make sure you have sunglasses, hats, appropriate shoes, swim suits and swim diapers for your child to bring to daycare. If you have any questions please ask! I also need some extra summer/warm weather outfits for a few children We will be having the Prior Lake Community Police Officer (Officer O’Hara) stopping by daycare to teach the children about safety, strangers and other important things to teach the children regarding safety, wearing helmets when biking, life jackets when swimming etc. Fun Facts About the Month of July The traditional birthstone for July is the Ruby. RECIPE CORNER: 4th of July Themed Foods …

Flag Fruit Skewers:

- (4) bananas/sliced - 1 pound strawberries/sliced - 1 pint blueberries/whole - wooded skewers Directions: peel and slice your bananas, wash and slice your strawberries, wash and drain your blueberries. Place fruit on skewer with 5-6 blueberries first followed by alternating strawberries and bananas. Serve with yogurt dip.

4th of July Strawberries:

- 1 to 2 pounds strawberries/washed but left whole w/stem - (1) 12oz. bag white chocolate chips - blue tinted sugar Directions: Microwave chocolate in dish (follow package directions). Dip strawberries ½ way in the chocolate and then dip them in the blue tinted sugar ¼ of the way. Put on refrigerator for an hour to harden.

Watermelon/Blueberry ‘Salad’:

- (1) small seedless watermelon sliced - (1) pint blueberries washed/drained Directions: Slice watermelon in to ½ thick sliced – using a small star shaped cookie cutter cut out star shapes in the watermelon. Place in a bowl tossed with blueberries. Serve with yogurt dip.

Patriotic ‘Sparkling’ Punch:

- cranberry juice - Blue Frost Gatorade - Sprite Directions: Add ice to a chilled glass. Add cranberry juice to fill the cup 1/3rd of the way. Then add the blue frost Gatorade another 1/3rd of the way topped off with Sprite (Diet or Regular or 7UP). *Add Vodka for a ‘grown-up’ version

Frozen Fruit Ice Cubes:

- sliced variety of berries (rasberries, blueberries, strawberries etc) - Ice Cube Tray - Sprite or 7UP (diet or regular) Directions: Place washed and sliced berries in to the ice cube tray. Fill tray with water and freeze overnight. Place Ice Cubes in glass then fill with Sprite or 7UP *add Vodka for a ‘grown up’ version **also works GREAT in the mesh feeders for a teething baby – add any fruit to ice cube tray – add water and freeze – the babies LOVE it!

Triple Pepper Kale Dip:

- 1 cup mayonnaise (I add chopped garlic to mine) - 1 (16oz) container of greek yogurt - 2 cups kale(chopped) - ½ each red/orange/yellow pepper finely chopped - 3 scallions finely chopped Direction: Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Serve with bread and veggies of choice. I also hallow out a bread bowl and serve in the bowl with bread … YUM!
