Despite the sunny weather, the Office of CEPD is still hard at work planning for Spring 2012 courses and keeping busy accrediting and managing registration for Fall 2011. There have been some changes in the past season. As of this month our Vice Dean, Dr. Ivan Silver, will be away on a six month sabbatical. We all miss him around the office, but we wish him well on all his endeavors during his time away, especially the art show he’s curating on the East coast. We would like to welcome Dr. Dimitri Anastakis who will be our acting Vice Dean while Dr. Silver is on leave. Dimitri serves as Chair of the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He is also Executive Director of SIM-one, the interprofessional healthcare simulation network. We’re thrilled to have Dr. Anastakis with us and hope he enjoys his time here as acting Vice Dean. Dr. Mary Bell has stepped down as Director of the CE/KTE program in the Department of Medicine and from her role in CEPD. Dr. Bell will be missed by all of us here at CEPD for her dedication, brilliance and her personable character. We sincerely congratulate her and wish her the best, but we’ll miss her all the same. From everyone here at the Office of CEPD we hope you’re having a happy and healthy summer and we look forward to seeing you in courses come September. Warm regards, The CEPD Team The Consultants: Kate Hodgson and Jane Tipping, our Education Consultants, are here to help you develop your CE curriculum. Jane and Kate’s recommended reading for summer is Planning Multiple Educational Approaches or Formats. Planning Multiple Educational Approaches or Formats Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities are available in many different formats including large-group learning at conferences or seminars; small-group learning during courses or workshops; skills development during laboratories; distance-education through websites, video or tele-conferencing; reading journals, texts, or electronic publications; watching and listening to DVDs, videos, or on-line presentations; consultation with colleagues and content experts; or independent research of online resources. Depending on your participants’ specific learning objectives and individual learning styles, a variety of formats for professional development may be useful. For example, when participants are learning about a new therapeutic approach for the first time, scanning the medical literature or attending a keynote address at a large conference may be a good introduction. When participants are developing skills in the practice of the new therapy, small group case-based discussions or skills building workshops may be more > If you have an idea for the next Quick Tip or you need clarification from an Education Consultant, don’t hesitate to contact Jane or Kate.
