We campaignedto improvestandardsto studentaccommodationwith the “Rate YourRental” survey.

We lobbiedagainst sharedhousingrestrictionsproposed as partof the “Article 4Direction”.

Your voiceour housing

Did you know that as a student, this could:

Restrict your housing choices and limit your right to rent where you want

 Increase rent prices

Force you to rent properties in parts of Bath with fewer bus services and fewer

amenities

Bring a lower quality of housing standards due to less competition

Endanger students and force us to walk home further through potentially

unlit areas

Force students to live in expensive

purpose built accommodation instead

of experiencing real independence

Also affect graduates, workers such as

nurses and teachers on low income and

anyone else sharing a house

 And more…

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO STOP

THIS DISCRIMINATION?

Question Time with Ben Butcher & Helen Edworthybathimpact Reporters

On Friday 26th October, lead-

ers from the local commu-

nity and the student body

came together to debate some of the

most contentious issues facing young

people, ranging from tuition fees to

changes in housing policy. A crowd of

around 50 students, as well as a few

members of the local council, were

present to listen to local Bath Lib-

eral Democrat MP, Don Foster, Con-

servative councillor for Lansdown

Anthony Clarke and Pete Mercer, Na-

tional Union of Students (NUS) Vice

President for Welfare. Joining them i

constantly reminded the audience

that although some people backing

the policy were supporting it for the

wrong reasons, there is nothing in-

herently ‘anti-student’ about it. Both

Mr Mercer and Ms Wade strongly re-

butted that a lack of housing, scram-

bled bus routes and an increase in

rent would not affect only students

but also the ‘low paid workers’ Mr

Foster had previously aimed to pro-

tect.Mr Foster’s weakest moment in

A4D’s success in other regions. Mr -
