PREPARATION FOR COURSE DELIVERYInstructors are responsible for organising their courses, whether they run them for an employer or through their own business. This involves activities such as course promotion, venue hire, catering, and obtaining relevant public indemnity and liability insurances.

COURSE FEES

• Standard, Youth, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Older Person (5 day) - $3,550 per person

• Teen (4 day) - $2,110 per person

Fees cover course attendance, all teaching materials required to deliver the MHFA course, and ongoing support from the MHFA Australia team.

HOW DO INSTRUCTORS MAINTAIN ACCREDITATION?

Instructors are required to:

• Regularly deliver MHFA Courses(a minimum of three courses a year)

• Provide each course participant with an MHFA manual(purchased through our online shop)

• Undertake regular continuing professional development

• Pay an annual membership fee

• Hold a valid WWCC or equivalent.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSES

MHFA Australia runs intensive courses to train Instructors in the Standard, Youth, Teen, Older Person or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander MHFA Courses.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITYApplicants must demonstrate the following:

• Good knowledge of mental health problemsand their treatments

• Personal or professional experience supportingpeople with mental illnesses

• Respectful attitudes towards people with mentalhealth problems

• Enthusiasm to deliver MHFA courses

• Excellent facilitation and communication skills

• Knowledge of mental health services

• Good interpersonal skills

• Have a business plan or organisational support toconduct MHFA courses

• Hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)or equivalent.

WHY BECOME AN ACCREDITED MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR?Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation that trains and accredits skilled Instructors with a passion for improving the mental health of their communities.

You will be part of the Australian chapter of the global Mental Health First Aid movement, with over 750,000 people trained by over 1,800 Instructors Australia-wide.

MAKE A DIFFERENCEYou will improve mental health literacy in your community, and teach members of the public how to support co-workers, family members and friends with mental health problems to find appropriate help.

TRAINING AND SUPPORTYou will receive intensive, high quality training to become an Instructor, including materials you will need to start delivering courses. MHFA Australia actively supports every Instructor with regular online communications, telephone support and updates on course content.

AUTONOMYOnce accredited, you will be able to set the course fees and deliver courses anywhere in Australia, whenever suits you.
