NAPLAN Online

An announcement has been made by the Educaon Minister

Kate Jones for Queensland state schools to delay the imple-

mentaon of NAPLAN Online. We understand that the Minis-

ter has made this decision to put the best interests of our

students first. As such, our students will connue to under-

take NAPLAN, in a paper-based format in 2017, as we have

done in previous years. The delay means further tesng of the

assessment pla-orm to ensure that the online tests are 100%

ready to go for 2018. As a NAPLAN Online trial school, we

have been able to provide valuable feedback to help improve

the pla-orm that our students will use when they undertake

the online assessments in 2018. NAPLAN will connue to be a

point in me assessment that gives us informaon on how

our students are doing with essenal literacy and numeracy

skills. We will connue to implement our current curriculum

programs ensuring students are developing paper and digital

skills in literacy and numeracy

On behalf of the Herberton State School P-10 P and C I would like to wel-

come our new tuckshop convenor Naomi Hooley, a valued grand-parent in

our school community. If you see Naomi around the school please say hello.

She will be canvasing the classes in the near future for food ideas that the

students would like to see in the tuckshop so please get your thinking caps

on! We look forward to working with Naomi and taking on board her ideas

for our tuckshop.

Farewell and thanks also goes out to our outgoing tuckshop convenor for

the past 2 years, Chrisne Dowse. I would like to publically acknowledge the

hard work and service that Chrisne has given our school. Chrisne has

kindly agreed to complete a handover to Naomi and to pass on her wealth of

knowledge; just another example of our school community supporng one

another. Thank you Chrisne and good luck in your future endeavours.

Julie Part, P & C President.

Herberton State School Tuckshop Please ensure correct money is placed in your child’s tuckshop bag. If you do not have a tuckshop menu please collect one from the Primary School Campus

Year 2/3/4 We have a busy term ahead in Year 2/3/4. In English we will be writing narrative texts. In mathematics we will continue working on addition and subtraction strategies, multiplication strategies, shapes, reading and writing numbers, number pat-terns, capacity, data and conducting chance experiments. Our focus in science will be on solids and liquids (melting and cooling) and exploring the properties of materials. Year 2/3/4 Mathematics The automaticity of number facts is very important for life.

Each day, students work on their number facts using flash

cards. The year 2 students are consolidating addition and sub-

traction facts and the year 3 students are working on learning

the multiplication tables.

Year 2/3/4 English Last term students learnt all about persuasive texts. This term stu-dents were given a stimulus newspaper article with two points of view about a pool closing. They had to choose one side of the argu-ment and write a persuasive letter. Dear Council, The pool should definitely stay open because it will make people fitter. The pool keeps children away from T.V, iPads and computer games. Firstly, we will get fitter and then it will bring more people to the pool. Swimming lessons can make us fitter. Secondly, we should keep the pool open so then it will keep people off electronic devices so then they don’t get sore eyes. To sum up, they should certainly keep the pool open so kids can get fitter and get off electronic devices. From Ted Year 2

Dear Mr Scott, The pool should be closed because it is very dangerous. Kids could get stuck in the big cracks. It will certainly cost too much money. We must shut down the pool. The cracks might get dirt in the pool and the kids could get sick. From Ryan Year 2

Dear Mum, The pool should stay open because people will get off electronic devic-es. Children can do valuable swimming lessons and will be able to play games in a safe place. Firstly, people will definitely get off electronic devices because kids will definitely use their imagination instead of electronics doing it for them. Kids will be encouraged to get out of the house, off electronics and people will visit the pool instead. Secondly, children can definitely do valuable swimming lessons be-cause people are drowning. Swimming lessons will surely stop drown-ing. Not just that, some people can’t swim. Swimming lessons could change peoples’ lives and if everybody had swimming lessons we would know what to do in water emergencies. Thirdly, if we keep the pool open, children will be able to play in a very safe place because many people will be watching. Everyone likes to play safe and people could get mad if we close the pool. To sum up, if the pool stays open people will get off electronic devices, children can do valuable swimming lessons and play games in a safe place. Lets save our pool. Yours sincerely, Seth Year 3

Dear Bailey, First of all the pool must be closed. Kids can get their foot stuck in the cracks. The kids can get a disease from the putrid water. The pool is totally run down, old and cracked. There are cracks in the pool over 20cm long. It needs so much work it’s not worth fixing up. Kids can push off the side and get their foot stuck in the cracks. The pool is extremely dangerous. Secondly the kids can get a disease by accidently swallowing the wa-ter. You can get a life disease. Finally the pool is totally run down, old and cracked. The pool is worn out and there are cracks on the side of the pool that can cut your foot. Kids can get their foot stuck in the cracks. The kids can get a disease from the putrid water. The pool is totally run down and cracked. The pool must be closed today. From Hamish Year 3

Dear Mr Honan, Our local pool needs to be fixed. If you fix it, people will get off elec-tronic devices, children can do valuable swimming lessons and you can meet up with friends and family. Firstly, people need to get off electronic devices. They will listen to the T.V. which will encourage people not to have fun, also people learn false things. You will have lots of fun playing games in the pool. In addition, children can do valuable swimming lessons. It will help kids swim in the deep end by themselves. If kids don’t learn they will drown. In conclusion, you can meet up with friends and family. You can make new friends and have fun playing with noodles and balls. To sum up, people need to get off their devices, children need valuable swimming lessons and you can meet up with friends and family. Mr Honan, you must keep fighting to save the pool. Yours sincerely, Grace Year 3
