Where do your clothes come from?
What does Fair Trade guarantee?
1. A fair price to producers in developing countries
2. A ‘living wage’ for those producers
3. Safe working conditions
4. Protection for the environment
5. Rights for women
6. A social premium

The 5 Goals to becoming a Fairtrade School
1. Set up a Fairtrade Steering Group
2. Adopt a Fairtrade Policy
3. Commit to Fairtrade Products
4. Learn about Fairtrade
5. Take action for Fairtrade
Set up a Fairtrade Steering Group
Pupils and adults – at least half young people
Totally new group, or members of eco-committee or school council
Meet at least once a term
Evidence: Minutes of meetings, Action Plan, List of names and roles.
Adopt a Fairtrade Policy
Why the school wants to make a Fairtrade commitment and what they are going to do
Policy agreed by the School Governors, and signed by the Head Teacher and at least once young person
Evidence: A copy of the policy. Make sure it is signed!
Commit to Fairtrade Products
Use Fairtrade products where you CAN
Buy them from the supermarket, or on a sale or return basis from SUSSED or Traidcraft
Evidence: List of products and how they were used. Sales records, invoices, receipts. Why not take a photo of them all instead of scanning them in!
Learn about Fairtrade
Cover Fairtrade in at least 2 year groups, in at least 3 subjects
Evidence: Description of how this was done, lesson plans or departmental plans, examples of work.
Take Action on Fairtrade Do at least one event or activity each term, INCLUDING ONE IN FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT
Make Fairtrade a part of what you already do
Advertise events
Evidence: List of events, photographs, press cuttings, newsletters, website coverage.
Evidence• Unlike Eco-Schools and Healthy Schools you DO NOT need a huge file of evidence.
• Everything is uploaded online – do it as you go along.
• Remember – you don’t need a huge amount of evidence
