Two Types of Rewards

Intrinsic rewards--satisfactions a person receives in the process of performing a particular action.

Extrinsic rewards--given by another person.

Intrinsic rewards

• Feeling of choice: opportunity to be able to select task that makes sense to people and to perform them in ways that seem appropriate

• Competence: accomplishment that people feel in skillfully performing the chosen task

• Meaningfulness: opportunity to pursue a worthy task purpose

• Progress: the feeling that people are making significant advancement in achieving task’s purpose
