of the industry from some of the basics in engineering

• The oft heard statement – “software engineering is not like other engineering disciplines” - has given the

freedom to the industry to ignore the basics of engineering principles which has resulted in poor quality products,

tremendous budget overruns, and worst, rework has become an acceptable practice

• Any product development fundamentally needs an engineering design foundation – unfortunately

fundamental concepts in computer science and core software technology basics have been ignored

Objective To design and develop an Automated Revenue Tracking platform which integrated

seamlessly with

(a) the commerce delivery systems, as well as

(b) the financial accounting package in use.

Furthermore, the platform was required to be extensible to accommodate newer commerce

channels as and when they are conceived and put into production.

Key points

- Developed in Java – using Struts MVC2, on Caucho Resin Web Application Server

- Distributed database – on Oracle 9i DBMS
