    SECTION A.

    What is Prayer?

    Definition: Prayer is a

    dialogue/communication and relationship

with God, or a conversation with God.

    Prayer is doxology, praise,

    thanksgiving, confession, supplication and

intercession to God. Prayer is speaking with

God. Itsin the Bible, Jeremiah 33:3 call

upon me and I will answer you

    A1.Types of prayer

We have various types of prayer, but I will

be listing few here you need to know, listed

    below viz:

PRAYER OF AGREEMENT: In matt18:19, Jesus introduced the prayer of

agreement when he said if again I say to

you if two or more.. So therefore to use

a prayer of agreement, you must be sure that

the person with whom you are agreeing is in

line with the prayer of agreement; this

implies that THERE MUST BE ONENESS

    OF MIND. (Teamwork.)

PRAYER OF FAITH: it is also known as

petition prayer, it is between you and God.

Matt 11: 24. The rule to consider this iswhen you PRAY you must believe that you

receive what you asked for: HEB 11:1. When you

pray in faith, God immediately gives you what

you prayed for-in the spirit realm. Gods power

never changes, what changed it ARE the

peoples/Christians LEVEL OF FAITHmixed with his power.

    THE PRAYER OF PRAISE AND

WORSHIP: in this type of prayer you dont

ask God for anything, you only thank him

for his blessings and mercy and how much

you love him. Luke 2:20, Luke 18:43, john

    11: 41, Luke 11:

    THE PRAYER OF INTERCESSION:

    Intersection means (interceding standing in

the Gap) on behalf of someone. It also

involves praying for others, to church, organizations. Examples are, Paul in the

    bible Eph 1:15-18. Phil 1:3-4

At this stage we will be discussing only on

this kinds of prayer. But the most important

its that we all practice at least one or more

    of these kinds of prayer.

Furthermore I want to discuss with somefrequently questions Christians asked on

    prayer.

WHO DO I NEED TO PRAY?

I will be outlining some reasons why

    Christians need to pray.

    BUILDS OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH

    GOD: EPH 3: 14-19.

    HELP US OVERCOME TEMPTATION

    HELP US DETERMINE GODS WILL

    PRAYER ACCOMPLISHES GODS

    WORK

    A WEAPON OF SPIRITUAL WELFARE

    A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

GODS WORD CALL US TO PRAY

And lots more, also individual got

reasons why they pray to God, but above are

the primary reasons why we pray to God.

Although some persons do say that DO

CHRISTAINS HAVE TO PRAY? Theanswer is a capital YES, it is essential, Jesus

also Prayed, Luke 5:16, Matt 1:35. How

often should we pray?1thes5:17. There is a

common saying that when there is a man to

pray there is a God to Answer. So I will say

you have to pray as much as you want thecloseness and response of God. Prayer does

not INFORMS God on what you need but

    INVOLVES God. Matt 6:8. 2Chrn 16:9

Prayer is an opportunity that everyone

should take to invite God to become

their Lives.Prayer does not change God; it changes

us, Malachi 3 vs. 6. Even when you dont

pray to him he changes not, He is a Perfect

Man. A prayer less Christian is a powerless

    Christian.

    4/25

Prayer does not get our will done in

Heaven, but Gods will on earth.Jeremiah

    29:11-14

Prayer is not because God needs us but

    because we need God.

    DOES GOD ANSWER PRAYERS?

Do you have an answer? I guess you have

one already in your mind. A hymn once said

Thy ways of God are Mysterious to

accomplish his works, His ways no man candetermine, unsearchable they are. If I may

answer I will say say YES but does not

answer all prayers sometimes he says NO.

You may want to know why I said so, that

you will find out later. God has its ways of

    answering prayers.

IF: as I do say from Genesis to Revelation,

the whole Blessings pronounced its attached

with a conditional statement IF, matt 7:8

said only those that asked receiveth, this

implies IF you are ready to ask him he is

    ready to answer.

WHEN : people sometimes gives God time

for him to answer prayers, YES it is a level

of faith but this doesnt work all times, God

has its own designed plan for you and

everything must go as he planned. Isaiahsaid his hands is not shortened to save, he

knows everything, but he only answers when

it pleases is him because HE GIVES JOY

    AND ADDED NO SORROW.

    PRINCINPLES OF PRAYER

What are the principles that govern our

    praying?

    We must pray in faith

Prayer Requires Faith: Matt 21 vs. 22.

    James1:5-8

    Faith in God. Heb 11:6

    We must pray in humility

    Humility before God. Isaiah 57:15.66:1-2

Humility in prayer: Luke 18:14 James 4:10

WE MUST PRAY IN HARMONY WITH

    GODS WILL

    Mt6:9-10 1jhn 5:14 jam 4:3. With faith and

Humility toward Him, we will gladly yield

    his will.

    WE MUST PRAY WITH

    THANKSGIVING:

Giving thanks to him always for all

    things. Eph 56:20

    Phil 4; 6

    Col 4:2

    1thes 5; 17-18

    THE ATTITUDE OF GRATTITUDE

    Psalm 100:4

    Col 3:15

    Rom 1:21

WE MUST PRAY IN THE NAME OF

    JESUS

    Bible references; john 14:13-14. Heb7:24-25

WE MUST LIVE BY HIS WORDS.

We have to meditate on our scriptures.

There are 7,847 promises in the bible.

Looking at psalm 37 there are 40 promises

in it. When you live by the WORD, it sinks

in you and it becomes part of you.

WE MUST INTERCEED: Pray for others,

do not be selfish in your prayers. Job 42:10,

    James 4:3,

All this is the essential principles

governing your prayers as a Bonafide prayer

Warrior or a Christian: NOTE: all Christiansmust be a Prayer Warrior.

    QUALITIES OF PRAYER

    Steadfastness: (Acts 1:14, Acts 12:5).

    Watchfulness: (Eph 6:18)

    Thankfulness

    Humility

    Confidence

    Purity of Intention

    PerseveranceSpecific

    REASONS FOR UNANSWERED

    PRAYER

This is the most frequently asked question

every Christians/prayer warrior alwaysasks. I will be stating some few reasons:

before outlining the reasons I will like to

    classify all this to classes

    Class A: Spiritual SINDoubts, Hypocrisy,

    Pride

    Class B: Poor Relationship-rudeness,

    unforgiveness, malice, anger, wrath EST.

Class C: Major Sin: Evil doings, wickedness,

    blasphemy EST.

Class D: Praying Amiss: Lack of persistence,

    endurance, patience EST.

Now the reasons why we pray and we do not

get response to our prayers and

    supplications.

    PRAYERLESSNESS: James 4:2. This also

    affects. Prayers remain unanswered because

    they remain unasked.

SIN: This is the number one reason that led

or brought unanswered prayer: Isaiah59 vs

1: for my hands are not shortened nor my

ears deafened to hear BUT YOUR SIN has

    turned away.. Jeremiah 5 vs 25 ,

    Jer 5 vs 17. 1 pet 3:12

    LACK OF DETERMINATION:

    Gal 6:9

    LACK OF FAITH

    Heb 11:6

  • 7/25/2019 BASICS OF PRAYER

    7/25

Also, I will want to bring your mind to

this, sometimes when God does not answer

    Prayer it may be:

Its Will: we must always seek Gods will.

He has plan: I john 5:14-15

Wrong Motives: as a man thinketh so it is.

    Prov 16; 2,21:2

Unconfessed Sin: Psalm 66:18, Isaiah 59:2

    Rebellion: pro 28:9, John 9:31, Prov 15:29

Closing Your Eyes to the Needy. Prov

    21:13

Giving Up: Gal 6:9 Luke 18:1

Non Forgiving Spirit: Matt 11:25-26, Matt

    6; 14He has a BETTER plan ahead: Eph 3 vs 20,

    Rom 8:28, jer 29:11.

Guess you might have been able to see and

identify to rectify and know the categories

you fall. You assist God in answering your

    prayer through your conducts.

    POWER OF PRAYER

The communication between man and God

has a greater effect on Christians life. The

power of prayer should not be

underestimated, James 5:16-18 declares, theprsyer of a righteous man is powerful and

    effective. Also Matt 17:20,

It is used to overcome enemies Ps 6:9-10

It is used to conquer Death 2kings 4: 3-36

    It gives healing: James 5:14-15

    To defeat demons: Mark 9:29.

God through prayers open eyes, changes

hearts, heals wounds, and grants wisdom.

Prayer unlocks, opens and shut doors, the

power of cannot be over emphasized,

    underestimated. Many chains are broken

through prayers. The power of prayer

influence and draw the glory of God.

Definition: A prayer warrior can be defined

as anyone committed to be praying toothers.

How to become an Ultimate Prayer

Warrior? There are three basics way

    towards that;

1.Keeping God as the number one

priority by surrendering all to him.

    Rom 8 vs. 13

    2.Nourishing yourself with His word

    3.Praying Aggressively believing God

Answers. Having Faith in the Lord.

    HOLLINESS

Definition: This is an act of beingidentified by consecration, sanctification, andbaptism.

    Text : 2 Cor 5 vs 17, Eph 5 vs 17, 1 thes 4vs 7,2tim 2 vs 22.

    NECESSITY OF HOLLINES

1.God is holy: a man must be holy as ourcreator; holiness they say is a symbol ofGodliness. For a complete Christianity,

holiness is necessary and best required.See 1 peter chapter 1 verse 14.

2.God demands holiness: its acommand from God, to be named achild of God, obeying hiscommandment should be our first aimsand objectives, and he said if you love

you keep my commandment. SeeEphesians chapter 1 verse 4 and15.stian ,

3.You can see God with holiness:Godis holy and he that must work with himmust be holy, and as a Christian, aChrist like, you have to do the thing he

    does. Heb 12 vs. 14.

    WHAT IS HOLLINESS TO ACHRISTIAN?

    1.Holiness is not weakness :( Luke 2 vs.40 , Joshua 1 vs 6-9, 1sam 3 vs 19)

    2.Holiness is not slow in Speech : ( 2peter3vs 11)

3.Holiness is not in cloth, food nor is itoutwardly show : ( lev 20 vs 7)

4.Holiness is having zeal for God5.It is a pure in heart ( psalm 24 vs. 4)6.Holiness is not pretence

    HOW TO BE HOLY

1.Give your life to God: you must have atotal rebirth in Christ, accept him asyour personal lord and savior, confessyour sins and he shall make you holy byhis grace and mercy.

    2.

Seek the spiritual gift and his fruit :the best gift a man can have is the spiritof God, psalm 51 verse 10 said create inme a new heart and renew a right spiritwithin me , when the spirit of Goddwells in you, you will be holy in Christ.

3.Put off the old man: old things are

passed away and new things have come, forget the past, come unto him his ready

to make you holy and upright in hisprescience

4.Be imitator of him: he sinneth not, hehis always holy, and has a clean heart, heonce said the things I do that ye may do

    them. Emulates his doings.

"WITHOUT HOLINESS, NO MANSHALL SEE GOD!"

    TEXT: Heb. 12:14; I Peter 1:13-16;Titus 2:11-15

Now the problem with most people'sconcept of "holiness" they think it is somestate of spiritual depth that makes themmore spiritual than others, or that it is somenegative constrictive lifestyle that is boringand uninteresting. In reality however, holiness in the Bible is an ACTION concept!

Holiness is not just what we DON'T DO; itis very much what we POSITIVELY DO!

Holiness in the Bible is almostalways connected with actuallifestyles, not just with some state ofmind. It is verypowerful, and verypractical, and verypositive!

The basic concept of holiness in the Bible isthat of "separation,"a separationfromsin, anda separation toGod!The Bible teaches us that "without holiness,

no man shall see God!"(Heb. 12:14). Holiness

therefore is an absolute necessity as adiscipline for the believer!

HOLINESS: ACTIVE, NOTPASSIVE! I Pet. 1:13-16

    A. Preparation 1:13-14

    1. Peter here describes the holy life as onewho prepares his mind for action!a. The KJV here has, "gird up the loins ofyour mind"which meant a great deal to aman of the first century who wore longflowing robes as his daily attire. Ifsomething had to be done quickly he would

gather up his robe and tie it around the loinarea so he would be free to respond withoutbeing encumbered or held back! (Today wewould say, "Roll up your sleeves"to indicatethe need to be ready.b. If planning a trip, they would oftengather up the robe and "gird it around their

loins"so that they could act quickly ifnecessary toanything that happened on thetrip without being slowed down!

  • 7/25/2019 BASICS OF PRAYER

    15/25

    2. Notice Peter's meaning and advice here:"PREPARE YOUR MINDS FORACTION!"1:13 (NIV)a. Preparing to live a holy life begins here,IN THE MIND!

    b. While not a popular subject in churchlife today, it is important and critical!c. Philip. 4:8-9 comes to mind here, thosethings that build the positive rather than thenegative!3. The point of this preparation is to beready for ACTION!

    a. Holiness is not some spiritual state ofecstasy; it is a verb of action!b. Notice what follows Peter's call toprepare the mind for action:1. "be self-controlled"... it is in the imperativetense, the man or woman who is holydemonstrates the characteristic of self-

control in all areas of their life! (KJV has theword "sober.")2. "set your hope fully on the grace to be givenyou"... meaning: as you expect Jesuscoming at any minute live as though Hewould be here any second! Purity is the ideahere, being always prepared for Christ's

return; how would you live today if this wasthe day Jesus returned?

Peter says holiness is more than justrules or laws, it is righteous living!

    a. Peter's use of the word "self-controlled"or in the KJV "sober"refers to one whoavoids excesses, the life that is free from self-

indulgence or reckless living.b. It can mean any excess, even religiousexcesses! We are to be in control of our livesto honor God and to serve others if we are tobe "holy!".When one views the real God, thewonder of Him and His grace, it will drive usto live in a way that pleases Him, not ourself

or others!Peter here also connects "holiness"with

the second coming of Christ, when we trulybelieve that He can come any second it willhave an effect on us as we live, a life that isholy waiting for Christ to come! (See I Jn.3:1-3)

    a. Thus we are to abandon the "old ways"we used to live by!b. Then, we lived in ignorance, we didwhat everybody else did, but now our eyesare open to sin and we need to be aware ofwhat pulls us from God and avoid thosethings!

    c. Those old evil desires should not beexpressed anymore in one who calls himselfa Christian!

  • 7/25/2019 BASICS OF PRAYER

    16/25

    B. Performance 1:15-161. The argument Peter uses here is simple:If God is holy and we have God in us we willlive holy!2. Peter does not spend the time arguing

why "holiness"is something we should thinkabout, or why it is right, just that it ISRIGHT because God Himself is Holy!3. The call to holiness is based on thecharacter of God being a Holy God! It isthat simple!a. We can't embrace the God of the Bible and

fail to embrace a holy lifestyle.b. To have the one is to have the other oryou don't have either!c. Hence the statement in HEBREWS12:14 "Without holiness, no man shall see God!"4. God in the life of a believer will expressHimself in holy living! There will be a

performance! It is not enough to know whatthe right desires should be, they must beacted out too!Holiness requires an actualperformance!

For many people "holiness" has a negativeconnotation to it; we don't do this, we don't dothat! Biblically however, holiness has a strong

positive focus, one of positive action! Holiness isa simple concept, it means being set apart by Godto reflect His will in this world. Since God is set

apart from the evil of this world wemust bealso. "Without holiness, no man shall seeGod!" Is your life one that reflects true

    holiness?HOLINESS: ATTITUDE AND

PERSONAL! Titus 2:11-15A. Perspective 2:11-131. Titus' teaching about holiness mirrorsthat of Peter's here: Holiness is a realchange on how we live and what we think! It is not just a religious concept; it is aconcrete lifestyle!

    2. Holy living can alter the landscape of anation!a. It is NOT something however that canbe legislated by mans laws!b. It is NOT something that you can makeothers do!c. It Is SOMETHING that we must do in

our own lives and by our example affectothers.3. We can never legislate moralitytheOld Law proved this didnt work, the bestthing we can do is live morally!a. The world needs a perspective ofmorality seen as a model!

    b. Holy living will provide this for others!c. If the church and Christians do notliving a holy life our calls for the world to be

  • 7/25/2019 BASICS OF PRAYER

    17/25

more holy will only fall on deaf ears! Notice Paul's teaching here: holiness"teaches us to say 'NO' to ungodliness andworldly passions, and to live self-controlled,upright and godly lives in this present age." 2:12

    a. It is not enough to just say NO ... italso requires living a positive model ofholiness too!b. Perspective begins in the mindremember, but it then flows out intoaction! No one can continue to live the

Christian life that doesn't practice a holy life!

The sun represent the DEVIL( EVIL

MIND). Though it was not stated and

recorded in the scripture that anger its a sin,

also it is not advised to get angry evrytime,

moreover anger is only a sin when the devil

is being allowed to operate in the anger.

Therefore brethren , one thing we should be

careful of, when getting angry is the Action

and Reaction. If not properly managed ,

Action bring forth destuction , and the

reaction can bring forth grudges and

    quarelling.

    CAN ANGER BE CONTROLLED?

Yes , because I was once a victim ,and below

are some control measures I used :

1.Self control the ability to control

oneself , thinking before act. ( bill

    cosby)

    2.James 1 : 19

    3.Eccl 7 : 9

    4.

    Prov 15: 15. Walk away ( anthony abraham a.k.a

    ibeyen)

    6.Breathe deeply ( james allien)

    7.Go to a happy place

    8.Self awarenessability to notice what

    , you have limited friends ( prov 22 : 24)

    CONCLUSION

    Anger destroys, because so many

derogatory words are pronounced, but whatanger destroys can still be rebuilt, but very

hard. Everyone must see one or two things

that will make him/her angry, the best thing

to do is to prevent the action and reaction

that comes aftermath. Like David has said

create in me a new heart and renew a rightspirit within me. look at the person sitting

beside you and say to him/her OH

    LORD RENEW A RIGHT SPIRIT

WITHIN ME AND CREATE ME A NEW

HEART. SO HELP ME GOD. (Amen)

    THANKS.

stop stinking thinking and start thinking big

because a mans thought affects his character.

    SIN AND ANOINTING

Christians today argue that in spite ofSamsons immoral act, the anointing

continues to flow. HOW TRUE IS THAT?

The anointing is divine electricity. It obeys

almost all known laws of physics on

electricity. If a piece of wire is full of

electricity, whoever touches it dies, but ifthat same live wire is covered by a piece of

rubber called emasculator, irrespective of the

level of the current it is carrying, a child can

play with it without getting hurt.

    BIBLE REFRENCES

    Romans 6 vs. 12,

    Prov 31 vs. 3,

    Prov 6:26.

When you learn to stand in his presence

for long and fill your glory container,

anyone who lives or tries to touch you with

any evil intention could die. Die to your flesh

so that spirit can live in you. Lev 20:26 the

level of the sin in your life limits the size of

    your glory container.

NOTE: The anointing of the anointedspeaks vengeance on the enemies of the

    anointed. Psalm 104 vs. 14-15
