Dear High School Student* *(Any high school student graduating in 2014, 2015, 2016 or 2017.)

Join us for a weeklong summer day camp where you can explore and expand your creative side! This exclusive program is intended to give you a taste of design and photography as it applies in the real world, first by understanding the universal design process then applying it towards a collaborative group project. Taught by our faculty of working professionals, you will have the opportunity to select a concentration of your choosing: Interior Design, Graphic Design or Photography. The week culminates in a galley opening where you will present your work and ideas to family, friends and fellow campers to celebrate a job well done!

We would love to welcome you (or welcome you back) to Boot Camp 2014. The application and supporting forms are included on the next pages. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me directly or Jessie McEwen at [email protected] or 312.697.8051.

Project description: Visual meets the Performing Arts

In today’s world, the overlapping and intertwining of creative disciplines is always increasing, making collaboration beyond one’s primary area of expertise a necessity. The performing arts and its relationship to the visual is no exception as intelligent and functional design is critical to the success of nearly any performance project. This year’s concept involves branding a hypothetical music band- the genre, identity, and performance space of which you will determine and create, among other aspects, per your group affiliation.

The first day of Boot Camp will familiarize you with the seven step design process and its critical role in design and photography: Inspiration. Identification. Conceptualization. Exploration/Refinement. Definition/Modeling. Communication. Production. Though the camp is highly collaborative in nature, you will be expected to choose a concentration for the week in either Interior Design, Graphic Design or Photography.

Each group will be instructed by a member of our faculty with various objectives for the week.

INTERIOR DESIGN / “ID”

• Introduction of concepts and underlying ideas that shape interior design• Address the practical and functional needs of an interior design• Overview of the design process from start to finish• Familiarization with communication through drawings and other means, including the use of 2d and

3d computer programs

GRAPHIC DESIGN / “GD”

• Introduction of core design and compositional concepts specific to Graphic Design• Researching case studies of successful brands • Identifying and researching objectives and attributes of new brand • Creating a brand style guide: logo, tagline, palette and typeface• Designing 2D traditional and unconventional advertisement and collateral of new brand

PHOTOGRAPHY / “PHOTO”
