Expected BehaviorIn addition to the academy behavior policy I require that students follow common sense safety guidelines while in the science lab. Students will read and then sign these guidelines indicating that they understand and intend to follow them. Anyone jeopardizing the safety of oneself or others will not be tolerated and will result in behavior slip/automatic referral to vice principal and loss of laboratory privileges. Safety is no accident!

Absent WorkAgain, in addition to academy policy there are a couple of more things to be aware of in my class regarding absent work. Next to the exit door on the left hand side there is a file with five slots, one for each day of the week. Extra daily handouts will be placed in this file. When you return from an absence, look in the appropriate slot for those items you need and pick them up.There is another file which has 4 slots, one slot for each science period (A, B, C and D). This file is found on the counter on the right hand side of the exit door and is used to store graded work for students that were absent or for some other reason did not did not receive their graded work. On a weekly basis I will return your assignments with the point values you have earned. I will then record those grades in the grade book and post them on the internet. You will find a record of those scores on the internet at the school web site. This will allow you and your parents/guardians to know your grade at all times and what you are doing to it based on the quality of the work you produce. You control your grade, I don’t. It is a good idea to hold onto your graded work at least until you compare the scores with what is posted on the internet. If you were absent when papers were distributed, it would be your responsibility to retrieve your papers from this file.

Grading and EvaluationThe grade you earn is based on your total points divided by the total points possible times 100. This will result in your grade as a percentage. Each quarter will be a total of approximately 700-100 points possible. You might be asking yourself at this juncture how can I earn points? Well, I’m glad you asked. Points can be earned for the following tasks:

End of Year Comprehensive Final There might be a final at the end of the year which will cover all material gone over throughout the year. It would be wise to, at the end of each unit, save all material and store it at home.
