A reminder to parents to notify the school about your child’s health We welcome information from parents about their child's health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school. Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your child. It is also important that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new health condition develops. Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents. Please provide this information in writing to the principal. This will greatly assist our school in planning to support your child’s health and wellbeing. Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts. We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s health needs or as otherwise required by law. The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey Our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff,

activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 17 August and 16 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents If you wish to participate in the survey please copy and paste the link below into your web browser: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/j_acegi_security_check?j_username=parent16876&j_password=Bro8105!

Footy Colours Day: As has been the tradition for many years Broken Hill High School participated in Footy Colours Day this year to raise money for the Fight Cancer Foundation.

We had fantastic participation from students and staff and raised $342.55, which almost doubled the money raised last year.

We had 7 students participate in the Best Dressed competition and they won a $10 Big W voucher.

A special mention goes to Jackson Page of Year 10 who graciously recognised the needs of other students and swapped his prize for chocolate.

Thank you to all staff and students who donated and participated on the day. - The PBL Team.

NSW Parliament Plein Air Art Prize

Students working at Keenan Lookout in the cold weather. Eilis Quinn and Lauren Schenk working in

the classroom. Selected Year 10 and 11 art students braved the cold and windy conditions to paint the view from the top of the Joe Keenan Lookout on Thursday, 3 September. Sydney artist Brigiat Maltese tutored the students in ‘en plein air’ painting – painting on the spot ‘in plain air’. Students painted their choice of views of Broken Hill from the lookout until lunchtime. Local MP, the Honourable Kevin Humphries, and the Barrier Daily Truth visited the students just before lunch. After lunch, the workshop moved back to the classroom to put the finishing touches on the artworks. Yr 11 student Tyler Brown was awarded the Telstra gift voucher for the best effort and artworks on the day by Ms Maltese. Lauren Schenk and Gracie Gribble were also recognised for their work. Caitlin Evans, Ebony Pascoe, Chloe Stenhouse, Finlay Moroney, Eilis Quinn, Kristi Walton, Lizzie Wilson, Phebe Whitelaw and Kaine Bower also participated in the workshop. The Plein Air Art Prize selects the top 6 artworks from workshops around the State to be exhibited in the NSW Parliament House during 2016. The art prize targets high school students and is sponsored by Telstra. Ms. Maltese was very impressed both by the artworks and the attitude of our students. ‘They have been so good and haven’t complained once.’ She told the students that they lived in a fantastic location and should take advantage of it.

The students’ en plein air artworks up on the art room display board.
